So I made a previous topic about this, and asked different members of the Lore Community what their thoughts were about this “Witness” that everyone’s been talking about. Some said that the Witness was the Darkness itself, and the Winnower. Other said that the Witness is more of a servant to the Darkness. So I went into the Witch Queen campaign to review this myself, and found this: WARNING: WITCH QUEEN SPOILERS BELOW! Do not open unless you have done the campaign. [spoiler]During the mission known as The Mirror in The Witch Queen campaign, you delve deep into a place where Savathûn’s memories manifest as a physical event that you are able see. You then come to an Alter that reveals a memory from Savathûn’s mind. And there is one part of that memory where she says the following: [quote]I stand before a being with a thousand names. It whispers one: the Witness. Remember it. Remember that name. It is not Darkness, but something that wears it like a cloak. It gives Darkness a wicked shape. I refuse to be its servant.[/quote] [/spoiler] Savathûn says it herself here that the Witness is not Darkness. But it does enact its will. (There’s most likely more that was said on this subject, I just don’t currently have the quotes with me) Based on what I see here, this shows that the Witness is a servant of the thing we only know as “Darkness” or, (if they’re the same being as mentioned in the Unveiling Lore Book), the Winnower. We do need to keep in mind however, that this was the god of cunning, and deceit that spoke this. But in the meantime, this shows that the Witness isn’t the Darkness, and I have yet to see anything that says otherwise. [b]Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, as I am open to another possibility if there’s evidence for it.[/b]
