My clan mates used to nag me all the time to do ghost lobbies in trials to get them their Sherpa seals. I always denied. One day after about 4 months of this I said fine as they know where I live and I know the leader of the clan can get violent with so I was kinda scared to keep saying no. I regret this. After they did this, I regretted it immediately as I had nothing to gain from trials unless it was a cloak week.
I now haven’t been able to play destiny out of the fear of all the work I’m putting in being permanently gone. So if someone could let me know if the bans for this are permanent. Because I could deal with a temp ban, but a permanent one I can’t. It’s my fault for saying yes but I really want to be able to play without feeling sick about how I might lose my progress.

Easy. Find a new clan. Problem solved.

At no point is someone going to physically harm you because you wouldn't cheat in a video game. If there was even a slight chance that was true, you would stop playing the game with them immediately and contact the police. You cheated and you're desperately trying to avoid being punished. That's pretty much all there is to it, right?

if they are threatening you you should also report them to the relevant platform if thru chat and your local authorities if in real life.

Sounds like a crappy clan if they have to resort to cheating to get rewards, or use scare tactics.

I know of dozens of people who did this for months, week after week and they're not banned. Although it technically is against the terms of service, its unlikely bungie will ban everyone who did this. I imagine the numbers are in the tens of thousands

Well first off leave the clan and report them. Second block communication form the old clan members. Now that were putting personal safety above a video game, ghost lobbies. The only temporary restrictions that Bungies issues are for connection issues. Everything else is permanent, well 500 years to be specific. If Bungie catches wind of their ghost lobbies and starts issuing bans, then you account is at risk of being banned. TLDR: Bungie can ban for ghost lobbies and if they do be prepared to loose access to our account for at least 500 years.

Ban offence. To do ghost lobbies you need to mess with the games matchmaking system to stop a opposite team joining. Mess with the game in any way is a ban if caught. And before your friends say otherwise we regularly see people kicking off on this forum page about being banned and the reason was ghost lobbies. You get no warning if caught and no second chances... Good news is that bans are not permanent... just lasting 500 years.
