PVP is broken.

I am at loss for words how BAD PVP is right now... Titans go with an overshield behind a Citan's barricade, Yes! a shield behind a shield + life and they can shoot you. it is impossible to kill and I just run and wait for it to end. Hunters go Invisible 100% and I am shooting nonstop sometimes to just check if he is there. I was never a good PVP player (and never liked it because of how bad it already was) but right now it does seem like I will be unable to win anything if I don't go with Titan. PVP is about everyone being equal and making a difference with their abilities, you should listen to your PVP players and fix it.

  • The biggest issue with the PVP system is that they put any players together....this fundamentally ruins the experience for literally everyone. For the most skilled...its not a challenge. For the lower skill, it's too much of a challenge and you can't learn much when your just dead constantly...not to mention you will never win a straight up duel due to the gear disparity. The point of PVP is to have fun playing against players of a similar level...not putting a new player vs someone that has been farming on the same account since release. The "levels disabled" features is actually the biggest issue I can pinpoint. You disable levels but allow any type of gear... how does that seem relatively balanced for all players? Someone can have the best/most meta guns when others can't...that still represents a balance gap...at times a HUGE balance gap. The character classes are also imbalanced...thats a deeper issue with balance between PVE and PVP...prob never going to be solved. That is why most games go either PVE or PVP, trying to do both is just not possible without creating a separate system for each which means creating a second game essentially. It would be better to enable levels or at least use gear score, light level, and character classes to balance the teams. Until then, the mode remains just as bad as it was when there were hackers. Useless to install an anti-cheat when the mode is fundamentally broken.

Let's be completely honest. The problem isn't with Void 3.0, I think Destiny has a different set of PVP issues. Let's start with the fact that matchmaking doesn't exist. Not skill based or region based. I as a German player come into a match with people from China, Russia and much further. This means that the ping is absolutely bad. The players lagging around, you die or get shot at even though the player is not visually around the corner yet. Then I come as a bad player in rounds against players who only play PvP and how that turns out you can imagine. Then I ask myself since I play Destiny why is a radar active in PVP. Also does not belong in the PVP. Bungie should in my opinion first concentrate on the following things before they do something else. - Region matchmaking - Skill based matchmaking These two things alone would change so much in PVP. Of course, skill based matchmaking would also mean that it is no longer possible or very difficult for people who carry others. But nothing should be built on that either. The waiting times will be longer for the players who play at the top. But take Overwatch as an example. Imagine a Top500 player comes into a match against Gold players only so that the waiting time is not so long. And I'm really sorry for the people who play at the top and probably have a longer wait, but that's how it is when you're at the top. And I think many of the top players would talk differently or recognize other problems if they would not permanently slide over other teams. So something like Void 3.0 or something else doesn't make PVP bad. You can adapt against that. Just need to rethink the basics. Thanks for reading. So sorry about my english.

      • I’ll have to respectfully disagree with a long reply. 😅 Right now with Void 3.0 changes it feel like the classes are more built towards what they should be. Hunters going invisible and doing hit and run tactics and being very sneaky basturds. Do t mind how it is now since invisibility lasts less, very noticeable audio queue from where it’s happening, easier to spot with the colour change to the invisibility (from short to mid long ranges at least, impossible to see from long ranges which is scout/bow/sniper range anyway). Titans actually being tanks like they were supposed and soaking a lot of damage and helping others do the same. Like how the overshield only covers what health they had at the time so if they were half health, that all the over shield will cover and not be a full over shield. OEM was (imo) far worse but it was still manageable to play against. Warlocks, umm, well they can focus their fury into the grenades to make them crazy, still provide the healing to themselves and alll teammates, plus the Child of the old gods help restore all their abilities faster. Guess warlocks are supposed to be the support and assist masters. Could use more tuning on that front. While annoying right at the start, I’m loving the true distinctness now with Void 3.0 and it’s been a blast. While I’ve not had any issues learning going against it, I do see how the average and less player can be frustrated going against it. It’s a learning curve for sure. I “feel” that needs to classes and their abilities now will destroy the path of how Bungie seems to be finally taking classes down a distinct path (outside of supers) from each other (more so than before that’s for sure, it’s reinforced now) and I don’t want to see that changed to make everyone similar in PvP with nerfs. So how about we embrace the chaos till we see solar 3.0 and arc 3.0 and go from there!

        • Sounds like youre not a pvper from your own words. Overshield barricades are NOT an issue, neither is invis. Take it easy and let the sandbox settle a bit before you make bungie rear their nerf hammer, which they always over swing. This type of attack, with lack of experience is when the gameplay and customization becomes dull.

