Trials last weekend was great fun with the ability to run multiple cards and enjoy yourself along the way. The new experience this week post flawless however is crazily sweaty and back to the low population days of trials.
I’ll be completely honest I’m a mid skill PvP player with a >50% win rate, but by no means a PvP god or trials sweat.
After really enjoying trials last weekend with an SMG as a drop with it now being a gun I’d really want to drop some serious play time in to get a good roll on the flawless pool feels unobtainable for me to farm 7 win tickets in anywhere near a way that would net me a roll until 2023 or beyond.
I understand protecting a newer player in trails as an experience is important but I certainly feel offering better rewards for lighthouse carries or supporting newer players to the playlist is more rewarding overall rather than creating a toxic sweaty environment for people who have been flawless once. As I’m no longer able to help my friends and clan get their flawlesses as were locked into the flawless playlist past the first card.
I’d love for this to be reviewed and looking at the forums it doesn’t seem like I’m alone. Love to hear some reasons as to why it’s a good thing?
Edited: some suggested ways to improve this.
When you’ve gone flawless for the week, lock the flawless part of the card so you continue to have the option to play on the 7 win card for rolls at the weapon keeping players active post 7 wins, and removing the pain of losses and having to start again with a more difficult experience of going flawless again.
The main pain as a player is being locked out of loot, so this will keep players engaged abs away from 6 win resets to “stomp” on people 5-0.
Another suggestion might be a more Sundial style reward pool for Trials where I can pick my reward for flawless each week allowing me to continue to get the weapon week after week (if we can go flawless) for that chance of a better roll.
Ways the current system can be abused
<Flawless resets, keep in the lower skill player pool and just smash 5-0’s all day for fun.

+1 You're 100% spot on. I'm in the same situation as you. I'm a mid-tier player - flawless pool and freelance are terrible ideas. Can't replay or help friends and clan mates. Go back to the first week! Players who just want easy loot don't understand what trials is about. Players who want freelance don't understand what trials is about.

Problem is, if bungie didnt do anything to solve the solo stomping issue most solo players would F off to freelance or never touch trials again leaving the "current" trials playlist for the sweaty stacks literally rendering your entire set of "issues" worthless because no matter which way it went the outcome would have been the same. Its literally why I cannot fathom why so many flawless players are mad, this would have happened at some point in the next few weeks if bungie simply did nothing and allowed sweaty players to curb stomp solo players to a point they no longer want to touch trials.

4 RepliesSurely you can see this is necessary to avoid going back to the dark days? Trials has always been toxic for the lowest skilled players. So many don't return the following week, the playerbase shrinks and it turns into an unplayable sweatfest. This matchmaking change will make it far more enjoyable for them, giving them increasing chances to do well as the weekend goes on. Doesn't this at least mean we get a far better experience on our first card? Also, for me at least, once I've gone flawless and got my lighthouse loot, I don't mind losing so much. I've found the flawless queue a fun challenge.

1 ReplyThey should just make it once you get 7 consecutive wins either on the card or just in a row it should put them in the flawless pool as it would stop carries restring there card after there 5th/6th match as it wouldn’t stop them from staying out of the flawless pool. And then the light house should just unlock on any seven wins in a row. And also should have it that people 1-50x time flawless 51-150 times flawless and 150+ flawless matchmaking pools mean sweats stay with sweats and newer players starting out arnt versing some with 500x flawless

Totally agree. Bungie messed up a great thing. This weekend hasn't been fun at all

2 RepliesHmm. There has to be some balance. I am involved with trials now with no mic and solo play. I loose a lot and rightfully so. I am bottom of the pvp pool. This is not crucible.players like me should be hammered and maybe scrape some rewards from massive amounts of game play. It’s not about fun,it’s supposed to be a trial. My opinion anyway.

Why can't you carry after getting Flawless? It's a learning experience, you can get better by playing against better players. At least this is what the lower skilled players are told that they can "get good".
-
2 RepliesImagine asking for flawless matchmaking for years only to cry about it when it affects you.
-
2 RepliesI love that the top players are getting stomped. Welcome to our world so stop -blam!- and get good.

