Let Us Appear Offline in Destiny

I have gathered many "friends" through this game. But sometimes I want to watch movies, play other games or grind out bounties solo in peace without the "Roster" tab burning me out to clanmates or those on my friends list. When they see I'm online I get spammed with invites until I turn off my system or I'm forced to "help out" when I would have rather done my own business. Bungie. Please respect the privacy setting on our systems. Please add a privacy setting to Destiny. Edit:
"Just say no" The underling issue with what I described above is that Bungie and Destiny are bypassing people's privacy settings regardless if those people are playing this game or not. This is not OK. People choose to use these settings for one reason or another and those settings should be respected. It is entirely within Bungie's power to fix this issue.

"This is not an issue" I know this is nowhere as bad as earning too much candy too fast. But it is still an issue that Bungie should work on fixing.

"Use offline mode / This is a you problem not a Bungie problem / don't waste Bungie's time" People keep saying this. Again, this does not work because Bungie and Destiny 2 bypasses all your security settings. Believe it or not I have been appearing offline for 13 years and my privacy settings have been and still work as intended in over 800 games and apps not called Destiny or Destiny 2. This is an issue that Bungie has created and they should be the ones to fix it.
• I have also been appearing offline on my PS for months. I only come online when I can’t join a group unless I’m online for some reason. Too many people see you online and the messages/invites start. It’s great that people want to message or to have me play with them. But I usually just want to play with a few people or single player games. Or watch a movie. I jump on to D2 to grind lost sectors or quests on alt characters. The Bungie app shows who is on the game regardless of your status on your hardware of choice. I really hate that. One of our other admins is seriously nosy and is always checking to see what everyone is doing. Bungie should respect our choice to be online or not. If this does not affect you, then what do you care? I personally am not asking for them to devote the resources of an entire group of people away for this. But if they could be aware of it being a QoL change for their app group, then I don’t think it will take away from the game development right?

    • This is not Bungies problem. This is a you problem. This is like a 500 pound man claiming the mouthwatering advertisements he saw about McDonald's cheeseburgers forced him to eat 12 mcmackle pack combos back to back. That it was the advertisements that forced his hand and jaw muscles to gobble burger after burger, not his pathetic lack of restraint. You have what is called an addiction, when your addiction begins to take over other aspects of your life, that is not healthy. You need to accept this as your responsibility, it's not Bungies. Have some self respect and take care of your life, I am rooting for you.

      • If you appear offline/do not disturb (ps/xbox) and log in to destiny you cant be seen in game. Unfortunately, someone can see if you're online using the companion app or website, if you're in the same clan. Someone may be able to search you up on the above options and see your previous activities and how long ago they were (lucky that can be turned off). Also closing or putting your fireteam on invite only can help too The only thing you can do now is just use what you can to show offline but I'd also suggest getting people you play with to understand that when I'm offline I'm not looking to play with others, I've have to make the clear before, more often than not they understand and it ends there.

Unfriend, go into “offline mode” (Ps4/5), go into do not disturb mode (xbox), say no, ignore it, leave privacy settings to closed. You have a slew of options, put on your big boy pants and stop wasting Bungies time.

        • What platform are you using? I've used Xbox and now a PS5, and always go in offline mode when doing Comp or Trials, and never had an issue. Friends can't even see me or join my fireteam if I forget to turn it off. I haven't played on steam in awhile, but I recall it working in a similar fashion. I wouldn't appear on their roster as an online friend/clanmate. They could, however, see me on the Discord, which is weird. If it's really problematic, do what I did, and get a roku/AppleTV, Chromecast, etc. and use that to watch your programs.

          • This has to be against one or several privacy laws I'm sure. I don't live in the States myself, but I hear American people love suing each other.

            • If you appear offline on your platform then you should appear offline on their bungie friends lists. I have tested this with some friends for you :)

              • I actually had someone that would send me messages just because I was appearing offline as if there was something weird about the fact that he should be minding his own business more. It needs to be changed.

              • but there's always the problem of solicitation, grooming, and harassment. I'm not being dramatic about it, there's more then enough cases where just using Destiny to "meet up with people" can lead to serious problems.

At least on ps, i think you can still appear offline in-game from ps friends as long as they arent also “bungie friends”. Maybe the same works for xbox, i doubt bungie will ever allow hiding offline to work across platforms. Clan mates will always see you regardless of the platform and friend status.

                • Hey there. I’m wondering why you don’t just out on do not disturb? Sure you’ll be “online” but you don’t get any notifications at all on Xbox. This is an issue bungie should look into, but you might be one of a very few people because when people aren’t on destiny they don’t show up.

                • I was wondering why people could still see me even though I appear offline. Thanks for the heads up.

                  • To me it sounds like you don’t want friends, which means you’re anti-social. My suggestion would be to remove all your friends so you’d no longer need to appear offline. In my experience, if I friend someone who always appears offline, they’ll receive the boot very quickly because I’m not going to acknowledge an invite from them when they refuse mine.