        •
PVP is about everyone being equal
Who told you that?
and making a difference with their abilities,
They are? Over shields, invis, that lil tether and stasis turret? Arc souls and such? Taking advantage of your subclass and get any better with it(throwing knives, over shields, etc.) is what I think Bungie wants?
you should listen to your PVP players and fix it.
They did. A lot said “less ability spam” and they listened, yet those complaints still fly. Not sayin that PvP is perfect or whatever. It’s got glaring problems but this last statement doesn’t add up with the rest you’ve said.

PVP is broken and the best thing you can do is express your frustration while avoiding the playlist. This is how my approach is and I used to stay in PVP. Bungie has proved time and time again that they have no idea on how to improve PVP and they aren’t willing to listen to players who want to help improve it. Listening to streamers isn’t the solution because they play at a different level than most nor is listening to players who only ask for nerfs so they can stop dealing with something they cannot find a way to outplay. The only players who should be listened to are the ones showing concerns for a problem and providing a solution or idea to help with it. The reason I say this is so that Crucible Labs and even one for PVE can be used as a introduction for changes via community and developer ideas. Let players test what you are testing before you put it in the game so you can have an accurate concept to use for implementation. Whatever data they are using isn’t working or it is working and they aren’t using it to make the changes necessary for the game overall improvement.

              • Some of ya'll never played halo and it shows constant invisibility is way too strong. Yes there are counters to it but not as effective as some of you get good 0.8-1.0 K/Ds think it is. With the way hunter movement is in this game with stompees and not breaking invisibility through sprinting just like how halo does which is made by bungie, is way too strong. Stop with the cap that it isn't, it's usually hunters who cap this hard thinking their whole kit isn't op ever since stompees got buffed a long time ago. Stack high ground and invis you get entitled people.

                    • Ive noticed the players that tell me to open my eyes or how easy invisibility is to counter are actually hunter mains running graviton forfeit with chaperone or main ingredient. Ive tried every possible way at countering invisibility, you guys wanna know whats the best way to truly counter it? The only way to counter invisibility is to use invisibility yourself by playing hunter. Who would’ve thought huh? You counter a busted ability with the same exact busted ability. So balanced huh? If you aren’t playing hunter right now, you aren’t going to go flawless unless you play using the same BS.

                      • Wow, if only somebody posted their reservations about invis hunters and void 3.0 2 months ago on these forums. Oh wait, I did, and I was told I was blind and bad at this game. Now all I see on reddit and the forums is how annoyingly strong void 3.0 (especially titans and hunters) are. Weird. I guess I'll just give you the advice the forumites gave me when I posted my own concerns with invis and void 3.0: "get good its easy to see. you must be bad. have you tried getting better". invis spam with fusions is far worse than the auto rifle meta. change my mind.

The easiest way I found to counter both is to listen to audio queues and practice passive prediction, unfortunately warlocks don’t have much to go for other than our little buddy that protects us in stationary combat and area control but of course in the pvp those cases are unusual in competitive play

Its easy to counter you litteraly just shoot it but you probably ran away or foolishly challenged it in an disadvantage. Nothing is impossible to counter people just don't want to build and wanna run around with a gun with no thought just play cod if thats all you amount to. You don't speak for everyone just the ones who fail and continue to fail at adapting. Warlocks cannot complain about invis when we have an exotic that outright negates it and wishender negates it as well. If you know you aren't good than thats a you issue not the game. Ask for advice not nerfs that won't change anything except how you will die next which is inevitable.
PVP is about everyone being equal
Um… I don’t know how to break it to you, but, uh, no. If you want fair starts, go play Halo. Destiny, from the literal day it came out, has never been focused on having a balanced and fair PvP. Oh, sure, they’ll sometimes try, but the one GENUINE attempt they made at balancing PvP - aka D2Y1 - almost killed the franchise for good. They’ve literally stated this before - PvP in Destiny is about taking your cool new loot into a player vs player environment and just messing around with it. It has, only once, EVER been about a fair and “equal” playing field. And it failed, miserably, because it no longer felt like Destiny. I get wanting PvP to be balanced. I get the same feeling of wanting to punch your monitor every time you get solo supered, or an invis shotgun hunter is crouching around a corner waiting for you. But if you actually think for one minute that PvP being “equal” is a priority for them? Or even, on their to-do list at Bungie? You need to wake up. Seriously. If you actually believe that, I’m sorry but you’re living in a fantasy world where you have your own vision for the game. And it isn’t the one we live in.

                        • The meta is less important than connection quality in the lobby. Bad connections you lose. Good connections you stomp. That’s why there’s literally no in between. You’re a god going positive or a dreg going negative. Until Bungie fixes its networking support you are having a giant side discussion about something that won’t make PvP better. Fix peer to peer and crossplay hit registration bs, then let’s talk matchmaking and meta.

They will literally never fix PvP in this game. They have zero dedicated pvp devs. They would rather you -blam!- than take the time to fix their horrible game.
