My games are so weird. Not trying to be boastful here whatsoever, but lately my games are either 50 kills in control, or near bottom of leaderboard. It’s so half and half. I want to work to become one of the greats lol. Please no negative or toxic comments about the state of pvp either

Record your gameplay - good and bad - and then see where you’re making your mistakes and what you’re doing good. This sounds like nothing but it really does help.

2 RepliesBest thing i've found is to take a build into PVE and practice til it becomes second nature. It's not the best cause AI can only do so much against the player, but it does help a bit.
-
I don't know it sounds like you're already pretty good if you're pulling down 50 kills per match.... Best I have ever done was maybe 30... On average about 15 to 20.
-
Yeah, play any other shooter lol
-
Play a game that's pvp base. Pvp in this game is trash

Edited by Hawpy: 8/3/2021 5:34:38 PMSome quick-fire tips - go all-in on Targeting, Unflinching, Scavenger and Dexterity/Loader mods - movement is the most powerful tool at your disposal, so Exotics and abilities that boost it are always top tier - don't play for kills, focus on staying alive; greed will get you killed more often than not - Recovery and Intellect are the key stats; Recovery lets you get back in the fights faster and Intellect means more Supers which mean more easy kills (they're also the most expensive mods to slot, so high natural rolls on your armour are extra valuable) - stay with your team whenever reasonably possible; if your spawns get switched or whatever and you're separated, make a beeline for them - get familiar with your weapons, develop a feel for their recoil and effective ranges, as well as optimal times-to-kill and the precision rate you need in order to meet them - Recoil Direction values ending in 5 are more vertical and thus more predictable, higher numbers are easier to control - Counterbalance Stock adds 15, Adept CB adds 25 (but reduces Range), Extended Barrel and Chambered Compensator add 10 and Arrowhead Brake adds 30 - Range may be the appealing stat on most meta guns, but don't disrespect Stability - aside from recoil, it also affects how much Aim Assist is lost from sustained firing - this is partly why high Stability Hand Cannons like Palindrome and Hawkmoon feel so consistent - try to incorporate some variety into your loadouts; no need to change every match or anything, but being able to use different weapon types means you can swap in order to counter the opposing team with much greater ease; you will also be able to adapt faster to new metas

2 RepliesGo into private matches to learn names of map locations (name is on the left side of screen), good for callouts when you play in a team. That can help with map knowledge and then you can also practice jumps and how to travel around the map. Playing in the mornings can be easier than in the evenings. My favorite is weekend mornings. Using meta weapons and a strong offensive super definitely helps. Use what works, use want Bungie gives you that is strong and don't mind what people say about "cheap" weapons. Take what's yours! If you cant find good people in LFG to play with, its probably because their skill level is better than yours (no offense meant), I also run into this issue. I have an approximate 1.2 KD and 1.7 KDA. I try to use solo matchmaking help me find friends. If you play some matches and you like one or two people you played with, send them a "GG" good game, and ask if they would like to party up and play together. Why I think this is a good idea, Bungie matched you up with them, they probably have a similar skill level and are in a similar spot in grinding glory. Use bonus points to your advantage. If you play 3 games a week, you can get a 120 glory bonus. If you play all 12 weeks, that’s 1440 free points. You only need 660 points to get to fabled. Practice in Rumble or QP new weapons and supers Practice in Rumble your one on one skills. If you cant kill one person by yourself, it will be much harder for you to help out your team. Maybe invite other people you see struggling in PvP and invite them to play private matches and work on one on one skills or 4 vs 4 or whatever. Grow together. Probably common knowledge, If you are the only one with a super, that can be a great time to use yours. No one around to counter you easily with a super of their own. Also you start generating orbs for your team mates so they can get their supers going. Watch Youtube strategy videos from Coolguy, True Vanguard, CammyCakes, Aztecross Gaming. Some of these guys even have their own Discord channels where you can LFG with their fans. I had good success with Coolguys. Some videos to improve game play. https://youtu.be/74e3mByi0d0 https://youtu.be/Be3RwVKO-Go https://youtu.be/sHqiawMXHtI https://youtu.be/3lkQ5ovg4t4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3RXO22ct2w https://youtu.be/hRrLSbizeKk https://youtu.be/oEqrWYQMoAM Super Mods, weapon scavenger perks, targeting Mods, Reload Mods, Dexterity and resilience Mods. Masterwork armor for more defense while in super form. On console, I use jumper controls. It allows me to punch and jump without having to take my thumb off of the look stick (practice new controls in pve, try doing a jumping punch (or shotgun) on someone's head). I also use an Elite controller, it allows me to put a button on the bottom of the controller so I can crouch or slide without taking my thumbs off the sticks. I recently started putting a button under the controller for the action button so I can shoot while I revive or disactivate a bomb and not be a sitting duck. The elite controller allows me to play other games and make the button layout identical to destiny so my buttons don't get mixed up in my head.

Turn off rumble Get a controller with map able back paddles Play the metagame Min/max armor and weapon stats Memorize the approaches on every map, especially the garbage ones No, I'm not the best at pvp, but this is crap I've noticed other people who are good do, or has helped me improve marginally in certain areas.

