Since they don't improve crucible we complain and people tell us to not play it. The problem is we can't cause certain rewards/quests/bounties ect are locked behind said crucible. Just like raids/strikes/gambit/trials and so on.
I'll share my issues with it.
1. It's wildly unbalanced. I know this is part of the "allure" for the long time players, but it's disheartening to new players. Especially when anything "good" is dropped by random chance. Which means, you're not "competitive ready" or even "crucible ready" until you've dumped hundreds of hours into the game to get gear that drops that even makes you remotely useful in a match.
2. It's a fast-paced movement based shooter. Why does Radar or instant-kill Supers exist in the PvP environment? If the game is about movement, then having a radar really just pushes everyone into fighting constantly. That radar removes any semblance of strategy or positioning in the game. The Supers, likewise, are "instant win" buttons that most players use as "get a free kill" or "emergency win" buttons. That is, they pop them just to get an easy kill on a single player, or pop them to get the "invincibility" it offers as well as the "overshield charge" they seem to get immediately upon execution of it. It uh... breaks the flow of the game. It's uh... near uncounterable... and uh... doesn't feel good to die by. It feels like you were killed by a cheater most of the time. If your deaths feel "unfair", then the method by which they feel unfair should be removed.
Heck, at this point, I'd settle for a "Hardcore" playlist where Radars and Supers are freakin' Removed entirely. Maybe then, we could have some tactical and fun gameplay with actual skill and surprises involved.
3. Map design. Map design is terrible for PvP in this game. Why is a shooter using MOBA map design? MOBA map design ONLY WORKS for MOBAs. Seriously, go back to Halo map design. Halo Map design was some of the best in the industry. Anyone remember Lockout from Halo 2? Why doesn't Destiny have any maps as memorable and clamored for as that one? Oh, that's right, because they decided to forgo basic shooter map design in their "Game Dev 101" classes.
What is the standard map design for shooters?
4 ways minimum into every single room in order to prevent teams from obtaining "easy lockdown". 6 methods minimum to cross from one end of the map to the other with preferred routes for specific purposes (a sneaky route, a route where you aren't likely to encounter snipers, fast routes for players looking for immediate action, routes you want to control to limit the other teams map control, etcetera). Hallways should have a minimum of 3 exits to keep them from becoming "killing fields". If they don't have 3 exits, they should have sightlines broken up twists and turns or alcoves or something.
4. Why is there no verticality in the maps in this game? Why is every single map flat as a pancake? Why aren't there top floors, bottom floors, middle floors? In a game about mobility and having double jumps and glides and triple jumps and high jumps... there aren't a lot of places to use these things. Why not? There aren't even "clever uses" of the map based around these movement methods like Halo 2 had with Lockout (remember all the tricks you could pull off to traverse that map if you'd mastered duck jumping?). Instead, you just have random ledges slightly higher than regular jumps so you HAVE to double jump to use them. These ledges rarely even offer strategic value to the map.
5. Maps are too small. Why are these maps so tiny? It's 4v4 game modes slammed into maps that would cater to 2v2 matches much better. What is going on here? The maps are so small that you're literally back into a firefight after respawning every 2 seconds. Maybe some people find that enjoyable... but the vast majority of players don't... which is why nobody plays Crucible.
6. "overwhelming odds" happens too often. That is, you get 2v1'd or 3v1'd or 4v1'd too often. There's not even a counter to it. The map design lends itself to playing like this too much. Well, map design and...
7. TTK is way too low. TTK, for those unfamiliar with the term: Time To Kill. Most fights end in 1 or 2 seconds. Someone rounds the corner, pops two hand cannon shots into you and you're done. No chance to act or react. If you're ever shot in the back, you're just dead. No hope of retaliation. Because of this low TTK, everyone travels "in groups" unless they've got an uber powerful weapon that kills in one or two shots. Why? Because you're going to be ineffective in the match unless you've got a second or third person to shoot with you and kill someone faster. Or, at the very least, finish off the kill after they've killed you. The punching needs to be reworked as a result of this TTK as well. 2 melees (even uncharged) should not kill another player. A single charged melee should kill a player if it connects, regardless of health. An uncharged melee should do very little damage to prevent "melee spammers".
