Oh I certainly agree that this was to boost the numbers of cannon fodder for the top percentages and to make it easier for the streamers to do their carries.
But surely solo play only would alleviate this problem?

I don't disagree at all. The problem is with the entire idea though, however. It's utter nonsense. There is no way to balance it out, it HAS to be designed for the few to absolutely stomp the many, from the ground up, or it doesn't work. 7 wins? You can't balance games to peered skill and then design a system that requires 7 wins, it just won't happen. The perfect matchmaking system has a flat 50/50 win/lose rate. Ideally no matter how good you are your odds will be 50/50 because the other team is also as good, and thus it comes down to compounding mistakes to get a loss. You can't design a system where this occurs with consitency in pop to the point where you get 7 wins in a row. So the only option is to have things wildly unbalanced by design to pander to the few, to s their d so they keep playing and then trick others into thinking they have a chance. When they don't, by design. The hope that they do will keep them hopefully running on the treadmill. They never had a chance though, by design, because the entire design of the system is to reward only a few and turn the rest into cannon fodder. So they talk about a solo playlist, but they don't actually want to do it. They want to keep feeding people into the meat grinder to keep a few happy because they know those people in the meat grinder will just go do some astral alignments after, but they want to keep the pvl players from going to other games. Will there be a solo playlist? Maybe eventually, once they have run trials so far into th ground again it's pretty much a loss like it was before, but certainly don't expect to see it as a permanent thing anytime soon.

Edited by Motorhead England: 10/11/2021 8:28:28 PMYou're absolutely right my friend, and you explained it so well. But sadly, it is this precise system that produces the pseudo top player list, you know, the ones who think they are PvP gods, when realistically, they are only SLIGHTLY better than the average player. I commented on a youtube vid I recently watched, whereby the creator was moaning about Bungie bringing back weapons that had different perks to the original "god rolls". I stated that it's a lucky weapon drop that helps make a player good, and not necessarily the player. For example, I've seen lots of gameplay footage where a hunter has took a pot shot with a sniper, has rolled away and dodged out of danger before the bullet has landed a perfect headshot. A top tier player some might claim, but take away the hunters dodge perk, bullet magnetism, bloom, cone size, and other weapon perks that make bullets magically aim for the enemies head, and it's no different to throwing an overpowered snowball that can freeze an entire team. This shot would be one in a million in an accurately produced game. I would love to play a shooter game that doesn't have all the BS, and where the bullet actual hit where the cross hair was. Lets see how good players really are without the mods, perks and space magic.

Thats because, like you said, really it's only the illusion of skill for most. I have a friend who's kda is 4.0+. The dude is one of the 0.1%. He is honestly one of the best players at a game I have ever seen. no cap. When we play control or whatever he goes after the other teams top player. Yea he will kill the other kids in the way, but he's all about being number 1 by virtue of being the best not just stomping players who can't fight back. But those people are by definition extremely rare. Not just the attitude either (that's rare) but the actual skill. Look at trials.report by weapon used. 3.5m is mythoclast. 5th on the list is 1.5m You don't think the flavor of the month build and weapon is carrying your mediocre skill to get you that little bit better ttk? I would imagine if you actually spent the time to research it you would find a lot of mediocre players carried by overpowered gear. Couple the gear and weapon advantage eith a team that can talk, and your force multiplier is in the 1.4x+ It's like gambling, if you stack the odds in your favour far enough it's irrelevant if you win or lose, long term you will keep winning. That doesn't make you good, it just makes the odds stacked heavily in your favour. This is the point where typically the sweats will be like "ThEn FaRm So ThE OdDs ArE iN uR FaVoUr!!!" Which already has a name. Sbmm, you know, where you seek similar or even odds to play against. Only morons gamble on horrible odds, unless the payoff is unbelievable (like the lotto). To continue the gambling analogy, if your odds of winning any bet was under 20% and you had to win 7 times to see any real reward, why the -blam!- would you bother? You wouldn't, you would leave because it's a waste of your time.

I too know an excellent player, clan member, who has basically carried people to the lighthouse single handedly, but in past seasons. He had honed his skills to a fine art, but only ever used hunter and a handful of weapons, his favourite being a rare blue hand cannon. And only ever played PvP. He had a break and returned in the depressing times of stasis, and was totally out of his depth. Hell, he even talked about quitting through frustration because he couldn't perform as he used to, and even struggled in nightfalls. If someone plays one tune on the same guitar for long enough, they will bang it out note for note perfectly. But it doesn't make them a guitarist. I purposely do not use meta weapons in PvP, I find them cheap and degrading, and I totally refuse to use stasis. These are my choices and I know it affects my K.D, ELO, or whatever these insignificant numbers are, but I know the few kills I get are through my ability and not some crutch weapon or class. I get your take on gambling, but we're not talking about winning a life changing sum of money. It's a game that most of us have paid for, and should be enjoyed by all. But until it's fundamentally changed to a be more fair and balanced, this forum will always be filled with unhappy players who rightly feel they are being ignored.