8 RepliesI’m not very good, I’ve been playing a long time and I have progressed very slowly. I’m also very inconsistent and the matchmaking at the moment seems to be expecting more of me than I can deliver. I try and follow the advice some of the posters have put on already but I can’t say I do a lot of the time. Maybe I can give you advice on the things I get angry with myself for doing. 1. Standing still. I do this a lot, no idea why. Don’t stand still, move. Always move. 2. Standing still while in a gunfight. I then wonder why I lose so many. 3. Pushing too hard. Radar shows one cheese, I dash round to “surprise” a lone guardian and find 3 waiting. 4. Swapping my load out nearly every match. I get bored with using one set of weapons, but I’m then taking half the match to get used to the new gear. I use fusions a lot and swap them constantly. It’s stupid, I just get used to the charge time, range and spread of one then I pick another. 5. Constantly trying to use weapons I just don’t get on with simply because they are “meta”. I can’t use 120 hand canons but felt obliged to keep trying with them. Same with snipers. 6. Constantly not using weapons specifically because they are meta eg. Shotguns. I’m okay with them but hate them - it makes no sense. Likewise I refused to use Gnawing Hunger or Hard Light when they ruled. I’m an idiot. 7. Playing when I’m really tired and wondering why my reactions are terrible. I am nearly 60 and when I’m tired it really affects how I play. 8. Forgetting some of the basics of how the game works. Eg. you can slide through a Titan’s shield without taking damage, eg. combo kills, melee people , I panic and forget I can punch or throw some shit at people with low health and kill them. Swapping weapons, the list is long. 9. Not wearing my glasses and wondering why I can’t see guardians that are shooting me (this one may not apply to you). What does work for me is playing a bit of 3v3 and Rumble, then trying 6v6. 3v3 can really help me focus and, as a few people have said, rumble is good practice for 1v1 gunfights. I think I’m a hopeless case, but every now and then I get lucky.

If your aim is bad, I would recommend to start using hcs everywhere. It will help you learn the recoil and how to actually properly aim them. When you go back into pvp you will notice a difference.
-
MEMORIZE YOUR CLASS!!! Many players forget about this so easily! Titans are good at putting pressure on choke points, hunters are good at flanking and warlocks are able to push at the choke point, memorize this and use it to your advantage!

Match making just really bad at the moment

Lane next to cover. Know your exits, have more than one. Two or three if possible.

4 RepliesEdited by Gilzilla Angry: 8/3/2021 3:43:11 AMI am terrible at crucible, but thats mostly because of age and nerve damage, so take these for what they're worth... As a matter of fact, anyone is more than welcome to correct me here-- maybe you can show me what I'm doing wrong! (I am a solo player, otherwise, move- shoot- communicate would be my number one.) Anyway, here's the top five that I try to work on: 1. Think COVER-TEAM constantly, ie. look for COVER immediately, then try to support your TEAM by flanking or trying to get 2v1 engagements 2. Spend 75% of playing time (in all activities) with your same crucible loadout. 3. Memorize every detail that you can about each map. Usually the one who knows his environment better, pre-aims and pre-fires will win. 4. Controlling the range of your engagement, to tailor to your equipped weapon, is everything 5. Be able to stagger side-to-side while keeping your reticule on target. And, uuuhh, 6... Work on improving only one thing at a time.

2 RepliesGo into pvp, and instead of using your abilities and super to get kills, focus on you weapon skill and map awareness. The supers and abilities come easier than actual gun skill. Find a load out you like and go from there.
-
1 ReplyYes stop taking it seriously and just have fun Even if means doing stupid crap like oh I don’t know Messaging the entire team and other team and having a emote party center of the map

Play a lot of rumble. Learning the basics of 1v1 engagements are the fundamentals to lead to good team chemistry. Focus on three things when playing. 1. Positioning (staying near cover at all times if possible 2. Play the peek a boo Strat (mix up how you approach like one time rush cover to cover then next bait a door was then keep that at arms reach) [More on this https://youtu.be/wmgig_42A80 ] 3. Learn to overcome tilt (rage & complaining) to keep you head in the game. Also play your way don’t let other tell you what’s Cheesy or not. Play to have fun 4. Mastery of a gun/loadout (it takes roughly 100 games of rumble to truly understand a gun/load out potential 5. Be respectful. Be humble in defeat and victory. You’ll be surprised how many top players are chill dudes just wanting to game and vibe. I’ve met my friends like this back in d1 and are still rocking PvP today. It’s beautiful
-
Sadly the only way to improve is to get good. Just have to play every available second you can to learn maps and different strafe set ups. Find the most common choke points used. Find the subclass and guns that fit your playstyle. Just keep playing.
-
1 ReplyI mean if you’re capable of dropping a 50 and yet sometimes you find yourself bottom in other matches, it sounds like you biggest problem is adapting to certain play styles. I always start out matches with a preferred loadout (although I actually like to use whatever I feel like using a lot of the time) and if it’s not going well I change it up along with my play style to adapt to what I’m facing.
-
3 RepliesPlay on hunter, they are OP and rarely get nerfed as they are Bungies golden children.
-
Someone probably will say this but playing more pvp games other than destiny Will make you better. My kids started with destiny and were OK. They moved to other toxic pvp only games of this generational now they rock at 2+ kd whenever they play destiny. I saw one of mine doing 1v3 in comp the other day and got a decent score. It's about awareness and reflex and cya (cover your ass)... and once you develop this it will get better.
