This is awesome.. Looks awesome and is even better that Bungie asked one of its own, who was born and raised in Mexico to create it to be more authentic. Here is my issue.. and i'm torn.. The past couple years, I and many like me have been told that walking around with culturally appropriated hair, clothing, styles, art, basically anything referenced by minority cultures as theirs is somehow wrong for me. So if I love this art style by this amazing artist and show appreciation by using it.. isn't that exactly the same thing.. Doesn't that actually help presever a culture and extend its life with appreciation..
It can't go both ways.. it can't be wrong and right to appropriate other cultures at the same time.
Anyone want to wade in here?

3 RepliesCultural appropriation is a lie told by the sith to keep the jedi weak. There is only cultural appreciation. If you enjoy a culture, and partake in an aspect of it, you are not harming that culture. You are appreciating the culture, no matter your skin color.

1 ReplyPersonally I would have rathered it be on a non standard looking ghost shell, but that’s just me. As for the rest, if we were back 10 years ago or so, I doubt most would bat an eye. We are in a very odd time these days where everyone is suddenly offended by everything, so it’s very difficult for you to show appreciation towards anything without someone being an a**. Society in itself has regressed. That’s part of the problem.
-
Uhhh, we live in a post-fun society so naturally everything everyone does and says is wrong. Except this post. /s In all honesty if this offends someone… -blam!- ‘em.
-
Here's the thing: Im using it and literally nobody can tell me otherwise. Its appreciation, not appropriation. Dont like it? Deal with it. Deal with it.
#Dealwithit

Sad if you cannot appreciate another culture. I really don’t know what to say anymore. Everyone stay in a box ? With “ your own” ? My family is Italian, Irish English and French.. what do I do ? Can I tell you not to appreciate all of that? My grandparents would say shame on me ! Welcome everyone to the table.. eat and enjoy all cultures, all good.. enjoy.. cheers!!

I’m sure you wouldn’t get mad at me for loving Viking art and media that’s inspired by it. Enjoy the holiday in peace my dude.

Nothing wrong with what you enjoy, don’t let people get you down

1 Reply"cultural appropriation" is a cancel culture buzz-wordz it doesn't exist, love thy neighbor.

Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 10/9/2021 5:30:29 PMIf the internet banded together and deleted Twitter, CNN, Fox News, and Tumblr (and everything like those 4 entities), the world would be a better place. There is nothing wrong with appreciating a culture that you weren't born into. This is the US, we're called a melting pot for a reason. I've never met a Mexican (it's a Mexican holiday btw) who was angry at a white person for saying "your holiday has some wicked cool artwork associated with it". I'm stoked for the dia de los muertos shell. I had a pair of Etnies with a similar design once and I think the art is super cool. But, do yourself a solid and look up what the holiday is all about so you know what's being celebrated. Otherwise you're that guy from Nebraska who unironically pronounces the L in "tortillas" lol and nobody wants to be that guy.

You’ve already committed cultural appropriation by typing Spanish. You monster!!!
-
Its a political term used to drum up anger most of the time. Not saying it doesnt exist, but most people dont understand what it means. I could eat a potato and buy a stick of deodorant and be called a racist and an appropriator at this point. The world is insane. Bringing attention to a culture and celebrating it, isnt an appropriation.

My Culture is American,we do what we want to (If we can afford it) If you like the shell than get it, it doesn't matter -
1 ReplyNothing wrong with picking up a ghost shell in Destiny 2 because you like the way it looks.
-
The ghost shell isn't anything I'm remotely interested in trying to attain. It's quite ugly, in my opinion. Not worthy of any grind, bright dust or silver.
-
3 RepliesNo, there is nothing wrong with using the ghost shell.
It’s just my personal opinion but, labeling cultures and races of people as minorities, is about the single most racist thing you can say or do.
8 RepliesThis “cultural appropriation” stuff is dumb. Every time I eat a taco I’m “culturally appropriating”? It’s a free country. America is mix of all cultures. If you don’t like it deal with it.
-
Be yourself Wear whatever you want. As long as you are not trying to be offensive then you are fine. Wear your favorite artist with pride and share the culture. If others have a problem with you representing your/other's culture then they need to get out more and get some culture.

Do what yah want -blam!- the other people... That's pretty much it

2 RepliesEdited by Necrogen: 10/8/2021 7:47:57 PMYou need to think more in line with the game itself. In Destiny the races of the world came together and now began to share the planet and coexist better because of the golden age. It makes sense to see different flares of cultures and styles at the tower. We should see these things. Outside of the game: This is nothing but respect for the holiday and it is very appropriate given the month we're in. Sometimes, users need to stop overthinking and overstating subjects like this.

If the question is "Is it cultural appropriation" yes it absolutely is. Not a question. The issue is that cultural appropriation is less harmful than people imagine it is. So here's the thing. If you go out dressed in something offensive like a towel turban with toilet paper tubes taped to your shirt, that's -blam!- cultural appropriation, it misrepresents someone's culture in the meanest sense. If you decide to decorate your house with day of the dead iconography instead of ghouls and vampires then that's not harming anyone, especially because you will probably /learn/ something about the festival in the process. St Patrick's day and Halloween (Feast of Samhain) are both Irish festivals and most people know very little about them, we still celebrate them, Irish heritage or not. And before you say "Irish people weren't oppressed minorities like Latinos" I will encourage you to do your research first. Appropriation isn't cool... It also isn't really all that harmful unless someone is just being an -blam!- about it. Is it appropriation? Yeah honestly it is. It's also not harmful and in the long term may help the descendants of Latino immigrants face less persecution.
-
Cultural appropriation more comes from people using the looks of a culture without any effort of appreciation for what it means to them. Hair I think is a bit of a dumb one but things like wearing an Indian head dress because you think it looks cool and not respecting it’s cultural significance is appropriation. The ghost is made for the purpose of celebrating the tradition and thereby not appropriation as it’s not just for the look but directly tied to the celebration it is inspired by.
