To the “You paid for a license” crowd

Content Vaulting is Theft of Content, period. Just because Bungie changes the Terms of Service to justify theft and to protect them from their community suing them, reporting them to the Better Business bureau etc. doesn’t make it NOT theft. The definition of Theft doesn’t change just cause the TOS was changed to justify the theft. Theft is Theft regardless of how you spin it, justify it etc.

The whole point of a live service game is that it changes. Content comes and goes.

  •
theft /THeft/ noun the action or crime of stealing

Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanently
Based on the actual definitions of theft (nice job making a post on theft without even defining theft BTW), if we consented to the possibility of content being taken away (like in some sort of “user agreement” that all players need to sign), it wouldn’t be theft, would it. Not to mention that they set up some sort of procedure in which the missing content is “vaulted” with the possibility of returning in the future. Either way I don’t give a -blam!-, go try and sue them or something if you think it’s so wrong. Let us know how that goes for you

The terms of service were neither changed to include the clause for that reason nor irregular. Every online "game as a service" EULA has a clause informing you that content and services can be changed or withdrawn at any time. Also, it is in fact not theft because you agreed to allow it to be taken. Your consent inherently invalidates any claim that it was "stolen." Furthermore, something can't be stolen from you when you never owned it to begin with. If you hate it that much, go play an offline single player game instead.

        • Can't steal something that you own. Bungie OWNS the IP of Destiny and Destiny 2. You and the Rest of Us OWN Nothing. Every Game has a TOS. Every Publisher and Dev Studio OWN what's called an Intellectual Property to said Game or Franchise. Read the TOS from Start to Finish then decide if you Agree, because if you click "Agree", no Lawyer will touch it.

          • There’s no ground to stand on here if your trying to make a legal argument. An ethical argument could be made, however.

          • Bungie owns the content, not us, ergo, from a legal standpoint it is NOT theft. You can't expand a game infinitely, and the older locations are useless to the current storyline anyways. I miss the old raids as much as the next guy, but he sheer size of of the data necessary to keep everything you are whining about, and expanding on top of that would require more space on a console then can be supported. And don't come at me with the whole external HD argument, since not all platforms support that.

          • There is room for debate on weather content vaulting is a garbage practice, there is not room for debate on its legality

          • This is basically 8th grader lawyer logic. You have never owned the content. The TOS didn’t just change out of nowhere it’s been like that forever. And it’s not just bungie that has it. Almost every game does. Have you ever actually read the ToS? Obv not and I don’t blame you. 99.9% of us haven’t. But with that said you also shouldn’t be acting like you have read it and understand it. Because you’ve proven you haven’t. That doesnt mean I like content vaulting. I think it’s stupid and just another sign that Bungie really really doesn’t give two shits about anyone outside of ceos and investors. They are just hoping screaming about woke topics is enough to blind people from it. But legally they have done nothing wrong. No theft has taken place.

          • “Theft” is defined as “the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it.” The content belongs to Bungie. They are the rightful owners of the content. It’s not “theft” because you don’t own any of the content.

          • Some games shut down servers rendering most the game unplayable. Games are no longer a disc or cartridge and you own it as long as you have a platform that plays said disc or cartridge.

          • TOS has always been like that….for pretty much every video game with dlcs. They can do whatever they want with their game, and you gave them permission to do that when you blindly accepted the terms and services.

          • TOS was never changed to allow for it, the practise of "access to content may be removed at any time" is industry standard, predates Destiny even. Totally understand why you arent happy about it but you're barking up the wrong tree here.

Does this mean you're leaving us or going to keep supporting the game? It sucks that content gets removed, but if it makes the game run better? I'm fine with it. They are removing content that's 2 years old that I've already played the crap out of? I'm fine with it.
