Sidearms were always just a decent choice, but were never meta. In this season, they are pretty much useless.
They are at every disadvantage. They only have a few meters of wiggle room before they are within slug distance, and they are always within fusion distance.
The optimal TTK is so unbelievably specific to a certain range, that it only takes one slide for you to be within 1-shot distance.
Sidearm range cap: 18m
Slug shotgun headshot range cap: 11-12m
Fusion rifle range cap: 21m
This means most sidearms have about 5-6 meters of range before they are within slug kill distance...and nearly NONE with most fusions.
In the current sandbox, using a sidearm is essentially gambling with the odds constantly stacked against you. And as a primary, they are currently outclassed by SMG's in every way.

1 ReplyGood. Sidearms suck. Would be happy if they just disappeared. Just my opinion.

4 RepliesHello! I'm an AR nut but decided to mix things up with the Farewell Full Auto (I don't even know what the rest of the perks are) when I got Twilight Gap. I played the stairwells and the platforms and got 15 kills....and I have been rubbish since Forsaken (and loved the now sunset Buzzard)! Just don't ADS on the damn things to keep radar active...I might keep one handy for small maps. Don't knock em Guardian....

1 ReplyI agree with your numbers and against a good shotgun/ fusion user ( or a average player with a god roll ) you will struggle. But the amount of John wick moments you can pull off with a decent side arm is pretty epic! On paper you're right. But once the chaos sets in ( 6's) it's common to fnd people falling out of position, mostly being too close to you with their primary weapon out I find. And then there's the over committed, set on rushing you with a OHK weapon and finding you further away than anticipated. I have a Keening ( 300rpm arc energy) with high range and rapid hit AND zen moment! Regardless of where I hit them I'm getting some or even more stability which really helps with accuracy at range. I'd love a mag size buff more than anything else first. Nothing crazy but often due to some drop off it feels like you have to dump a whole mag into some people. Like you said you're walking a fine line with exposing yourself at close range, often getting a kill at the cost of an empty mag and another shotgun closing in fast.

6 RepliesYou’re comparing a primary to secondaries. I pair a sidearm with a bow and do just fine.

5 RepliesSidearms aren't useless whatsoever. Rather king, travelers chosen, the new strike one... etc all slap. Even tons of sunset ones are good.
