For the past few days i've been getting into the worst. Sweatiest. Tryhard. Meta lobbies.
Now every now and then, I don't mind playing a little competitive, for the most part I like a close match. But why does EVERY match feel like this ? Why can't I just log in, do bounties and just chill and use a non meta loadout ? I'm not a bad player by any means, but crucible this season has felt extremely sweaty. The majority of my matches end in a mercy. Even when my teams wins in a mercy, it still feels wrong and plain annoying.
Every corner I turn, I get melted by a Vex or one shot by some broken cheese or one shot by a hard scoping aim assist tube (Snipers). I recently started playing clash again and boy oh boy that is the sweatiest mode in crucible. Like I said I don't mind sweats (I'm a sweat myself). But why does the enemy team have like 5 Legend or top 500 players, and my team has bronze players and blueberry's. My team literally has only like 3 Gods and the enemy team has 5 Gods, and no they're not even stacking.
I've also notice a pattern, although this could just be me overthinking. I would win 2 matches and always lose the next 3. Also if I haven't played pvp in a while I would always have easy lobbies when returning, but after playing for a while again I would eventually have lopsided lobbies again. I've noticed this pattern ever since season 15 started. But like I said it could just be me overthinking it.
Am I the only player noticing the weird lobby tricks ? And am I the only one frustrated by the fact that my team is always waaaay under skilled compared to the enemy team (When they're not stacking).

1 ReplyWhat did you expect. Just like you, everyone who played pvp faced the same issues. They dealt with players who use meta weapons and subclasses. So they too start to use the meta weapons. No one goes into pvp to try to go negative. Like everyone, they go in to win or have fun. But when they start losing, they use the same load out as their opponent. Or they come in here and complain… just like you. Were expecting to play against all causal players all the time?

1 ReplyAfter coupe hundred hours poured in pvp I can confidently say this season they did change something in the matchmaking cause last season pvp was sometimes hard and sometimes chill. This season I’m always on the edge of my seat sweating my -blam!- off to try to win. The formula i have found to get consistently easy matches so I can just sit back, chill and play is: If I win a match with no mercy, I drop to orbit then que again. By doing this I start getting easier matches or more laidback. I call this “reset the win” If I lose with mercy or not mercy, I stay on the que till I get a win then do the win-orbit-win-orbit. If I win by a mercy, I drop to tower or helm for a good 3-5 minutes, I call this “let matchmaking cooldown” If I don’t “let mm cool down”, aka win by mercy the next 3 to 5 matches i will get awfully one sided matches and mostly against me and my team. So can’t apply the lose by mercy method. If I don’t “reset the win”, and half the team stays in Que, game will assemble next game teams in a way you most certainly lose the next one or if not, the third one. Ofc take this with a grain of salt, I might be delusional and I could’ve created a placebo effect on myself.

1 ReplyEdited by illz: 10/30/2021 10:11:17 AMI have around 32,000 pvp kills this season and approaching 300,000 overall. I love the game and honestly dont think bungie are aware of whats going on, im hoping theyll realise soon and revert the changes. I have left numerous posts, long and in-depth about this topic in the feedback section alas no acknowledgement was heard aside from it resonating with other players such as yourself. Despite bungie claiming matchmaking was left untouched this season, I am here to back up your claims and tell every person reading that matchmaking was changed. Im not sure there are many who have played as much pvp as me this season. I have played enough games and looked through my match history very carefully. The lobby balancing has been dialled up beyond all belief. I will enter a game solo and be stood at the front with a 3.04 and have five 0.3-0.8 besides me every game unless I stack with my clan. The enemy will be all 1.2- 2. My new/ lesser skilled team mates will proceed to get farmed and spawn camped. I will emerge with a 2-3 kda and my team mates with 0.x. Enemy team will all be 1.2-2. It is putting the lowest skill players with 1 highest skill player then throwing average/ above average at us. It sees that as lobby balancing. It doesnt work. If you are above average you have to move mountains every single game. I literally see the same 30-40 names every single day. Every other person I know, who plays a lot of pvp sees the exact same thing. It never in all of its history as a game, has been this bad in terms of matchmaking. Throw into this, the amount of lag due to it not prioritising connection and its use of peer to peer. Its unreal. It needs addressing. I feel so bad for the newer players just being thrown in as a metric to balance lobbys (incorrectly). It feels very contrived for a quickplay setting in that it seemingly forces a 50/50 w/l regardless of whether you have a raw 2.5kd spread over the past 50 matches played. How can one, who has spent 7 years, thousands of dollars and close to 10,000 hours across platforms on the franchise be motivated to play when they purposely put players who go 3kills- 22 deaths on your team. Its so forced, no matter what you do, you cant determine the outcome. I cant prevent the person your algorithm put on my team from running in over and over. I get it, once in a while. But close to every game im getting these outliers put on my team because im an outlier. Just unreal.

3 RepliesIt's called win throttling. The algorithm attempts to balance lobbies based on your win streaks and how high your elo is. It's a manufactured lobby "balancing". Its purpose was to give everyone a power fantasy and let even the worst players get some wins. The irony is that when they stack high elo vs high elo with a handful of bronze at the bottom- the winning team isnt the team that had the best strat- it's all about who has the worst blueberries. Try over coming two or three players on your team that go 1 and 22 to maybe 4 and 17.. my buddy and I will often lose if we both only drop 30 kills with 2.5 efficiency. Many times we need close to 40 a piece with a 3.0 or better to pull the win.

