Leviathan (Fundament not the raid)

In destiny hive lore, it speaks of the "Leviathan", which tries to prevent Savathun, Xivu Arath, and Orxy from going into the deep. Is the Leviathan from the light or dark? Also, what species? Is it a worm god? I'm just having trouble with imagery.

  • The Leviathan from Books of Sorrow was a Follower of the Light. The Worm gods were, I think imprisoned in Fundament which was why the Leviathan was standing Guard. Been awhile. But the Worm gods Origin....is a bit unknown. So believe they spawned from the Garden. Given why they have a Deep connection to...the Deep.

Light. It served as the watcher for the Worm Gods. Given the philosophy of the Sky, it wasn’t allowed to stop anyone from going to the Worm Gods. It is not a Worm God, by all accounts of it and their description. It’s possible another Leviathan could be the “eel” that the Gardner showed to Clovis Bray in a vision about the Exos. As the one on Fundament showed electrical abilities like some eels do. It’s unknown if it’s the creature seen swimming on Titan.

The Leviathan is indeed a creature of mythical proportions which advised the Hive to not pursue the Deep. In doing so, they found the Worm gods which were trapped by fundament, the traveler, and the leviathan. Scared for the wave which would kill them, Savathun convinced her sisters to pursue the worms. The leviathan is the first sign we are moving towards a singular ending which Calus speaks of and he believes it is, in part, due to the leviathan's actions. It's ironic you thought the leviathan wasn't related to the light or dark because the answer is both. The leviathan is the equivalent of an acolyte of light. Similar to mithrax, but is built around a much stronger component yet to be revealed to us. As you see at the end of that, however, it is Savathun, using an ahamkara phrase to indicate they should trust the worms. This is the core reason why Savathun's loyalty IS to the worm, but she will use the light for her own ends as an untrustworthy trickster...

A giant whale being

Now this makes me wonder about Calus. I think I vaguely can recall that once he spoke about the Dark or was it the Deep? And his ship Leviathan, world eater? If any of these have any connection at all with other things like OP's post? I'm just lost.

          • But all joking aside, yes, Dune was an inspiration to Destiny, and a lot of artists on Destiny are actually working on the art of Dune production. A lot of the armor team designs the costumes. https://www.instagram.com/joseph.a.cross/

            • The leviathan was just a follower of the traveler and was a creature of gigantic size and power. Unfortunately oryx, Savathuun and Xivu arath with the aid of their new worms and worm gods, they killed the leviathan.

            • I believe it’s a balance. When it’s talking, you can see “+” and “-“ next to when it talks, evenly balanced out. But as it talks, it loses its balance and becomes “tired”. Why it tries to stop the siblings, is because it knows what is down there is evil. The proto-hive may have no hope against the God-Wave, but at least they could live out their days in peace, rather than become what they are now. I don’t think the Leviathan has any desire to “keep the balance of light and dark” or anything like that, but it knows both the kindness of the sky and the strictness of the deep.

            • Light, as it tries to stop them reaching the worm gods, who are agents of the dark

            • It's not a Worm God, it was a follower of the Traveler that guarded the Worm God's prison
