I was eager to try the new feature with my "cold shoulder" layout but it's not working as intended. Once I remapped the auto melee to charged/uncharged, hoping to have it prioritize the charged when available and default to uncharged when not, it seems to only allow the charged melee skill. With the remapping, the enemy distance sensing doesn't come into play when uncharged and I cannot melee at close range. Instead the skill only flashes red, like an empty grenade skill. When the melee is charged, the enemy distance sensing continues to function and will default to the uncharged version in close range. While trying to pinpoint the limits of this bug, I found that you cannot melee during the Behemoth super using this setup. I was able to perform the first part, creating stasis crystals, but not the second part, leaping forward to break them. Once the super ended, I was then able to use my charged melee skill to break my crystals. After I established all of this, I discovered that reverting the button remapping had no effect. In order to remap, you have to change the controller button layout scheme to "custom". I tried to change my scheme back to "cold shoulder" but the issue persisted. I also tried to unbind the charged/uncharged melees and revert to the auto melee function only but the issue persisted. So now I am not able to melee on demand, only when it is charged and I'm only able to use the charged version at the right distance. I can see that this is most likely simple issues with the new updates but hoped I wasn't the only one experiencing them and wanted to make sure u/dmg04 knew to pass it along. Has anyone else had this happen or know of any possible solutions?
That's not how it works:
Charged melee is a new action that will always activate your charged melee ability upon button press, regardless of whether an enemy is in lunge range. Pressing the input when your melee ability is not fully charged will perform no action and cause the melee-ability icon to flash red, similar to how the grenade ability works. [...] If you assign charged melee and uncharged melee to the same input, it will always prioritize the charged melee over the uncharged melee, which is the opposite behavior of the auto-melee action. Players can reset the custom layout or clear the mapping for "Charged Melee" to fix this issue. 10/14
https://twitter.com/BungieHelp/status/1430637104447451138