Now, I get that some guns should kill instantly. Shotguns at point blank range... power weapons like rockets... things of that nature. But, to have other weapons kill that quickly... kind of destroys any tactics or strategy for the game. Most matches just devolve into ADD rush fests where the bad team keeps feeding the good team and the gameplay never changes. In fact, this low TTK kind of ensures every map plays exactly the same... and every match on that map plays exactly the same. This is only fun for small children or adults who just seek "adrenaline rushes". Namely, your typical "Battle Royale" player.
And, let's be honest here... few people actually want to be known that they play "Battle Royale" games.
Especially since they're so easily broken with the basic tenant of "just don't engage anyone in combat until it's down to the last team". How do you win Battle Royale games? Never engage in combat unless you have to. How do most people who enjoy Battle Royale games play them? Engage in all combat as often as possible and hope they win because "need mah adrenaline fix!".
Gameplay in Crucible should not be "Berserker Rush" gameplay. Such gameplay only caters to an exceptionally tiny minority of players. Most players, especially adults, like their gameplay a bit more cerebral and SKILL BASED.
8. Not enough game modes. Look, I'm sorry... I want me some Capture the Flag. I want me some "deliver the bomb". I want me some "sabotage the MComs" from Battlefield. Killing is all well and good... But, we could use something a bit more substantial in here. We could use some maps that cater more towards these objective gametypes. I'm tired of every game mode being, "just kill each other". Even Call of Duty and Battlefield have the good sense to vary up their gameplay to make "killing each other" interesting.
The trick to enjoying pvp is playing to troll
Just sit in the middle of the map with a rocket launcher pointed at your feet wait for the enemy team to come running at you
Then blow yourself and then up lol
In all seriousness it’s best not to take pvp seriously its more enjoyable when just playing to do stupid antics and mess around with friends
Stats are just meaningless numbers I don’t even pay attention to them
I mean this isn’t a esports game so do your stats even truly matter ?
Hell you can even message the other team and have a emote party in the center of the map
Big problem I’m having lately are so many matches where there just seems to be way more enemies than just the 6 in quickplay. Too many matches where there is zero breathing room and another enemy right on top of me after every gunfight.
Its really bad. The hand holding and mismatched games is getting ridiculous. Not to mention getting chased around the map by the same 3 people nonstop. Just stupid and annoying.
Poor map design, poor rewards, weak matchmaking, boring modes, and lack of class balance. Yeah, I would say that PvP definitely has some problems.
A lot of it could be solved by better map design. The current maps are mostly the same and favor the same old dead play style since D2 lumbered into our lives. Shotgun rushing and hand cannons. The Crucible just lacks variety in this area. It's by design, of course, to make it easier on Bungie's devs for "balancing" weapons.
Something specific you wanna point out? Calling it bad, with no further context doesn’t help. I’ll cross off the few I’ve heard multiple times, such as;
• new PvP maps
• new PvP modes
• hunter stasis (aka shatter dive)
• grenade launchers
• chaperone + ace of spades
• top tree dawn
• chaos reach
• titan crystal spamming
• special ammo frequency / snowballing
• account recovs / cheaters
And a lot of that is a stretch. You wanna be upset, that’s your right. But not everything is Bungie’s fault. Sometimes you Just Need To Practice.
Haven’t played in a while. First game back I’m matched up against a 6 stack. I had a 2.1 kd that game, nobody on my team could barely break 1.0. That was the last game I played. Quick reminder of how trash it is. I just can’t.
For this season I had like a 2.8 kd with under 10% win rate. Imagine.
Feedback on gameplay
Iron banner - first two matches both mercy losses.
You have a valid complaint because nothing has changed as it was supposed to improve.
Ok, three in a row but that’s ok because they are going to find a better match! LOL
Our whole team had 3 under zone advantage vs 24 for them! The hunt was our zero vs their 14.
Are the California programmers all high? Sorry, separate issue.
You could just quit playing D2 all together. That's what I did, but I enjoy trolling the forums watching people complain how bad this game is.
Bungie needs to loose mass amounts of the player base, and maybe then they'll get their crap together.
U would think they would’ve learned their lesson the first time they listened to ppl who recommended double primary or when we had to sunset weapons because all the top players was using not forgotten and mountaintop. But nope! That’s bungie for ya, just the classic case of the rich getting richer, while they oppress everyone else with their riches. Lol and to add salt on the wound they listened to them again and took away sbmm so they can have some relaxed games, roflmao. Bravo bungie!
