I see way too many people from Steam and PlayStation that don’t know how to even get to game chat or open Xbox app on their PC or discord linking. We need to learn this together lol
****added note
I know voice chat works in game for everyone right now.
If in-game fireteam chat doesn’t work for you something in your setting or nat type would be the only technical reason why you wouldn’t be able to hear.
I made this post to ask bungie to explain to people better how they can hear crossplay fireteam chat.
Bungie has said they will be issuing a more universal chat to better that experience in the future. IE in-game text chat/ better version of fireteam chat
*** DO NOT CONFUSE PLAYSTATION OR DISCORD OR XBOX “ PARTY “ CHAT with in game fireteam chat. I know game chat in your party will allow you to hear your lobby/ fireteam but on destiny it’s buggy right now. That’s why we shouldn’t be in those system specific chats if you are crossplaying with friends. But people don’t realize this….. hints the reason I posted this in the forum.

2 RepliesSo if I am reading this right, game chat works right now? If I am raiding as a PS5 gamer with gamers across different platforms, can we hear each other? I tried this two weeks ago and I couldn't hear the fireteam and had to leave. Thanks!

4 RepliesOpen PS app on phone, join party chat, done.

"Download discord" - Bungie 2021

I play on Xbox and pc. Tried a couple of cross plays when I was ion Xbox and couldn’t hear anything. No mic icon on screen or anything. Logged onto my PC and found the voice chat for destiny was turned off in the voice settings screen.. Turned it to on and logged back into Xbox console and boom…problem solved. Not sure if coincidence but worked for me.

We really need something like in game party chat that doesn’t require you to be in same fireteam for cross play. Most obnoxious thing about crossplay is not really being able to talk with friends unless you play with them or hop on something like discord that most people can use to do so, which sucks because as a console player I don’t want discord open in one place and game in another. Sadly this is an issue for crossplay in all games that no one has solved. I will admit destinys in game chat was better than many others since it seemed to behave during loading screens when others break.

Edited by ImOnlyBleeding: 9/24/2021 12:32:38 PMIn-game voice chat should work already. At least it did a few weeks ago, as I had a VoG run with 2 players each on Steam, XBox, and Playstation. The quality of in-game chat is still not as good as discord or an XBox party (never played on playstation, so I have no basis for comparison there), but it worked fine then. Unfortunately, still no text chat for console, but that was supposed to come later this year.

9 RepliesI thought there wasn't an official way yet... You just had to use discord or another outside service... Am I wrong? Is there an in game way to communicate?
-
True. It worked on day 2 or 3 of its introduction. Just had to be on a fireteam with them, but today I saw a prompt saying that cross play chat was disabled. Not sure what happened.

Edited by Astrosa: 9/24/2021 8:04:48 AMFor Xbox players that go into game chat and hear nothing. The only solution I’ve found is leave the party or go into game chat and restart destiny, but stay in game chat until you join the fireteam. It’s stupid yes but it’s all I got.
I haven’t confirmed that staying in the party and switching to game chat works, I normally just leave party and stuff.
I love that Windows has the Xbox app. For those PC players out there who don't know what I am talking about, press Windows + G (for 'Game bar') to get started. Won't help you communicate with PS players, but PC + Xbox - YES (via XBL party chat).

I believe Xbox is still having issues. But yes.. A clear path to help players know would be very helpful.
