Weapon crafting is too pricey and time consuming, I will stick with random rolls

I will take random drops anytime over the cost of resources and the amount of time it takes to craft a weapon. Most of the weapons you can make are garbage archetype anyway. The only way to make crafting work is to remove random rolls all together and start from a basic model for every weapon type, the community would probably go bananas then. Also is anyone else frustrated that masterwork weapons dont drop orbs anymore? It seems like grinding is a waste anyway if bungie is going to keep vaulting/eliminating perks that we played hours for. Witch Queen looks great and has a good campaign but after completing that I am not going to be grinding for weapon crafting

  • I got wind that weapon crafting was going to be hell grindy and very costly. Turned out to be true. I can't be bothered with it at all and as far as I'm concerned it's a failure! Won't be jumping on this mouse wheel anytime soon. potential squandered AGAIN Bungo!

  • So weapon crafting was made out to be incredible and a huge improvement to the game with a big base in helping players get the god roll they were looking for, but in reality you first need to get multiple Red Bordered weapon from the random drops, some of which (that are literally required for a quest) have a super low drop rate in general with a <1% drop rate for red border variants. Then you need to grind out kills with the red bordered weapon and extract the essence, then after that you get to unlock the pattern and may craft it for not too much cost for literally making a weapon that you had already gotten multiple copies of in a better roll. Then you grind kills again to level it up to unlock the good perks and need to grind out more red bordered weapons to get the materials to recraft the weapon with better perks and then you can use the gun again in higher tier gameplay. The amount of grind involved for these weapons is just not worth it but it's required to get through quests and I am willing to bet that they will drip-feed new guns with the crafting system each season without letting us craft raid loot or just normal world drops without a paywall like Armor Synthesis.

    • When I read posts like this a week or so after a content drop, I just shake my head. Bungie said that your were going to be able to INVEST in your weapon to earn your chosen roll. The fact you didn’t get it the first week doesn’t mean the system is broken.

      • Glad i am not alone on this. Absolutely not interested in this crafting system. Way too grindy and dull. It makes sense to some degree that it's grindy since it's a one and done thing but my biggest issue is that crafted weapons feel like "whatever" to me when i see them. A huge part about MMO's is the part to feel unique and special. Getting a great roll exactly feeds that, you feel special and unique. As cringe as that sounds and probably is, you all know its like that. Now with crafting, literally every Larry runs around with the exact same roll that he "crafted" by sitting at shuro-chi checkpoint shooting thralls for 12 hours. Just sooo undesirable to me. I haven't crafted a single weapon to actually use yet, just the ones for the exotic glaive steps and insta dismantled the weapons after. I already spent ~ 40 hours grinding the world loot pool for a cantata and funnelweb tho. Getting a roll of those is desirable.

      • It's done deliberately knowing the community will ask for adjustments. The problem is, anyone can explain something to Bungie that a 5-year-old could understand, but Bungie somehow, in some weird way whatever was said to them will translate to do anything other than what was actually said to them. That's what you are dealing with when it comes to Bungie.

        • Yeah I haven't even bothered with it not even for the quest I looked at one weapon and saw what I needed to so to change the perks and frankly I can't be bothered. I'd rather just let the roll drop anyway and not have to use a -blam!- version of the weapon to get the perk to then level it up again and use other weapons to get the materials to change the perks. No it's pointless when I can just play and get the roll I want anyway.

        • My only gripe is needing to have a weapon drop with the resonance tuning in order to grab the pattern. It especially sucks when you need it for the Wellspring weapons, since those have a chance to drop from the boss. If these drops were more common I’d have more interest. ~And no, I don’t mean increased loot drops. Just increased chance for the resonance tuning~

        • Did you assume you would be able to craft all of your exact god roll weapons in a single week? The answer is no. Weapon crafting is a system designed to get you the exact rolls of weapons you want over time with the ability. Think of Armor 2.0 when it first came out, people were complaining about the high cost of armor and the limited amount of Ascendant Shards you could obtain, but now, people are literally swimming in Ascendant Shards because they are easy to get when you are leveled up for endgame content which doesn't happen in the first week of a season. I suspect the vast majority of players will stick to random rolled weapons for the first few weeks of this season, then get into farming materials to invest into Weapon crafting for the next couple months.

