Dead Cliffs is Hot Garbage

Yes, we are low on PvP maps. I get that some were sent to the DCV maybe for updates for the new sandbox changes. Maybe they went away because their host planets left with the arrival of Beyond Light. That doesn't really fit though because Wormhaven and Pacifica are hanging around for Titan, and Radient Cliffs/Altar of Flames for Mercury. A lot of the maps just feel to small for how fast we are. Personally, I don't mind the Titan maps. The previously mentioned Mercury maps should have been Thanos snapped when the darkness ate their planet. However, none of those maps are as problematic as Dead Cliffs. The map was built for 4v4 and slower movement. Those were the dark times of the sandbox, that's been acknowledged, moving on. One thing that maybe I haven't noticed to well is that spawn traps are somewhat difficult to do. High level players will still find a way to do so when it comes to people who haven't invested as many hours into the game. But none are as easy to pull off as on Dead Cliffs. I have nothing good to say about this map. We could easily have kept some other maps, like the mars ones, and yeeted this one into the nearest sun. The mars maps would still have the same sandbox issues, but at least they were more enjoyable. I'm not complaining about losing. I'm not a great PvPer by any means. But nothing in the crucible is as bad as Dead Cliffs. I think its called Dead Cliffs because each time I play it, I feel myself dying more and more. There are no suggestions I can think to offer to improve this map aside from deleting it. I appreciate that the team who made this, spent that effort to, but its time should have come when Forsaken dropped. I think I would rather have shatter dive at its peak than have to play on Dead Cliffs again. I would almost rather have the Vanilla D2 Sandbox back than have to play on that map again. Just needed to vent into the void. Hope some change can fix this map.

  • The amount of maps/new maps in a game of this magnitude is pathetic, laughable even.

  • This and alter of flame need to go away from 6v6.

  • The maps that left weren't for sandbox changes, it was the game engine update for Beyond Light. They had to decide what maps to put resources into and update for the then-coming expansion. And then never touched another map until WQ I suppose.

Everyone needs to know that the key to Dead Cliffs is holding zone C. If you spawn at A first your main objective is to try to get C. Its probably the only map where zone C is basically the most important zone. After you get C, then you get B. Its basically a game of trying to put or keep the other team at zone A. When people play it like this its actually a very interesting map to play. And it should definitely stay because its a map where its important to know how to play the map. Which a lot of people don't bother doing with almost any map let alone dead cliffs. Not only that but at one time it was a universally hated map but it got a lot better due to them working on it (Or at least I think they did something to it, it might just be that I eventually learned not to stand in the big room and wonder why I kept getting spawn killed, probably a combo of both) So its really kind of a map about overcoming adversity because a lot of people thought it would be impossible to fix. A lot of people still think its impossible to play, but it really isn't at all.

    • You either spawn at C or you lose the game

    • I hate that map, I quit every time it comes up and will in perpetuity. That and Burnout. Both maps were created for small team slayer and Bungie's so lazy, they use it across all game modes. It's not difficult to spawn trap on either map ... on Dead Cliffs, you just have to control B and C; on Burnout, you just have to control A and C. Having either map in Control is oppressive but like you said, we're down to only a few maps because Bungie hasn't created any in years.

    • Oh that map is awful. Been saying that the spawn trap rate on that map is insane, and that’s been since the awful Y1, as it was just as bad then. Literally cannot stand that map in rotation, as it’s even more painfully obvious when someone over-reaches. That map snowballs so bad, so quickly. Only other map that’s near that level is cauldron.

    • I'll have to chime in on this. Dead Cliffs is the stupidest map ever made for Destiny, and possibly any PvP game I ever played. Almost every 6v6 match I was ever in, ended with one team getting spawn trapped behind zone "A". It was laughable. This lame map couldn't even handle Rumble. I remember getting spawn killed around that same area in a damn Rumble match. Seriously, if your POS map can't even find reasonable spawn points with only 6 freaking players on it, then it's a bad design.

    • I recall Bungie removing Dead Cliffs for a while (few months) & fixing it Nothing changed There’s now a tree you can get to & snipe back into the map But, & this is a big bold claim It’s still better than Anomaly, Twilight Gap & Cauldron Especially in 3’s (Elim, Survival, Comp) Haven’t played Trials for 4 months, so wouldn’t know where/how the flag placement affects the map

    • Agreed. And it’s such a shame, dead cliffs is a great map. But it has literally the worst spawns. Even after they removed it to “re evaluate the spawn locations”.

      • They could've expanded the map between C to A and fill in the spot where theres just a death drop and open space, likewise between C to B. Just fill it in with corridors, buildings or walkable open space with a ground layer.

      • It's the same story as Vostok only two zones matter. C and B. You hold them and frag and it's an easy dub. Vostok was the same. Hold A and C and it's a dub. Map designs are bad sure. But players who don't challenge and push together will also lose. It's funny the only time I've lost games is when it's teams I'm on where the players are trying to 1 v 3 all the time.