Well you know the saying a hammer never made the carpenter a master. So why not use what you like and own that shiz! 😁

You will just have to deal with it. Bungie does not know what to do, they are just as confused as we are. PvP is an unbalanced mess and this current group cannot fix it. They don’t do themselves any favors by introducing OP cheese one shot weapons and abilities.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 10/29/2021 2:58:26 AMdwindling player pool, only dedicated players remain. An example would be on the first & second week of trials my crew would shred through teams, now we just play out a card a week and call it because every round is a sweat fest. Its better then what it use to be though, I use to suicide off a map or MT myself every week if the 3 win loot quest was right because well cheating was on an insane level in trials & quick play BUT THEN WE GOT BATTLE EYE!!! Now its more a rarity, I only encountered one last week in trials. & it was not even iffy, after the first 3 rounds I committed the remaining 2 to testing his aim bot w/wall hack to be sure of my suspicions.

I thought I was the only one with this MM…it is borderline UnFun. Won 2 and lost 7. Sorta what sbmm is. I win 1 game in control and my next game is against 6 shatterdive hunters.

1 ReplyBest player in lobby and lost the game is a solo lifestyle at this point.

5 RepliesSometimes I feel like it turns mid-game. I’ll go from hitting every shot to having my fusion unable to hit. Often it feels like the damage output get throttled at the same time. Shots that would normally kill just get tanked. It also goes the other way. Somehow mid-match I become a god who simply cannot miss and with a fusion that kills from distances that make high damage snipers jealous. Very odd feeling when these occur. Seems to be quite often this season, but maybe it is truly just me.

Remember, your “sh1ty, blueberry, useless, rubbish” teammates that you constantly get purely to ruin your personal PvP experience are having a much, much, much worse time than you are. I play PvP because every now and again you get two balanced teams and it’s huge fun. I generally accept all the rest. Having said that yesterday I got dropped into a lot of one sided games midway through (you know, just in time to get supered while you still can’t see anyone). I assume because a lot of players are bailing out of thrashings mid match. That really sucks.

Edited by A_mo: 10/29/2021 2:11:17 PMThey need to offer the kinds of people that this matchmaking is royally screwing over their own daily playlist. Those people are the people who wouldn't complain if connection and gameplay quality were put first, win or lose. At this point there is no acceptable excuse for the levels of broken. And saying "well they don't like playing their peers" is about as disingenuous as it gets. Its broken, and for some reason everyone is supposed to pretend like the game has never worked differently. If you are so bad or play so little that you can't tell how god awful the shot registration and mismatched the movement in control is then you and what you want shouldn't be dictating what other people get.

Lobby balancing is terrible in this game. Which is why they never acknowledge it.
-
8 RepliesSo you want easy matches? Why are you upset that you have to try in pvp against other players?
-
It's pathetic. Hopefully they don't touch it though because they're only capable of making it worse. This is a brand new level of foolishness

3 RepliesIt must just be you, no one else has mentioned lobby balancing until now. 🤷♂️

Because for some reason bungie caters to skill groups. They cant just let the people who suck, suck. Im a slightly above average player. This game isnt hard by any means but for some reason people thing this is esports and want to be the next shroud. I havnt been able to enjoy almost anything in this game for the last few weeks.

10 RepliesI’ve been on this Train for the last YEAR. And all I get is donuts saying “sounds like a skill issue” Yup, it’s my fault I can’t fight 5 players by myself because my teammates are shooting at the moon in the daylight… Then you go and look those players up and all they do is 6 stack. It’s comical. Lobby Balancing in this game is ridiculously broken. I’ve literally got hundreds of SS of my team all going negative with only me and one other player going positive. I just refuse to stay in those lobbies anymore. I literally leave a quarter of my games because the score is 10-40 within the first 2 minutes of the match. I’m not good enough to 1v5. I’m barely good enough to carry myself let alone 4 teammates. I’ll just continue to requeue until Bungie fixing this mess

Idk what’s happening. I play a lot of crucible. I mean a lot. Minimum of 2-3 hours a day. It’s extremely rare for me not to see a top 1% player on my team or the enemy team. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lobby that didn’t have a top 5% player. Worse part is that top 1-5% player is leagues better than their entire team or enemy team. And while it is rare I wouldn’t say it’s uncommon for that players entire team to come out negative and still win because that one player pretty much 1v6 the other team and won. Match making is so bad that games are determined before the match begins. This season I’ve have maybe 2 games that the final score of 150 differed by 10 or less points. And I’d say around 50% the final score had a difference of 50 or greater and mercy wins/losses are all to common. At this point I don’t even try to win, I just try to get as many kills as possible because why try? If we are getting stomped capping zone won’t help. We will still lose just by less, but losing is losing. And if we are winning killing them before they cap zones helps. Zone control is a team game mode that more often than not is won by 1-2 players.

1 ReplyI71225x You make some valid points and I agree that eververse must be removed from this game but, Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather, he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank just outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold

Vex is broken in PvP. Don't let anyone tell you differently. It will get nerfed eventually, but we have to wait a while. Regarding the win-lose pattern you mentioned, this has been my experience over and over and over in Survival. I have had no progress for a month. At this point I have more or less stopped playing Survival. The Competitive match type requires rework. For starters, its algorithm is years old and it is based on the old player population + rewards available when it was designed. Bungie should remove both the points loss and the timeout penalty, if they want more gamers in this match type. However, with the emphasis being placed on Trials -- and the neglect shown to Competitive -- it would not surprise me if they retire the Competitive match type next season.

Bungie, I'm convinced, has no idea what they're doing with matchmaking. 6+ years and this is what we have... they've gone from CBMM, to SBMM, back to CBMM... on and on, and now seem to have settled on something I not so fondly refer to as FUMM.

2 RepliesEdited by A KOOL POP TART: 10/28/2021 11:05:39 PMI'm hoping that once, or rather if, they iron out trials they will move on to regular crucible. I've been playing Halo lately and most of my games have been pretty laid back. Then again, the core gameplay in both is significantly different. Maybe theyll release that guns only gametype at some point.
