Dear Devs,
You ever heard of that one story about the Scorpion and the Frog? How the scorpion promised he will not sting if the frog gets him across the river, but he stung him anyway—and now, they both will drown?
“The Frog’s Sage.”
Not too many people know about the Drifter’s past. He goes through extensive lengths to derail any clues or full-truth to his life. However, there is one truth that he cannot deny: one summer in the 1970s era of peace and love. The best time of his life with the only best friend he will ever love and know. A bond that happened while traveling with his adoptive ex-military van-life peace loving parents.
Enter Drifter, as a child known as Sage: age 7, skinny as sticks, with strange big long feet, piano fingers, wide eyes, biggest mouth, and exploded bed-head; in brown bandanna hair, shirtless, just wearing blue cloth shorts, no shoes. We SEE him RUNNING. A fallen tree log! He catches a leap of huge air and…
Sage:
“Ha ha ha! Come and catch me Graviton! Ha ha ha! You’ve gotten too fat. Fatty!”
Graviton: multiple eyes with hairy-fur on his back, a fish tail that grew, golden green emerald skin. Every second, the frog grows. Seven seconds in and now the twelve inch frog grew into five feet with a longer body. He’s chasing but…
Sage:
“Whoop! Here. We. Go!”
Sage jumps off from a cliff in Sausalito, Marin County—nowhere to land but the frigid San Francisco Bay!
We HEAR a SPLASH! Down goes Sage slowly enveloped and sinking deeper in the cold water; with a smile, bright wide eyes, as he looks up at the iridescent ocean bubbles floating around and bright warm sunlight’s piercing rays of buoyant shimmer on the surface of life, dividing the light from above against the darkness that slowly grows within the embrace of the ocean’s abyss of below.
Sage:
“Ha ha ha!”
With a victorious raised arm and akin to a god riding a chariot—Sage raises from the depths of the ocean on the back of his best friend. Parting water with ease and incalculable speed.
Sage:
“WHOOOO HOOOO! Go Graviton! Go! Ha ha ha! Yeah!
Graviton:
“Ribbit. Hang on tight Suh-age.”
Graviton is now the size of a fifty-foot yacht similar to most Sausalito yacht club owners.
Graviton stops and floats in the middle of the ocean; as Sage crosses both his legs to sit down, and points at a building on an island.
Sage:
“That’s Alcatraz. Be Notorious, and that’s where the bad guys end up. The most notorious people call that home. Al Capone. Public enemy number one. He was in there 1934. He served seven years, six months, and fifteen days. That was his home.”
Graviton:
“Graviton. Home.”
Sage gently places his hand on Graviton’s back.
Sage:
”Is that where you came from? Is that your home? I… I too… I am not from this world. A man took me here from another dimension. The more I stay here, the more I forget the real face of that man, my memories, and my mom.”
“Sage places his right hand over his brows to avert the sun and gaze further into Alcatraz.”
Sage:
“It gets lonely sometimes. My new parents move around a lot for my safety they said. I miss my old home. You must miss your house too, right?”
Graviton:
“Grah-viton love Sage.”
Sage starts to well with irregular-emotional breathing and held-back tears. Fearing the inevitable thoughts of a beautiful friendship nearing it’s end.
Sage:
“I know Buddy. I’m gonna miss you too. I found you in Muir Woods half-lifeless when I was five, but ever since I turned seven and you turned two years old, you’ve been growing by the second and transforming. I don’t know if I can afford to keep you or where.”
“Sage stands up on Graviton’s back like a soldier in salute. Sage bites the tip of his finger and squeezes a drop of blood on Graviton’s skin—a slight flash occurs, and Sage instantly teleported back to the Sausalito Cliff.”
Sage:
“Don’t eat too much at night Grav. I will… some… I will find you. I will find you someday buddy. In this world, or in countless worlds of Alcatraz.”
Graviton stops to look at his young friend and heads towards Alcatraz. A light beams from the sky followed by a thick haze as Graviton steps foot on Alcatraz: reality in a split-second flashed Alcatraz like a quick light switch unnoticeably dark then back to light.
Sage wipes his mixture of tears with smiles. Forcing out a laugh. Waving with both arms towards Alcatraz, towards a friend that he will truly find again.