          • I gave up as soon as I saw how rare they made Ascendant Alloys. A material you need 2 of for each new weapon you craft and there are 50 of them! God forbid you want to test out the enhanced traits then you'll need way more. This is not even including the 3 you need for the exotic Osteo Striga weapons and probably each new exotic weapon moving forward. I would literally have to give up my career and family to farm these dam things. 😂 Somethings got to give here bungie this is completely unobtainable for the majority of your player base. People are already becoming dejected from the impossible grind you ask of us. We need quests or activities that guarantee some each week. Please!

I think it's more of a measure between: Player preference/behaviour on RNG tolerance. vs. Player preference/behaviour on perceived "crafting". (Being able to offset RNG) Kind of looks like Bungie is experimenting on this one, which I think is a good sign. Either way, both are time sinks in their own way, which is probably by design anyways. So that means it's working, if players are playing in the meantime. For how long? That depends on the person. Some folks like instant gratification, which the game sometimes does. Others like delayed gratification, the game also has this. As far as I can see, the game has means to try to appeal to a variety of players. Not everyone will be checked off on that list. But it's still a fun game none the less. I think players need to come to an understanding that when Bungie is setting up an expectation, or even lack of one, it's best for us to take note of that (realistically speaking) or else we just face disappointment due to our self perceived expectations not lining up, let alone being realistic as well. That last part kind of depends on where the state of the game is at, and maturity of the player, of course. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have no desire to use the crafting system as is. I’m hoping the raid weapons will give me some inspiration to use it, but leveling guns, collecting materials, prices to craft all literally are telling me to not bother before I even start. I’d rather wait until it drops in my lap randomly, honestly probably faster than leveling guns “as intended” (i.e. doing actual activities, not Shuro Chi or the other billion farm spots). It doesn’t say much when the player base has more hope for a 1/several hundreds shot over a direct path to the same target. Edit: Also the fact I have to use a 3 of rare material for a catalyst of a gun (Striga) really put me off. Might never use catalysts until I’m swimming in materials if that’s the case. Should’ve been 1 or free. No need to put such a barrier for a pre-order Exotic.

              • Actually I don’t find attuning weapons that time consuming. I went to the suro chi check point and blasted thru 15 attunements and patterns in under 20 minutes. My only gripe tbh is the Material caps. I’m sure they will adjust them

              • So Bungie did exactly what everyone suspected. Bungie made it a grind and a full time job to do? Figured. And people still play this game. Guess they like abusive relationships.

              • Truthfully I haven’t felt the MW orb changes. Annoying for sure but those orbs barely did anything for super regen times, and I’m honestly okay with you having to put in a little more work to become charged with light, not that it isn’t piss easy still.

                • I’m still on the second campaign mission. I simply have no desire to play anymore, for many of the reasons given here, and a few others. Whenever I think about it, I dread the grind rather than anticipate the fun. It sucks. I loved this game, but it’s just become more repetitive with ever season, even with the changes. And yeah, I know, “take a break”, but I just did for the entirety of last season and it’s still a chore to even log in. I just wish Bungie would introduce story or mechanics that I’m genuinely excited about rather than thinking “oh great, more of this or that”.

Other than well spring drop rates and the inability to specifically target other weapon's dsr versions in order to be able to craft in the first place, Bungie has set a good foundation for a weapon crafting system. They need to remove or severely increase the cap on materials and they need to maybe slightly reduce the amount of neutral element required for things. But, other than that, this is solid. People shouldn't be expecting to craft every weapon's god roll in week 1 of the season.

                • The thing that nobody seems to consider is that every season there will likely be more new weapons that can be crafted. Once the next season starts you will want to start working on crafting the new weapons from that season, not finishing up ones from prior seasons. Hopefully when more weapons are able to be crafted they will loosen up the crafting economy a bit so we can actually make progress on weapons before they are a year old.

                  • I tried getting 3 Father’s sin snipers from the Wellspring event yesterday. I ran like 10 of them. It dropped 2 and 1 had a red line around it. You need 3 to get the schematic. And then there still are the other weapons from the event. Do we really need to run 500 of these to maybe get all the schematics if we are lucky?
