The range on Thorn compared to Hawkmoon or Ace of spades seems lacking and the the fact that both them dont have a non cohesive mechanic for their buff to activate. Maybe removing the soul mechanic and replacing it with an actual curse like, "by holding your reload user will get cursed. While cursed, player takes more slightly more damage from enemies in return the burn is more effective for multiple hits on a cursed target." Think like Malfesence.

I feel like if the tracking range on the remnants were increased sufficiently the exotic perk would kick in enough more that it would be more viable without being completely OP in crucible.

6 RepliesI agree. Lumina and Sunshot are kinda in the same boat. Thorn does have an advantage over the 2 though. I dont like the whole get a kill and run to gain the orb nonsense.

No..... Just release the catalyst that's been sitting there since the gun was data mined. 30 range 20 stability if I remember right. Also the guns is fine. It doesn't need 65 meters of range and the 120 treatment. It's one of my go to weapons, any buffs would just get it nerfed into the ground 6-9 months later.

1 ReplyI'd rather see a stability buff than a range buff. Realistically its problems stem from the fact that it has 150 stats, despite being turned into a 140. Waking vigil has a similar problem.

All thorn needs is a slight range buff. Anymore than that it it will get out of hand. It's always been my personal favorite exotic. Although earning it in d1 on a hunter was exhausting.

4 RepliesThere is no curse on thorn its a mark and its the mark of the devourer. I main thorn and I can tell you that it is far from lacking. Thorn was busted in d1 and notorious for a reason. They tried it all ways and this has to be the most balanced of all. It was broke at full power, too weak with all 1s, busted as all 5, and nobody wanted the stacking buff that was all of the previous nerfs and buffs capped at the original 7. Thorn at full power isn't even fair and no amount of balance can change that. Its better the way it is now and they better not change it or it will be uncontested.

1 ReplyI would say with it's synergy with necrotic grips it's more of a pve gun now. Thorn is just kinda not good because of the overall insane range of 120s and it's exotic competitors. It's a risky perk but all it really needs is a range buff and it will be meta, but I think ace will probably always be better.
-
Yeah, it's only real advantage is that unbuffed, it's the only 140 that can kill in 2 crits 1 body, and more consistently if combined with something like Foetracer. It's too risky to use and will only see it's full potential right now if combined with Necrotic, but that's only if the guy dies to Thorn and not the poison which is stupid.

Thorn does feel kind of risky to use because of its “kill this guy and run to his corpse to kill another guy” perk, while ace can just get memento mori on the spot as long as you get a kill
