Apparently Bungie has been automatically banning people more recently without as much as a warning
for using 3rd party task mangers. Programs such as Process Hacker and Process Monitor will result in a quick ban if it sees that its open despite not doing anything wrong. I've been playing since release (ps4 then pc) with no problems on my account or prior warnings and got auto banned
within less then 30 min without as much as a warning.

If you look at my account Destiny 2 is the only game with a vac or game ban since 2014 when I created my account. Which is a clear indication of no prior bad behavior.

Apparently I'm not alone there are a few reddit complaints with similar cases. Even the developers of Process Hacker (which is what I had in my case) stated they use something called ObRegisterCallbacks function provided in Windows since 2007. This is a kernel level feature(part of the Windows Driver Kit) that limits what they can do with anticheat systems so therefore there should be no problems. They also claim it works with eac, battleye etc.
I personally can confirm other games warn you about having it running and will prevent you from playing. However Bungie is the only company I have seen that outright bans you.

As you can see Fortnite will prevent you from playing as long as Process Hacker is open.

Prior to being banned I was looking at their policies and game compatibility as I was making a video with obs and wanted to ensure I was using the proper settings to not interfere with their anticheat. One of the things they state is they do a lengthy review process before banning a player. In this case this is completely false as this was done at 1-2am and within 30 min of game time. I've been running process hacker for a few years as well and it's never once complained about it. However, normally it isn't running. Although recently made the mistake of setting process hacker to auto start on pc startup. Unfortunately, I was unpleasantly surprised to see a quick ban for a game that I have never been punished or warned in the past.
Technically process hacker has a kernel driver, but it was not enabled and nor was I doing anything that could have attached or done anything to hook into the destiny process. Simply behaving as nothing more then a fancier task ma-blam!-. Also if you look at the developer link above there is a youtube video of another player triggering an auto ban by simply having it open which is exactly what happened.

This part on the "How to Not Get Banned or Restricted" did catch my attention though, but simply having a more advanced task ma-blam!- running shouldn't be considered runtime analysis. If that's the case then multiple security products should also result in a ban. In the past I've used various security products such as Comodo Internet Security, WinPatrol and Spybot Search & Destroy. All of these products have more advanced host intrusion prevention features and tend to do regular popups on any system changes such as registry entries changing, processes started etc.
https://processhacker.sourceforge.io/
If you go to the process hacker main page it does say it debugs software, but further research on their forums indicate it requires you to install a 3rd party product as the default debugger.
Other features it does have are detailing what processes are run by what user, processes creating network connections etc. Having more control over whats on ones system shouldn't trigger an
auto ban by an anticheat system.
A more responsible and fair way would be to warn the user that an incompatible product was found and you cant play until it is removed or closed. You can't expect us to know everything that Bungie's extremely aggressive anticheat dislikes. Especially when they fail to regularly update their help section.
A note to Bungie: I agree that cheaters are a huge problem in your game especially with crucible, but the way you handled banning my account was extremely poor, unprofessional and harms legitimate players at best. This was a clear failure of poor communication with your users over what is considered against your ToS. A simple warning or other proper ways of communicating to inform users of incompatibility would have been sufficient and stopped users from being banned by products you didn't agree with.
This would have allowed the user to make a choice if having system admin tools was a worthwhile trade off to play a game they enjoy. Respecting the users should always be the best course of action. The only thing I can say is thank you for showing that you don't respect me as a loyal player who enjoyed the Destiny universe.
edit: Thanks to everyone who supported me! My goal here was to create a topic and bring awareness and constructive discussions regarding these tools from some of the more technical people or those who felt they may have been wrongly punished as myself. If anything I'm glad some people spoke up and voiced their opinions. :)
As of 1/24/2022 got a ban removed alert in Steam. Disappointed it took them this long and they let automation handle the ban/appeal response. So for the trolls here jokes on you I guess. ;) :P Anyway problem solved.

4 RepliesGood. No need for a warning, just get them out of here!
-
Get banned lol
-
12 RepliesTL;DR: Respect my right to break your terms of service, and it’s your fault I didn’t read through them.
-
If it’s got hacker in the name , I don’t blame them.
-
Actually... you were warned. You just thought wrong.
-
1 Replywhat if i use my left hand instead of my right?
-
3 RepliesI have the same problem too. Just a week ago, I also got banned for process hacker. Appealing against the ban in this case simply does not work. According to my observations, the problem has been relevant for 2+ years and no one does anything about it, everyone just doesn't give a damn.
-
2 RepliesMaybe if you read the games terms and conditions or Eula. Bungie has said from day one... no programming tools. That means debugger programs. Also why did you think a program with "hacker" in it could be a legitimate tool. You do know why that program was created... and it was not for good reasons.

2 RepliesI may be a luddite when it comes to PC gaming and whatnot, but "Process Hacker" sounds to me like it'd be a huge no-no. In any case, this is why I will be keeping my Destiny gaming purely on console. Make of that what you will 🤷♂️
-
Reminds me of when people were getting banned for things like steam and discord overlays
-
So for next time, make sure to disable it..
-
Wow…. Common sense really failed you huh?
-
6 RepliesI have no sympathy for cheaters, why use thirth party software that give you an advantage. Then you are cheating yourself and are NOT gut.
-
Whatever
-
5 RepliesIf it was a mistake you’ll be unbanned. If it wasn’t you won’t be.
-
41 RepliesShould have stuck with the normal task manager 🤷♂️
-
Meanwhile I play 2 cheaters today lmao

This forum is unable to assist with appeals of restrictions or bans. There is a process in place for you to appeal your ban or restriction. The contact form is Here Please note that there is no guarantee for a response, nor is there a guarantee that your ban or restriction will be overturned.
Bungie issues the following they are all different. Suspensions are 30-60 mins This is for leaving matches Restrictions are 2 weeks - 2 months and the 2 months are repeatable. This is for an unstable connection. Ban is permanent which means forever and will not be removed. These are for cheating and may include any of the following. Having cheat programs for a game open also includes trainers. Macros trying to avoid AFK detection. Programming tools that inject code. Any form of network accelerator for manipulating a network, win trading, ghost lobbies, and account recoveries is just some of the more common.

Now go enjoy one of those other games that are okay with whatever software you use while you play.

1 ReplyYou can appeal but it won’t do any good. The whole system is pathetic
-
2 RepliesWhy do you need Procesd Hacker and Monitor running while playing Destiny?
