As an Xbox player, I'm seeing a large subset of PS players that are lagging worse than I've seen since D1, constantly teleporting throughout a match, shooting through walls, nearly unkillable by myself or other Xbox players. Stuff that would normally cause them to drop from bad connections. I'm reading similar complaints from PS players about Xbox players. There is clearly a major issue in the netcode for crossplay and it's making Crucible unbearable at times. Weirdly though, it's not everyone, so I'm not sure if there are certain hardware/network configurations that are causing more problems than others, but players triggering this issue should *not* be allowed into the broad player pool. Friends who have played with PC players also find that to work OK, so it may only be consoles that have this issue.
I love crossplay in PvE and Raids, but crucible needs some serious attention, and may warrant disabling cross-console MM in crucible only until it can be resolved (maybe make it so you can team up but it only prefers one platform similar to console players teaming up with PC - it might mitigate the issues). This could maybe even be taken advantage of next week when trials starts if an unkillable player is identified (this actually used to happen in D1 where someone on a poor connection would be brought in as a decoy)

1 ReplyYup this has been a problem since cross-play. PS5 players say Xbox players cheat and Xbox players say PS5 players cheat but that isn't really what is happening. There is substantial latency for cross-play and even cross-generational. I am a network engineer and have had to deal with escalations about people blaming networks and cheaters when it is really just bad network coding on Bungie's end and a complete lack of dedicated servers. For a AAA title, Bungie really should be ashamed.

Edited by Grimmy: 12/19/2021 6:48:37 AMI am seeing major lag issues with cross play in pvp as well, I was sure it was players on the other team but then I got a message saying I was lagging go figure??? Definitely an issue that needs to be addressed because it is pretty bad, I took multiple video clips of guys teleporting and it is straight blink action.
-
1 ReplyI have also had enough of this. I am a PS5 player and have the same issue with xbox players. If you turn crossplay off you don't get any games.
-
1 ReplyNearly every match when im paired against a playstion player i get destroyed its like they are .5 seconds ahead of me everytime. Im getting 1 tapped by ig hammers or 1 burst messenger or my person favorite mapped by an astral horizon with smooth bore

Crossplay lag is awful and I can't opt out in pvp, thanks.

As an Xbox One player: It cuts both ways… I’ve taken dozens of videos of tracking missiles failing to lock, radar empty then whack someone’s on top of you (not invisible, a Titan or Warlock and checked- no omnioculus on their fireteam), direct hits with rocket launcher barely registering, players appearing out of thin air, shot through walls, players taking damage that would kill a raid boss without a scratch- and from my end it seems to be the PS players getting the best of all this. Considering how much evidence of this problem is now spread across the forums and Reddits, why the f is cross play still active?? And don’t get me started on the Trials matchmaking we will have to endure all this month… Trials, last week, was finally just about playable- still issues of an average player like me matching 1.5+ lifetime kda players (which makes no sense at all…) but some of the matchmaking worked, for once. Now, based on wins and not skill, however many times you reset your card after losses… it matches you progressively harder and harder - the sweatiest I’ve ever seen it… throw in the cross play issues and ye gods… Bungie have their heads up their behinds when it comes to matchmaking. And why in god’s name is cross play still active? Why the hell haven’t we got dedicated servers after so many years of the same problems?? What, the community doesn’t deserve it with the billions upon billions of dollars we have pumped into Bungie’s coffers for almost 5 years?? It is inexcusable that these problems are still here. Lifetime KDA matchmaking- true skills based matchmaking. And dedicated bloody servers! Why the hell not??

1 ReplySwitch off the damned cross play!!! It’s utterly unplayable with so much lag
-
2 RepliesStadia player here. This lag issue is something we never had before cross play, surely because we were playing on the same Google servers. Maybe Bungie should try to find a way to give the host to Google servers instead of giving it to a player? Maybe this way ppl with decent connections will at least not be at a disadvantage..?
-
The issue is lobby hosts. We don’t have dedicated servers. This means that everyone has to connect to a certain lobby hosted by an individual in the game. Whoever that individual is already has an advantage because basically anything that happens from their point of view is what goes. If they come around the corner on their screen and shoot you, you lost the gunfight even if they hadn’t even crossed the doorway yet on your perspective. This was dumb but somewhat manageable before because everyone usually had a pretty okay connection to each other on the same console. Now that the different consoles match each other, the game is being hosted on a totally different console. Naturally, other players on the same console will connect better. Basically what happens is they are about to see you much earlier than you can see them in most gunfights. They have a sight line on you much longer and can kill you before you even started taking damage from your view. This is what happens when you get shot three times in the head by pally through a wall when running out of a gunfight. They already shot those shots seconds ago. Even if you are 5 seconds around a corner, if you are five seconds behind everyone else in the game, they can primary you to death before you even get a sight line on them. Shots won’t register for you because they were already around a corner when you shot them. Basically they can peek you, kill you, and once they kill you run into cover. By the time you see them peek they are actually behind a wall in their perspective and therefore are essentially invincible and it will appear as though they are still shooting at you when really you’re just dead. Sometimes they will have sudden bursts of movement and seem to get places quicker than they should or slightly teleport because your game isn’t keeping up with their position. Anyone on your console will have a severe disadvantage that game. Bungie needs dedicated servers or cross play will not work. If you play a somewhat decent player that is on a different system, they are practically unkillable because of how short their peeks are and it’s really frusterating. Games are rigged from the beginning just because of connection. Full Xbox teams should not be able to match full teams of PlayStation and Vice versa. That way at least there will be someone on the other team that actually takes damage when you shoot him.

