What if the Witch Queen trailer is a red herring
So I was bored the other day and thought of something.
I don't think it is very likely but it seemed a fun idea to entertain.
We don't actually see fighting with the Hive Guardians that were teased in the reveal trailer and this is biased based on me not wanting Savathun to die (Honestly I'd rather kill Mara at this point and have the Witch Queen as an ally).
So any thoughts on the idea that maybe we're actually allying with Savathun and helping her fend off a threat to her throne world like Xivu Arath (I had to come up with some reason why we are in her throne world).
Would anyone actually be interested in something like an alliance with Savathun happening or is this flight of fancy unique to me?
Curious what people think of the idea.

Doesnt add up. Savathun has the same voice as the one imprisoned right now and we do fight those Hive Guardians in actual gameplay and in the trailer they're kinda charging toward the 3 alchemist bois.

1 ReplyMy pet theory is that the creature we see in the trailer isn’t savathun. I think they deliberately avoided showing her emerge from Osiris to not spoil anything. Personally, I think it’s Eris from the dark future timeline. The model is reminiscent of her headgear and robes.

2 RepliesNot a 100% sure it'll be Savathun, but I still like to point back to the end of Season of Arrivals. The last thing the Darkness shows us is a room with a Pyramid in the middle, with statues of Humans, Cabal, Eliksni and Hive all standing around it, many in a kneeling position, as if defeated. The only race that wasn't present was the Vex. So, considering the Darkness has honestly been one of the only forces to never lie to us (as far as we know) I get the vibe the final fight will be the Darkness (Taken, Vex, Scorn and anything else that gets added), vs the Light (Humanity/Awoken, Cabal, Eliksni, and the Hive.) After all, if it wasn't for the fact that she is the god of deceit, her goal would be similar to ours. However, much like Calus and the darkness, I don't see her using her demiurge for the purpose that it abides by. I think the Lucent Brood may lead to good things, but I think Savathun will not be part of it.

We do have a clip of a guardian crushing a hive ghost, so not so sure about that

3 RepliesWell, we have Fallen Captain Mithrak, Cabal Emperor's daughter Caiatl, so why not a hive ally? And I'm still wondering what was that about when Eris Morn smiled when she touched a statue inside a Pyramid seasons ago. I mean she have survived a hive incursion and aquired some hive skill or whatever that green rock in her hand. Also wondering what's her take on Savathun? Unless she secretly is serving Xivu Arath. I haven't read any lore pages lately at all.

I’m not gonna lie The constant savathun references and call backs and mentions have just gotten me tired of seeing and hearing about her for all these years. I’m just ready to kill her and turn her into a gun already.

She's willfully participated in the deaths of trillions and only now does she really start doubting things enough to take action. She willingly put the Awoken through a torturous curse loop, she caused all of the problems she "helped" solve, and she doesn't have a shred of care for anyone else with few exceptions. -blam!-, she doesn't even care about her own family. She is happy Oryx is gone. -blam!-, she's the one ripped all good will from him while he was still Auryx and before love became war to the Hive. She tried to permanently kill him later on when she stated she'd sacrifice herself so he could speak to the Worm Gods. Not to mention she's been the overall antagonist of D2 for over three years now and she needs to shove off permanently so the Pyramids can enter fully. I don't want the Hive to breathe the same air as the Pyramids, especially not her.>

Now you do raise an interesting idea. I for one am curious as to what Savathun could possibly gain from being our enemy, rather than go on her merry way after we deal with our mutual enemies.

This is strictly a "you" thing. We already have a good idea of where Bungie is going in Witch Queen. If you want to write an off topic spin off then go ahead but there's very little speculation about February's release and what's happening in it

1 ReplyI had a similar thought. It seemed like too stupid of a move to start the new season that sets up Witch Queen… with a trailer that spoils the ending. Unless it’s a misdirect. Then again. This is Bungie.

I mean...we will be fighting them. Because you saw them using supers on us and us crushing their ghosts.

2 RepliesThey didn't show us fighting the hive lightbearers but they did show an acolyte with a sentinel shield & I'm pretty sure I saw one use blade barrage or something similar to it.
