O used to play destiny 2 on Xbox at launch, then got a gaming PC a few years ago and switched to that when cross safe became a thing, no issues. It's been a few years since I played Xbox, so I gave it to my son. Recently I got a series s and made myself a new Xbox account so he and I can play together and now I'd like to change my cross save Xbox account to my new one.
The issue I'm encountering though is that, even though I have my steam account linked and have played on that one exclusively for the last number of years, on the cross save sure when I go to change it shows no characters on my steam account, just my old Xbox account.
I'm afraid to unlink my Xbox one now in case I lose my game on steam. Steam does still work and it shows my progress and all off the expensive I've purchased for the game in steam.
Not sure how to go about doing this and don't want to get stuck waiting 90 days to pay again if I screw it up.

4 RepliesEdited by ADragonWithin: 12/5/2021 2:58:08 PMThere are two issues you'll run into: The first one is that if you disable Cross-Save, you will lose access to your currently Cross-Saved Xbox save data. You have Cross-Save enabled with your Xbox save data as your Active save data; your Xbox save data will forever be your Xbox save data. The only reason you have access to it right now on Steam is because of Cross-Save. So, as you guessed in your post, if you disable Cross-Save, those characters will no longer be available on Steam. Your Steam license purchases will still be available, though. The second issue you'll run into is that if you disable Cross-Save, you'll have to wait 90 days before you can reenable it. With the above being said, your best course of action would be to simply create an XBL ID (a Microsoft Account for Xbox) for your son. That way, your son has his own account and you can keep yours and leave Cross-Save enabled. This will allow you both to play together. There is no reason for you to give your son your Xbox account. License sharing can be enabled from your Xbox account to give your son access to all licensed content you own on that Xbox.

5 RepliesRegardless you will still have to do the 90 days if you unlink.
PLEASE NOTE If players disable their Cross-Save for any reason they will have to wait out the 90-day lockout before they can enable Cross-Save again. There are no exceptions to this policy.
As to your other issue I am unable to advise with this.