2 RepliesJust lost my flawless game to a group of three laggy xbox players so crossplay is staying off for good now latency for xbox players has been an issue the whole time crossplay has been in the game but that was the final straw.
-
As a PC player who plays a massive amount of PvP I've noticed Xbox players have incredible latency issues compared to PS which seems to give them the advantage by either not registering shots on time, getting shot around corners and such. I think bungie needs to let us un-enable crossplay because everytime we match an xbox player (in trials) the match takes 10 minutes to start and they rubber band xD some of these are good players too so it just makes them look bad when they one tap you with ace somehow. Just speaking from experience.

1 ReplyI know your post is old . But i wanted to revisit this problem with a proper amount of time using crossplay . And as a ps4 pro user i have to say that this very well could be a everybody thing . Iv had xplay on and off and it doesnt matter same same. With it on i c the lack of shot reg , late deaths, teleporting thru walls just yesterday in comp. And iv looked the players up to c which consule they are on and i hate to say it but about 90 percent of the time in ps players and i honestly dont know why. But this is just my experience with it and from what iv discover its just better with xplay on and if the matches are screwy im not objectes to people leaving if the game is unplayable. Alot of people get mad about leavers but at the end of the day if they are leaving because they cant land shots and what not because of this issue then no sweat i would to.

i feel like this deserves more attention. as an xbox one x player, its rough. there are times i get shot and the guy who shoots me is mid gun switch animation. i dont know exactly which consoles i match bc i can only tell if its xbox or ps in game( i wish i knew if it were next gen also). im holding out hope it gets better bc PVE wise crossplay has been awesome

Edited by GodScoper: 9/13/2021 2:20:55 PMsame as playing against Xbox players, in trials I'm getting shot behind walls and friends also when only playing against Xbox players. haven't tried with pc players yet same. crossplay in competitive at least for trials so much headache. I'm not bad either have 2.50 k/d in trials, if match other ps players isn't bad but soon match with another system tell delaying and non hit register. also, the need to fix was if the other team lags out and is able to rejoin and lag out a second time needs to stay out of PVP because bug was lagged out the second time and timer stuck at 0:00 at score 3-3. on our flawless card. Bungie needs to fix it at least have trials be able to disable crossplay.
-
2 RepliesI had this same complaint and issue. And personally noticed that when there is a lag or shots not registering 2 out of 3 times it's when I'm playing against Playstation users. And it probably is a mix of bad connection and like another person said cross console coding. But if you turn crossplay off bungie won't give you a match even rumble.
-
1 ReplyFor me console crossplay is fine. When I play with my friend that plays on PC the latency is unreal. Most games I use a bow because nothing else will register.
-
2 RepliesIol I’ve been playing on stadia and haven’t seen any issues surprisingly.
-
3 RepliesAny console player on pc is at best teleporting or at worst immune to damage
-
6 RepliesEdited by YonaRulz: 9/8/2021 6:44:46 AMThis is why I turned crossplay off
-
1 ReplyI'm on PS4 and when I play crucible and there's more than 50% Xbox players, I just leave. It's not worth the latency issues. Trials will be interesting to see witch platform will have the advantage.
-
I shot someone thru the edge of a wall and was like…thats not possible lol
-
1 ReplyI would say the same for Xbox player and Steam players. But it isn't the players or consoles. It is the servers and how they have it set up. Bungie has A LOT of issues at the moment that they are trying to address across the entire game, from RNG to server connection to bugs. Sad to say this but all we can do is let them know and move on. They probably already know about the issue. It will be fixed when they get to it just like anything else in the game. It's all about priority. See you guys in the game.
-
I don’t see it at all from PS players even though I’m an xbox player. In fact, xbox is probably the laggiest platform I’ve seen in crucible.
-
It happens in PvE as well. I never had issues in PvE before crossplay. Now ppl teleport constantly, are invisible etc.
-
2 RepliesYup. I have definitely noticed an increase in rubberbanding and teleporting players. I wish there was an option in the game settings to opt out of crossplay.
-
9 RepliesAnd SBMM would make it worse. Not trying to take over your point OP just wanna throw this point out into the mix.
