The Vex and the Witness are they friends or foes

Something interesting I was thinking about with the release of WQ, is what is the Vex's view on the Witness. Are they one of his servants or do they oppose him? In D1 we have the stranger tell us that the vex are so evil that they despise other evil. Flashing forward I feel like this means that are against the Witness and his goals, especially since they regularly fight his servants, ie the hive and taken. Additionally in D1 we learn from the book of sorrow that the vex (Quaria) order vex units to worship the hive worms, but never introduced them to their mind fluid. Of course in WQ we would learn that the Witness uses the worms like control chips for all his servants. They offer power for a price and keep them under his control. That being said we also have lore from BL which seems to suggest that the vex work for the Witness, as they do have ties to the pyramids and Clovis (under the influence of the Witness) uses vex mind fluid to create his Exos. We also know that the vex have seen their future and their demise and seek to change it, as well as become the last living being. Which based of WQ lore it seems likely that the Witness wishes to either wipe out all life in the universe or take all life/planets into his pocket universe in which he is a universe truth similar to the light and dark. So this would mean that the Vex have seen the Witness exterminate their species. Finally, we Also have lore from shadowkeep in which we learn that vex seem to follow the true darkness, which is why they infest the black garden and seem to be trying to take the place of the gardener, thereby giving the winnower something to continue the flower game with. In conclusion I suspect that vex know of the Witness, but do not follow him. Instead they follow the true darkness, itself. This could also mean that eventually, we could see vex allies help us fight against the Witness and his followers.

  • I thought the Vex were an anomaly that wasn't predictable by the Light or Dark, a simulation that slipped into reality. As far as I know we still don't know their whole purpose beyond terraforming worlds and time travel. The Vex we have seen I believe are like worker ants and we are yet to see a warrior variant frame, which means they could be vastly more powerful and dangerous. I don't know if any of this is true or what has or hasn't been retconned so please let me know if I missed something.

Friends until they aren't needed to kill things off. The Witness wants the end of all things, including itself it seems. It just hates existence because it's unpredictable and undecided.

      • The vex only have one goal : turn anything that isn't vex into vex, if not possible kill it. So yeah they won't get along with the witness

      • There was one group of vex that like Quria became too curious with knowledge unlike Quria though who is not seen as an enemy the Garden vex are and in D1 you could see the Garden vex fighting the other vex

[/quote] I thought that it was the other way round? The Vex's goal, as you say, is to be the only living thing left in existence. That sounds more like The Final Shape, which is what the Winnower liked about the Garden game, than being a means of continuing the game by taking the Gardener's place. As for Vex following the Darkness, that's only one particular group amongst them - the Sol Divisive, a collective that even other Vex don't really like. When we completely killed the Undying Mind, Osiris claimed that we changed the course of history and it resulted in all predicted futures from the Infinite Forest concluding with the Vex being destroyed by the Black Fleet.

          • Vex are neutral in all things, they seek to understand and convert all things knowable. A Final Shape in neutrality, without growth. The only purpose is preservation. They're friendly as long as you supply them with knowledge. Ironically, the Light has been restrictive to them while the Darkness has been given to them to understand but like a carrot on a string. The Vex are just tools either side can use. They leave things out in the open to be interacted with to study those interactions.

          • The Light and Dark saga is a Vex simulation, when it ends they will just restart it , and give Bungie a lore excuse to revamp D1 and sell it back to us

            • The Vex hate all things paracausal. Them and the Witness would definitely not get along.

            • It won’t be all the Vex, it will be just like Mithras with some Eliskni and Ciatal and some cabal. It will be Asher Mir and some Vex, not all. All allies together after we lose HARD in Lightfall. We are going to need all the allies.
