Why doesn’t xbox one and ps4 have a field of view slider? Last gen consoles are at a huge disadvantage for so many reasons including this, the screen is so zoomed in and guns block out a lot of whats going on. I hope one day bungie adds a fov slider to the settings.

I mean there are advantages to the lower fov though, for example, you will have a higher zoom on your weapons due to the lower field of view

8 RepliesEdited by LocoToopa: 12/5/2021 7:51:16 PMWitch queen shouldn't even be available for last gen. Let's bring this game up to modern standards 👍 I would categorise those with last gen in the same bracket as xurners.

Because the system is from 2013. If you were asking about One X/ PS4 Pro then MAYBE

1 ReplyAs someone who still unfortunately plays on an old/previous gen console, I admit it would be nice to at least not have the FoV disadvantage, but I've come to grips with the fact that the hardware simply isn't strong enough for Destiny's engine to make it so. Mini-rant/explanation down below:
The consoles are 4-8 years old (depending on if you got a "mid-gen" upgrade like the ps4 pro or xbox one x) at this point, and are slowly being phased out, giving devs less and less reasons to truly tune their creations based on them. The best thing people like us can do is finally upgrade (though I know the pandemic & scalpers have made this a pain over the past year), or play to our best despite having inferior hardware. Realistically, I'd expect 1 or 2 years more until XB1/PS4 lose any support aside from general fixes/patches in gaming as a whole, games that are nearly complete that were initially targeted at those platforms already, and a few indie/fringe games that aren't particularly demanding on CPU/GPU. And though this may just be my anecdotal experience, skill, strategy, experience, and what you do with those are still more important in succeeding despite having either 1/2 or 1/4 of the frames, and a potentially nearly 1/2 the field of vison. (I think Destiny's default FoV is around 70, with 120 being the maximum.) The only truly egregious things to me are instances where quite literally nothing other than frame rate make one's character perform better, like how 1000 Voices used to do stupidly high damage the higher your frames were, or how Spectral Blades and Fist of Havoc actually lunge further with their melee attacks in Super to a very noticeable degree. But even then, I acknowledge it's out of my control, and I'll have to deal with it or fail. And in the case of the latter, it's something that has very little impact on any given match as a whole, especially after this Tuesday where they'll be on longer cooldowns.
Apologies if that any of that came off as condescending, but I think this is simply reality.

“Truth is a Funny Thing.” Sorry Guardian but the Truth of the matter is Old Gen Console’s are fixing to be left behind. So spending resources on old tech really isn’t something Bungie wants to do. If they even can. We don’t even know if the old Gen could support it. Don’t believe me? See D1’s Rise of Iron. Bungie stopped supporting 360 and PS3 because the tech couldn’t support the DLC. The same thing is already happening in D2 in the DCV Destiny Content Vault. This is probably just a bandaid until Next Gen Consoles become readily available. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if LightFall is Next Gen Only. History tends to repeat itself. Not trying to crush your idea. Just giving you the reality of the situation.

6 RepliesDivision 2, Outriders, Halo Infinite, and more all manage to add FOV sliders on (effectively) current gen consoles. I don't buy this wasn't possible only that they choose not to. Just like Saved Loadouts, Saved Transmogs, Vault space, Inventory space Blue engram Auto-dismantle, etc, etc, etc. They choose not to develop these.
-
14 RepliesThey might not be able to handle it. FOV can really effect your FPS. I don’t know for sure. Just a guess.
-
26 RepliesWe need to stop catering to last gen ASAP . Witchqueen an after SHOULDN'T be on last gen .
-
FOV all around!!
-
6 RepliesHardware limitations, they could probably up the FOV but would sacrifice either frames or resolution. Frames can't go down because 30FPS is already rock bottom and downing the res to 720p will look awful / hard to see distant targets

