Dear Bungie,
I absolutely love the games that you has created over the past three decades. My favorites are Pathways Into Darkness, Marathon, and Halo. The stories you have woven together have fascinated me and created a beautiful gaming experience during my life. I am truly blessed to have been able to experience these stories.
Me and my friends were SO excited to play Destiny 2 when we found out about its crossplay functionality - me personally as a PC player and my friends as Playstation players. We are brand new players with no prior history of playing Destiny (I wasn't able to play Destiny 1, as it wasn't available on PC. But that's okay.)
Imagine our disappointment when we finished the tutorial together and found out the year 1 base game content (perhaps the most important for new players like us), which includes the Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind, were removed and vaulted into the DCV. And now, Forsaken as well is being vaulted.
I am totally okay with extra, non-story content (like skins, weapons, armor, non-story miniquests, etc.) being removed as the game progresses. That makes sense and I have no problem with that. What should never, ever happen to a video game is critical story quests being removed and vaulted. It alienates new players and causes great confusion (we spent hours trying to figure out what happened after finishing the tutorial).
We looked everywhere to see if we could access the content before we even knew about the DCV. We checked the terminal next to the Postmaster, but it was almost completely empty. Amanda in the hanger no longer had the quests available from her. Me and my friends agreed that we were even willing to spend money to play the base game quests, but that isn't even possible anymore.
We humbly and sincerely request that this critical story content become available again for new players like us.
We want to give you our money! Seriously! We are willing to spend a lot of money to be able to play the base game quests and the Forsaken DLC. Please bring it back for us. Do it for a lifelong fan of Bungie and the stories you have crafted. Even though this was a major disappointment, I still believe in you.
Sincerely,
A major Bungie fan
Edit: I just posted a comment below asking for help getting caught up. If anyone has some time to help me and my friends out, it would be most appreciated :)

Not going to happen. As a new player, unfortunately, you lack the context to understand why this was necessary. 1. Destiny 2 uses P2P (peer-to-peer) networking as part of its game design. Which means that there are no dedicated servers to store in-game objects on. All those things have to loaded onto your local hardware (PC or console) and its onboard RAM. 2. This game still has to run on base ps4 and Xb1, because they are still a substantial part of this game's market. Vanilla Destiny 2 was designed to push these machines pretty hard, but they were considered underpowered even by 2013 standards....and now they are nearly 10 years old. So they are ANCIENT by 2022 standards. 3. This game was designed to be played for 3 years, and then abandoned for Destiny 3. Because that was what Activision was demanding from Bungie when they were still partners. So this game was NOT designed to run on last-gen hardware, while holding both Destiny 2 AND Destiny "3" (what we're basically playing now) at the same time. So (until PS5 and XBS X/S become enough of the market to allow Bungie to drop support for PS4 and XB1, the only option was to either keep everything....and the game goes dead waiting for "Destiny 3" to be made.... ....or we allowed them to rotate Destiny 2 content out of the game as they rotate new "Destiny 3" content in. If they hadn't done this, Bungie would have run into the same problem with Destiny 2 that CDPR ran into (and is still trying to find their way out of ) with Cyberpunk 2077. A game that looks beautiful if you have a high-end gaming PC. But it ran and played like garbage on PS4 and XB1. Only problem was that a MAJOR part of their market was on those last gen machines.

"Curse of Osiris, Warmind" Dude, you're not just "not missing out on much" there, you're having a better experience not needing to play those.

Okay, so it looks like me and my friends won't be able to play these quests (at least for now. I'm still hoping for a miracle in the future. It's possible! They even said it might not be permanent... fingers crossed) Can you all help me and my friends get caught up story wise? Are there any good articles, videos, etc. that can help us out? I want to have the proper story context to understand the newer expansions before I consider spending money on them. Any help would be appreciated :) Thanks

3 RepliesThe reason for the dcv is because d2's engine is not the best or most optimized. So in order to optimize the game, the compromise was bungie getting rid of older campaigns and use that space for the newer expansions. So Beyond Light replaced Red War, Witch Queen replaced Forsaken, etc. Where Bungie failed in my opinion was by not providing some kind of cutscene or flashback explaining what happened previously to all players that never got to experience those expansions. Unless a miracle happens, I don't expect those expansions to return. Most likely the pattern will continue with newer expansions replacing older ones, and some older D1 content returning to fill up the rest of the available space.
