SPOILERS!!!!! Read farther at your own risk. The answer is yes. When Shin Malphur killed Dredgen Yor, he defeated the Darkness....but he also realized that the presence of the Darkness made his powers of the LIght (Golden Gun...first super) more powerful. Like a whetstone can be used to sharpen a blade. So Shin Malphur is actually a Dredgen in the Shadows of Yor. More over The Shadows of Yor and Gambit are an elaborate rouse. The Shadows of Yor were not created to promote the Darkness for the sake of doing evil things and gaining power. They are not the Destiny equivalent of the Sith. It was created to use the Darkness to drive the evolution of power and make the Light grow stronger, so that Lightbearers would be in a better position to take on followers of the Darkness (Its a form of Sword Logic for the Light). But its also set up to be a mouse trap for those----like the orginal Dredgen Yor----who cannot resist the temptation of the Darkness and fall to corruption. Gambit is there to expose those individuals....and Shin Malphur is the "bogeyman" that is there to keep people from straying into corruption.....or to cull those who do. I believe that Ikora Rey is aware of this as well. Which is why she and Zavala tolerate Drifter's presence in the Tower, and allow Gambit...and the occasional Guardian losses it creates. As well as tolerating Guardians dabbling in Stasis and Darkness. She alluded to this when Lakshmi-2 was scolding her about the Vanguard dabbling in Darkness and that they'd lost their way, but Ikora replied, "Just because you don't see the sheers, doesn't mean that I'm not pruning." I believe that she is using Drifter, Gambit....an the enforcement arm of The Praxic Order to achieve the same goal.

    • <Shin Malphur saw that Yor was a man corrupted by Darkness, but also saw that Darkness could be wielded without corruption. He started the Shadows of Yor with a few others in a grand ploy to draw out those who'd go beyond balance and into Darkness. Callum Sol died drawing out those who believed in Darkness alone, those who were then extinguished. Nowadays, only Shin (AKA Dredgen Vale) and the OG Shadows of Yor still live, satisfied that enough people got their message. Now we technically do their work. The Praxic Order would like to target every Dark-user, but are ordered to only go after those who fall off the deep end. People are seeing that the power of Darkness is a tool like the Light. And it can be wielded against its God.>

    • The Shadows were, to the outside world, an organization started by a group who wanted to use the darkness without being corrupted like iYor was. Shin Malphur and his friends went undercover as Dredgens and started the Shadows of Yor to draw out the potential bad apples. Even Drifter was in on the op, using Gambit as a way to seek out whoever may be “worthy” of joining the Shadows. Eventually, Shin killed all the Shadows from within and staged the death of Dredgen Bane(Callum Sol) to discourage the ones they haven’t already killed.
