Ability kills in IB is a crappy bounty

How are we supposed to get ability kills in IB when "SBMM" in freelance constantly yields mercies? Twice in a row now, by the time I get my super, game over. The bounty is an insane amount of time investment for very little reward. I could run VoG three times and still not complete this bounty in that time.

    Ironic. "Too much ability spam" but its hard to complete ability bounties. Which is it?

      • ☝️ This. So much this I could cry. How am I to get ability kills when the [b][i]majority[/i][/b] of IB matches are mercies and a game played to completion is rare? Here's some memberberries- back in D1 when all of my bounties had been completed and turned in on all four characters I would continue to play [b]FOR THE FUN OF IT.[/b] Now when I'm done with bounties, sometimes only one or two characters... I'm outta there. And I feel like I don't want to touch anything PvP for a month... around the time IB returns. Such a shame...

      • Iron Banner is just a mess. You are at such a disadvantage if you're light is not GM type high. Its just a painful grind to get the rewards that put you up a level. Supers popping every few seconds and spawn points where you're killed immediately. This is supposed to be a fun Event and it's the total opposite.

        • This one can be a little challenging. Not only should Bungie adjusts this one, they should also add daily bounties with focused engrams. As of now, the rewards are a letdown. For instance, I'm rarely seeing the new shotty and I'm kind of mad about it.

        • i actually struggle with the bounty that gets progressed faster by special/heavy kills. I am usually using kinetics. I usually have to pull out the jotunn to get that one done fast.

        • Titans and hunters have it easy. Warlocks have handheld super nova and getting lucky with top tree arc chaining grenades or melees

          • Of course you won’t complete the bounty by running VoG 3 times. That bounty has to be completed in IB.

            Yeah, last season I got all my bounties [b]and[/b] the seasonal quest done within 5 matches. Now, I'm not sure if I just hallucinated the whole thing. [spoiler]Then again, I [i]was [/i]crutching pretty hard on Stasis and DMT (which were completely overpowered back then), so maybe that's the difference[/spoiler]

          • What's crappy is any IB bounty that literally punishes you for being higher light in a game mode where light matters. It's asinine.

          • I am playing Crucible for the first time in D2 and only Iron Banner. I am under powered and getting ability kills are nigh impossible. I tried using the magnetic grenade that explodes twice - nothing. Punching - never happens. A high level player looks my way - I crumple.

            All Freelance modes are still CBMM. This is why you are getting matched against teams with players rocking Unbroken and Flawless titles. They removed SBMM a while back when the sweatlords and try-hards started complaining that every match they were playing was mega sweaty. Personally speaking I think that all Freelance modes should be SBMM whilst the normal modes, which would allow Fireteams, would remain CBMM. This would give lower skilled players a place where they could improve. However this would probably see a lot of highly skilled players raging that they can no longer farm noobs in Freelance and are, God forbid, forced to play against players of their own calibre. Suffice to say many of them would probably start massaging their kd's so that they could resume farming lower skilled players and give themselves the ego boost that they so desperately crave.

            • I suck big time and struggle with this bounty on my main, a titan and my warlock. But on my hunter, who I'm pretty sure I'm never going to get the hang of I'm lucky if I get 1% a game and it's destroying me 😞

            • For me, there's always that one IB bounty that just takes far longer than the other three. And lately it's been the ability kill one.

              • [quote]How are we supposed to get ability kills in IB when "SBMM" [u][b][i]in freelance[/i] [/b][/u]constantly yields mercies?[/quote] That is what i believe tye problem is, i get hell a lot more kills/wins in regular bannana, then i do in freelance, mainly, because all the ego inflated meta/exotic abusers flock to that playlist, yes you still find them in regular along with stacks, but the ratio is a lot more balance in your favor then in freelance

              • equip lower light items so kills count for extra, cant go wrong with either titan, or warlock, but with the hunter i always struggle a bit, but just goof around with golden gun and weighted knife until you get it, shatter dive works often times too.

              • I kind of BS this Quest step.. Warlock: Handhold super nova. Titan: Skullfort or Dunemarchers. Hunter: Ahamkara spines or Shatterdives, maybe weighted knife if you're good with that. I never found much luck with it. I typically try to max the stat I'm trying to abuse (mostly Int/dis) and play with weapons that help keep it topped off. It sucks major balls but I find it's easier to finish if you try not to think about it and just play normally. Not to mention, sometimes it doesn't count towards your progress even when you get ability kills. 🤷

                  • It absolutely is. I'm not sure which class you use but if it is hunter, I have found a lot of success using young ahamkaras spine with way of a thousand cuts. The supers alone net you at least two kills per game and the tripmines will indeed surprise you in how efficient they can be. Highly recommend getting used to the geometry of it all, it's very rewarding when done right.

                  • This particualr bounty has been complained about since they introduced it like 3 years ago. It forces the least enjoyed playstyle and makes people run around like apes to shotgun punch even more than they already do. Don't expect to see a change tho, cause Bungie is busy "listening" like they have been for years. They are great at it. LiStEnInG. Acting tho, thats a whole different story. Maybe in 2025 for a "big" mid season patch, they will consider giving an intern the task to adjust the ib bounties.

                  • IB is not sbmm. How long have you been here to know that's a typo they've never fixed. The ability bounty is the second one I got done This sounds like a it ou problem. What subclass are you using?
