Hey guys quick question would you rather destiny take up more hard drive space and keep old content ? Or is space really important to everyone?

It's never been about storage space. It's always been making as many paywalls as possible so that Free2Players get absolutely nothing to do without spending money. Even this Forsaken Pack is a blatant cashgrab, especially when all of that stuff should be free after being vaulted. But no, Bungie have to be the scum of the Earth at every turn and keep expecting more and more money from players, even going as far as to expecting people to pay for 3 year old exotics that you have to buy from a kiosk on the Tower because they physically cannot be earned. People need to wake up and stop believing Bungies absolute horseshit about their schemes.
And I say this as someone who's owned everything up to current season, so no I'm not a Free2Player.
Edited by Illuminary: 10/9/2021 12:52:30 PMI'd rather they dump D2 and completely remake a new game from the ground up with entirely new resources. Space doesn't matter as BL3 is well over 100g and plays fine. Vaulting content was an excuse they made because their technology is old and garbage, so they sold a few gullible goons on the space issue.

1 ReplyI'd rather get a new game (d3) instead of this method.

7 RepliesIf it were only due to space I'd say leave it all in. Unfortunately, especially on consoles, the larger games simply run poorly. However, as Bungie outlined in their article introducing the DCV, the size of the game on a person's drive is only a small part of why they introduced the DCV. https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/49189

It’s not about the hard drive space.

1 ReplyI would be fine with it if we actually got an equal amount back, bungie stated themselves there will never ever be a taken king or forsaken sized dlc again. So to me removing forsaken to add witch queen is not an equal trade and that's my issue with it

None of the above. It would be nice if they started thinking with their brain instead of their wallet. Content vaulting shouldn't have ever been a thing. This was Bungie's dumb move just like the base game was but they are trying to squeeze 2 games into one with their outdated engine and it's become a disater.

1 ReplyEdited by Jibunnokage: 10/8/2021 4:27:48 AMLet us be clear... there are some very big games on the various consoles, PCs, etc. So why did Bungie vault? They refuse to expand the game infrastructure costs... yes costs... beyond a given level... so they cap the environment and vault content. This is a cost decision not a technical issue. I have both implemented and designed massive environments for over 15 years of my 30 year IT career, virtualization, enterprise infrastructure, global scale, etc. The key is that D2 is a distributed environment across 100s of servers, in not 1000s, varying per tier, across various vendors that get the game traffic from point a to point b and back... this rented, leased, contracted services by Bungie. The costs per site any location vary significantly as well, for example the cost of providing distributed service... i.e. D2 for example, is cheaper in the US, but more in UK, and in Germany for example... if not most of Europe even more expensive. The issue is not just the source point of D2 which Bungie has direct control over from a scaling perspective, but the greater distributed infrastructure (shared) that D2 lives on to be geographically responsive. Similar model is how Cell service works... there are a few top tier vendors, but several regional vendors, then more localized vendors in some cases, then you get to the individual towers for example. Online gaming is similar in concept, glossing over some technical differences and exceptions.

2 RepliesIf I remember right it was more Bungie couldn't effectively manage Destiny at it's previous size rather than hard drives being to small.
-
2 RepliesI don’t think it’s a matter of just our hard rice space. It’s the actual size of the game for Bungie to work and alter. I’m not a ‘fan’ of the content vault but I think it’s a necessary evil. I’m glad they are keeping the dreaming city as I think this is a great location with still lots of potential and in my opinion last wish is the best raid. But I will definitely miss Pressage and I still miss the Whisper mission.
-
1 ReplyDon’t care about the DCV. The vaulted content has been around long enough that people have had more than enough time to enjoy it.
-
A decent size keeps my drive free for other large games I like to play off and on. However, Destiny 2 is always prioritized and I've no problem removing other games for it. As far as the removed content itself, I didn't feel like my experience had been diminished the last time it happened and I doubt I will for the next

I have 2 TB of SSD space. And I still don't want a 200GB Behemoth on my drive. I do like the amount of salt on the forums again though, everyone is acting so surprised.
-
It is old tat and stale now, let it go to the DCV. Let's have something fresh.

It isn’t just about space, it makes it easier for their programmers to do their jobs. There’s millions of lines of code so being able to forget about some decrease errors and time to make new content that won’t clash with any old stuff. This is my understanding from some of the articles they’ve released at least, I’m far from an expert. With that being said though, I would rather have more of the game and lose storage space. I still support the DCV though, while I have as much storage as I could ever went some of my friends and many other people do not. Additionally, people act like bungie is doing this to screw us over. I’m no expert of player psychology, so maybe the fear of missing out pulls in more money. I would imagine though that they would make more leaving it all in to be purchasable. Everything they’re removing is useless to the current player base (at least the majority of it) and any content we get back in the future is part of the free version of the game which is limited.

Do you not remember the 10 minute flight to the tower? Take it out!!!
-
I'd rather them keep the D2 original maps and content. If they want extra space remove that boring af D1 'content' they added to D2. Wasting time playing anything from D1 makes me dislike destiny more and more....
-
My thoughts on content vault ; My thoughts don’t matter
-
10 RepliesI think the argument is that There's a cap and whether you want it or not, it can't take up too much space From what I've heard. Apparently, starting with witch queen there's supposedly going to be a new dungeon and/or raid every season.
-
13 RepliesDCV needs to go. Now im not an expert but why is it D1 had way more content and it all stayed until the end. Why cant D2 the newer game do the same. I just don't understand what the issue is
-
The thing that annoys me most is that it feels like we still haven't balanced out the content we lost with what we got this year. If they did that, then I would be more OK with them taking stuff out. But the game still feels really incomplete and neglected.
-
I'd rather the game was feasible to update server side with patches and new content. That's why the space matters, not because of client side hd space
-
1 ReplyIf bungie didn't have so many vanilla areas that are stretches of up to two minutes without a single enemy encounter, then DCV wouldn't be necessary
-
For me, space is important and I think it’s good some stuff is leaving. I play about 3 other games along with destiny with friends and clubs, plus I share my Xbox, so I have to save any bit of space I can. Besides, most of the stuff that was removed was barley used. Forsaken is a little more important, but the dreaming city and raid is staying, so it’s not so bad as it could have been
-
Honestly its sad but sacrifices must be made sometimes for better or for worse, i will miss the content but to be fair out of all the red war story missions i only played 3 the most, homecoming, the story mission where you save cayde on nessus and the final story mission which was beating ghaul all the rest i haven’t touched. Forsaken was the same the last call mission and the final mission to kill uldren, thats it those were the only ones that were memorable to me the rest was just bland filler honestly.