2 RepliesEdited by Alkanphell: 12/4/2021 10:51:10 PMWhile I do agree with the sentiment, we need to move on(tech wise). Just like when ps3 was phased out of d1. I understand not everyone can afford to upgrade(or more realistically cant even get a next gen because of availability) but it doesnt change the fact that ps5 is over a year old now. How long are we planning to bottleneck our games and expansions to accommodate old tech? I mean, ps4 dropped in 2013 ffs. If we keep trying to make a ps4 game that has upgrades for ps5(or the xb equivalent to that statement) were gonna get sub par products. I say go whole hog on the next gen, and give us something to be awed by, not something with minor buffs on games that run on consoles that are 8 years old. Realistically when I see a game with a PS5/PS4 release, to me that says, we made a ps4 game and used the extra horsepower of the PS5 to squeeze some extra resolution and/or frame rate from that ps4 game. BUT its still a PS4 game. I say, if we want the best possible games, we gotta ditch the ps4 versions and start building the games specifically for the next gen. It isnt next gen anymore. After a year, its current gen. AND AGAIN, I fully understand that this current gen consoles are tough to get, and I do sympathize with those who cant get their hands on one. But that doesn't invalidate my points mentioned above. PS: to those still hunting a ps5. I struggled every day for like 4 months straight fruitless. Was about to give up and just build a PC out of spite(even though it would cost 4x more, seriously) BUT I joined a PS5 drop discord, and had one 3 days later. Literally. They arent that hard to get if you use all the resources at your disposal. Join a PS5 drop discord, get the ping that says store x drops in 5 minutes, load up the page, and collect your prize.

3 RepliesGot bad news for you, it's far far far more likely they drop support for old gen consoles entierly this time next year, than it is they ever add a FOV slider for them. They do not have the processing power to do even do that
-
This game in general feels old. Screen tear, crappy p2p gameplay, lag in crucible. Adds teleporting. This game is old gen
-
5 RepliesYeah, no. honestly the old gen of consoles is LITERLLY hurting game development and they have to gimp current released to account for trash hardware. It's time to move on and leave old gen in the dust.

They spend all their focus on particle saturation in effects instead of concentrating on gameplay. The last generation of consoles could easily handle pseudo 60 FPS with absolutely no problems. Most games have been doing pseudo 60 FPS since two generations previous ago.
-
They can't. They went over this several times years ago, anything over 72 fov crashed the game when there where explosions, due to hardware. This will never, and can never, be changed
-
Old Gen can't handle the FOV. Destiny has too much going on at once to handle the fov.
-
4 RepliesI agree. Or at least put it back to how it was in D1 as standard.
-
5 RepliesI suggest everyone still on last gen to get at least an XBOX series S. It's the only next gen console that is somewhat realistic to get and affordable. I doubt Bungie will ever give any attention to previous gen anymore. I have a PS5 and Series S right now and while the PS5 has the edge over Series S the series S is still really good to play Destiny 2 on. Finding a PS5 or Series X out there is near impossible without having to pay way over price.

The old gen base consoles definitely are totally incapable of doing this. The higher end versions however are fully capable of it. Xbox One and Xbox One S run off of extremely slow DDR3, a strong for what it is but still slow GPU, and an extremely jury rigged CPU thats slow just so it can have 8 cores. There is 0 way the old gen consoles can handle their operating systems and bumping up D2 that much. The Xbox One X however could support it for sure, no question there. It runs some pretty good DDR5 (granted its GDDR5 but still), and has 12GB of it. GPU is definitely beefy by comparison to the others being almost 3 times better and the CPU actually has an alright speed. Moving to the Playstation side, a base PS4 is a big maybe. It has 8GB of slightly slower GDDR5 and nearly an identical CPU to the Xbox One and Xbox One S. Though, the base PS4 has a better GPU by a landslide but still nowhere near the Xbox One X. PS4 Pro is a definite yes. However, considering how fast tech is advancing, even with shortages it wouldn't be worth Bungie's time or money to try and allow FOV modification on older consoles and would likely cause a whole host of issues that wouldn't be worth the extended time and difficulties of.
-
1 ReplyIt will never happen, the hardware just can't handle that.
-
7 RepliesOld consoles might explode if they had an FOV slider for this game
-
Hardware limitations on previous gen.

3 RepliesYou can barely open the menus on those bricks.

4 RepliesLast Gen makes it sound like the last console ever, I feel like “previous Gen” or “-blam!- Gen” would be more correct
