How to behave in Destiny. A guide for beginners .. #Satire

Having played the game a bit there are an awful lot of new players who seem to be unaware of the rules of just how to behave in game. I am not talking about how to play the game, its all about how to behave with your fellow Guardians. Recently I was playing Vanguard Strikes and was matched up with two 1140 players on a Nessus Strike, the Inverted Spire. They were clearly new and so I took my time as a 1335 and showed them the way as I helped them through it. We worked as a team and after it was over one of the players messaged me to say thanks and would I mind grinding a few more with them. It was polite, courteous and I ended up helping them a bit with some of the Beyond Light story etc etc. Nice bloke. But these new guys clearly need to get up to speed to compete with the legions of awesomeness that make up the Destiny player base. So I thought I would just throw down some random thoughts that may help new players reach the dizzy heights of the rest of us when it comes to playing with fellow Guardians. First up .. Strikes. These are three player activities where you work as a team to defeat enemies and a Boss so you can get some blue gear that you will dismantle right way. When you load in look around, if you can disappear off and do some public events (more on them later) while leaving your team mates to do the strike for you then crack on with that. They don't mind. Then when your team mates are in front of you pull out your sparrow and run them over. No one has EVER done that before and it'll be hilarious. Trust me. As you progress through you can approach the strike one of two ways. One .. Spread out and take separate lanes and paths if possible to ensure co-ordinated arcs of fire and a combined approach to getting the strike done quickly and efficiently. Two .. Just run in front of your team mates at every opportunity and if you go through a door in front of them, then back out of it right away while running around in a figure of eight pattern getting in their way at every opportunity, this is the way to go. This figure of eight pattern is VERY important for a lot of activities so get it down pat right away. You will also encounter plates in certain strikes that you have to stand on to progress. These can be approached in three ways. One .. stand in the plate with one on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right to ensure all arcs of fire are covered. Two .. Just don't stand on the plate and let your team mates do it after you ignore the fact that you need to use Ghost to activate it. Three .. Just stand on it after making sure one of your team mates has to activate it and run around like you have been holding in a wee for six hours getting in each others way. Obviously three is the way to go here. Now, at the end of the strike where you get your *sniggers* loot always jump up and stand on the chest as when your team mates get their loot it looks like they are doing naughty things to you. Now if you have a mental age that's anywhere north of two this is not the way to go. So that's everyone but the Hunters then. So .. that's strikes. Nightfalls .. These are like grown up strikes with things like Champions of the Barrier and Overload variety that can be countered with different Mods. Just behave as you would in a normal strike with these additions .. You, obviously, don't need to go through matching these up and making sure you have the right weapons for the Nightfall. That's for your team mates. Just rock up with your Trials fit and crack on, it will be fine. Remember to run them over with the sparrow at the beginning and also get in their way all the time, its up to them to get out of your way and be aware of where you are remember. Get good enough at these and you may even get high enough to do a Grandmaster Nightfall where, after fighting through some of the toughest enemies in the game you aren't even guaranteed an Adept weapon drop. Fantastic. Public Events .. These are small events on destinations where you can get some rubbish loot. These can be made Heroic by shooting down the ship, killing all the Captains etc etc so you can get slightly more rubbish loot for your efforts. There may be an area you have to stand in. Ignore this. Just disappear off into the scenery because its the job of whoever else if there to do all that. And remember to berate them if they don't make it heroic for you. Also, don't try and get Guardians there to join you in that expensive emote you just bought. Its over man, they've gone. Oh, and there is an unwritten rule that when doing public events on the Tangled Shore you must NEVER make that event go heroic. Rumour has it that if it were to happen the mice running the wheel that powers the servers will drop dead on the spot and we'll all be back on The Division .. *shudders* Raids .. I don't raid for two reasons. One It seems like a lot of work just to be screwed over by RNG. And two, having seen three Guardians seemingly incapable of not getting in each others way I am not up for two hours of trying to get them to co-ordinate complex tasks. Crucible .. Again I don't play Crucible because I don't hate myself. People say that all three classes are viable in the Crucible and they are right. It doesn't matter whether you run Arc, Void or Solar on your Hunter. They're all good as you hand cannon and slide shotgun around. I have especially high regard for those Hunters who run tethers in Mayhem. Salt of the Earth. But if you do decide to play Crucible and feel you need a break from the endless variety of maps and modes there is always Iron Banner. Iron Banner is .. you know what, I cant. If you play Iron Banner you are clearly a masochist. Get help. But worry not, if you are looking for a break from Crucible and some easy kills there is always Gambit. Ah, Gambit. Gambit .. Gambit is a mode set in twin arenas where both teams compete against each other to bank enough motes to summon a Bullet Sponge, sorry Primevil, that you then kill for a miniscule chance of that god roll Bottom Dollar you crave for the Crucible. The way to play the game is to work with your team mates to gather motes and bank them for blockers to stop the team in the other arena getting their Bullet Sponge, sorry Primevil, first. Blockers are at 5, 10 and 15 motes. Working together you can bank large blockers to stop the team while progressing, three will even drain motes to your bank, and win the game. Its important here to make sure that if you have say 6 motes and there are two on the ground and your team mate has eight motes and needs those two for a 10 mote blocker what do you do ?? .. That's right. Take the motes and stuff your team mate. The loser. Just run around again getting in everyone's way not caring a jot about helping your team mates or making sure the player needing motes for his 15 blocker doesn't get them and victory will surely be yours. Now Gambit also has Invaders. These are people who have taken a few minutes out of the Crucible to let the self loathing subside and get some easy kills. Being killed by one makes you lose your motes or puts health on the Primevil. They have a massive over shield and more health than a Gorilla that's just eaten the contents of a banana truck. Now clearly the way to deal with them is to separate and head for a corner of the map each. That way he can only target one of you. When you then spot him all turn on him and wipe him out. Yeah right. That's for losers. What you do is stand out in the open making it easy for him and then, when he snipes you from four hours away as you run around in a figure of eight in front of your team mates, thus making it easy for him to get a multi kill .. shout at your team mates. If you can couple this with also not killing the Envoys who are clearly marked with big red markers for some reason, while shooting the Primevil and wasting ammo .. you my friend are a Gambit God. Blind Well .. Like Gambit but make sure you rock up with no Tier 3 charges, Unstable of charges of light and an Oracle bounty you need to complete. Then make rude emotes when your inconsiderate team mates don't fire up two heroic runs for you. I did forget to cover Dungeons but I cant really face them after a best forgotten night in Amsterdam. Have fun out there Guardian.

  • I'd like to instruct new players on how to raid, if I may. First off, mic is not needed. Any group that says you need a mic... they don't know what they're doing. If you decide you want to use one anyway just make sure it's a little too quiet or muffled (so you can hear the game) and that you have a smoke alarm chirping in the background. The chirp let's other players know you're still there and ready to rock. Second, know the lingo. KWTD = knowingly won't track data (means its a fun-run raid and all are welcome) LFG = learn from Goosebumps (The children's scary book series, self explanatory) DPS = don't punish silliness (Another term for a fun-run raid) These few terms really show how light hearted the raiding community is. Finally, whatever you do, always remember that usually 2 or 3 people in your raid group are bots placed by Bungie to inflate play time. They might sound like real people but they're not.

    • Do people not like when others stand on the strike chests? I've always done it just so I don't have to run around and collect the glimmer and mats. Just curious as I'm really dense sometimes lol

    • Playing Crucible is only a good idea if either (A) you have the fine motor skills of a surgeon and a reaction time best measured in microseconds. Or (B) you're the sort of person who would batter his own kneecaps with a ball peen hammer... but it's not painful enough.
