Ok, I’m coming out to say this because I have heard SO many people whining and complaining about this one since the TWAB announced it.
THIS NEEDED TO BE DONE! Right here, right now, AS A WHOLE!
Bungie thought about this in the stance of tackling it a a whole to avoid one very obvious problem that apparently a lot of you refuse to realize.
If they nerfed the slide effectiveness of ONLY shotguns, guess what people would do. MOVE ONTO THE NEXT SLIDE META! Then the next and the next and the next, until there would be no more weapon types to fix and y’all sit there and cry for them to start fixing the weapons. This would also take a long time, lot of feedback, and a lot of gripe that honestly no one wants to listen to.
Believe it or not but that is exactly how this community acts, hell a lot of communities act. The current meta gets nerfed so they move on to the next.
So I’m happy that they took care of this now instead of fighting the problem over time.
Sliding should’ve been mainly a maneuver option in the heat of combat, being able to cross a brief opening into cover and in a last ditch effort close the distance for a kill to survive. It shouldn’t have been a go to combat tactic to use in every single freakin engagement.
So the nerf feels great to hear, think about it there is no way sliding in what would technically be an unstable position should allow you to be so accurate.

Oh boo hoo shotguns aren’t steam rolling everything in crucible now so all the shotgun newbs who can’t use anything else is gonna cry about it. Why don’t you write a few more pages on how you can’t use anything else in this game?

1 ReplyI personally thought the sliding nerf was needed, don’t think it’s as much a skill gap as people say. People crutched the shit out of it and abused sliding

1 ReplyLast word/ Sniper meta incoming

6 RepliesNo other game has such an overly used movement ability that you can constantly spam for literally no down side. So yes, it truly makes sense!

Well obviously people will move onto the next meta if it exists. Thing is, the meta should be fun, and metas can be fun, but a lot of the time they aren’t, and they should also have a lot of options in them. Imagine if the meta included a weapon from every weapon class, maybe even more than that? It’d be a lot cooler because you’d have different play styles. Changing the meta is also nice because it serves as a refresher, even if the new one isn’t good as well. At least it changes things up I guess..

I feel like sliding is meant to be an evasive technique, not an offensive one. Bungie has a history of making changes to force players to use the tools given as they were intended to be used. This change should come as absolute zero surprise

11 RepliesEdited by Sohsuh: 8/24/2021 1:46:10 AMEvery fps game has sliding. You slide to get around corners and shrink your target. You are trying to make it more difficult for your opponent by utilizing the movement the game offers you. There doesn’t need to be a downside. You slide in every other fps game without a penalty. CoD is full of sliding. Battlefield you can slide around like you're on ice skates! This is just a change for people who don’t utilize the slide in their arsenal. People who never figured out how to use it to it’s full benefit. People who want to just stand still and fire their gun. It's a terrible change. There was no need at all to nerf stability and add flinch. They are shrinking the skill gap because people can't utilize the slide. You can't just waltz into the game and understand how to use slide properly. It's about more than just sliding. It's when to use it, as well as understanding how far you can slide, and where to use it to gain the most from it. Now Bungie threw that all out the window. I am only an average player, and I was enjoying getting better at utilizing the slide. I can't use it like great players, because it takes skill to use it at their level. You think any player can slide perfectly to an angle with his sniper rifle out, and hit that head shot while barely peaking around the corner? I mean jesus. It's a movement ability that takes time to learn how to use in the best way. A movement ability that takes a lot of practice and understanding of where to use it and when to use it, to understand the length you slide and time it properly, etc. Nerfing that is most def closing the skill gap. Sliding at the right time can be very effective, but again, it's not simple and easy to use it in such an effective way. There's skill involved in that, so nerfing it is ridiculous.

5 Replieslol that’s funny “slide meta” you guys are too funny. This totally skill-less maneuver yes it’s so broken and Op but you can’t do it yourself apparently so it must be nerfed. You’re getting more range fusions just be happy. There’s literally no other FPS has stat penalties to sliding this is a stupid change to dumb down movement for every casual complaining

2 RepliesI think a couple of reasons. First, I think due to cross-play, Bungie wants to level the playing field. Sliding on PC with a mouse and keyboard is way easier than doing so on console with controller. Second, I think Bungie is trying to slightly slow down the flow of games. Changes like the nerf to slide shooting mixed in with the remove of three peaking will completely change the flow of the gameplay in PvP for the better.

1 Replysliding and jumping/flying around is garbage

1 ReplyAlso, I think slide should randomly do that thing where you go in for the skid but you grip instead of slip! Thus comically going arse over tit!
-
6 RepliesIMO it creates more of a skill gap. Good players will adjust to the stability/flinch. You will still see sliding. Double unflinching and other sliding perks that boost stability will also be used more.
-
It is so engrained in most players that you won't see much change for a while. Some will probably always do it after using it for so long.

1 ReplyYeah they did an address Shatter dive with glacial grenade I’m a hunter main and I’ll say it’s completely broken

I agree. I understand the reasoning behind the changes to slide. There were East silly no drawbacks to sliding. It took you off radar, made you a harder target to hit, and allowed for abusive shotgun plays. I don’t mean strong, I mean abusive. I’m curious to see where things go from here

Pretty much every modern shooter has sliding as an option... However, this was done to deal with PC players as it's way easier for them to do this than on console.
-
But the funny thing is that it will hardly change anything on pc, slide sniping won't be viable anymore but sliding out with primaries will not be affected much I don't think