I enjoyed playing this weekend. Some good and some -blam!- kickings.

4 RepliesDon't worry abortus it. The streamers are complaining about trails so soon enough Bungie will listen to them. I think the best solution would be to keep a flawless pool, but only when you still have a flawless card. If you exchange the card for a weapon, you should be put back in the "normal" pool. If you stay in the flawless pool, your chance of getting a new adapt weapon should be 50% en rise as long as you win. The really good players can then farm a good roll, and the rest of us can grind wins on tickets.

5 RepliesEdited by Darth Derrr (Defiled): 9/19/2021 1:29:02 PMThis is exactly how I've felt about trials as a "bad" player who will never go flawless, ever. Welcome to the club. Get stomped. What I used to be told seasons past: Get good. Trials is for elite players only, except that most of us want to play it are average ish. Edit: I really like the rewards I'm getting so I hope this sticks around... but matchmaking should be skill based I think.

1 ReplyI’m completely in what you say and moreover th ratio between players who rock at pvp and bad like me is around 80 loots to 1. Let me explain myself, if you lose a match you get nothing except for the reputation (50 btw) by winning a match you get around 4 loots and 100-150 rep. The only way to get a loot when you loose all your matches is by waiting for you to up your rep with saint and get the only engra you can grab. That mean , you’lol have to wait 20 games for 1 loot where the others (the ones who win nearly all their matches) get 4 loots a match being said 80 loot per 20 matches and I’m not even counting the up in reputation That ratio is absolutely abnormal and having NOTHING when you lose is making me not even wanting to go again in Osiris

I’ve been saying this for a while now, every weekend they have two servers. One for accounts that have gone flawless and one for who hasn’t, now when you go flawless just once that weekend you’ll be sent to the other server for that, and then you’ll play other accounts that also have gone flawless, Now when that happens that’s another flawless player gone from the non flawless servers, that will keep on downing the skill level for those who haven’t, making the cards and games more close and more fun because eventually they’ll be playing players at that skill level or a little higher. So they still will have to sweat but it gives them a better experience and more experience than just getting shaxed on every round.

15 RepliesEdited by Crota bin Oryx: 9/19/2021 2:53:55 PMDude, I get what you are saying. You won 7 matches and got 3 pinnacles (50 rounds, 7 wins and lighthouse adept roll). You also got reputation engrams. Now imagine you don't win any match during the weekend becuase you get stomped by 6 reset or flawless players everything with 5-0 loss. A bit extreme, but possible. So, what are the other options. 1. Let the stomping continue and ensure that there is no incentive for a new player to try out trials? 2. Keep flawless pool (current matchmaking) From a business point of view, 1 will be a sale crushers for Bungie. Remember you now need the current DLC to play trials so its not free. Imagine people buying a game and are guaranteed to be stomped in their first match by 6 reset or flawless players. I'm pretty sure Bungie fears this scenario as it won't look good and to be fair it could also lead to bigger trouble in countries like Denmark but let's ignore that. Option 2 discourages carries. I know you mare and I love you and I know that if I ask you to carry me you will bust your balls and try your best to do it ❤❤❤ But honestly, it will be a hollow victory for me as did I deserve it? Do I really feel good showing off that glow which I did not earn? Especially to all the players you stomped for me? I honestly don't and that's why I think this system should stop no matter the cost. As for playing with your friends when you are flawless... its a choice which Bungie will have to make. They have to chose between sweat players fighting it out or tanking the new players who will go back to other pvp games after being stomped in first few matches of trials. Lighthouse should be a privilege which is earned and not handed out. But, it should be a clear path also and not something which is "reserved" for god tiers only. Yes, once you reach that level, fight it out for higher rewards but for that you need a team of gods and not friends like me who beg for a carry.

This is exactly why locking flawless into their own playlist is a good thing. Cry me a river.
-
1 ReplyThey want to stop carries,
-
I'm having the same issue. Feels like once you go Flawless you're locked into playing with your Flawless team.
-
3 RepliesIt isn’t a good thing - while I understand the principle, it stops people playing with friends who haven’t gone flawless when they have been flawless because every game is a horrid experience no one enjoys.
