I’ve tried to work on my seasonal challenges. The one of getting precision kills with scouts or snipers. So I decided to also finish the catalyst for Polaris lance. I finished all the enemies but I’m stuck with just 30 kills with perfect fifth. I’ve ran multiple lost sectors with maybe a one or two increase in kills. Sometimes none? Are they not counting accurately?

its def bugged for me. iv been watching mobs die to the burn and explosions separately in different areas, different dungeons and im still stuck at 1/50 the only one i got was from when i originally got it before i took a year or so break.

I have tried every video guide putting it on the floor in prophecy, shattered throne, legend nightfall I've gotten many burn kills yet I can't even get a single one to register on the catalyst
-
Edited by OldTrafford Fan: 6/28/2021 7:11:07 PMIt only counts those killed by the perfect 5th explosion, not the shot itself. Get your headshots to arm the 5th, then get a critical on kill something with a lot of adds around. Those collateral kills are what progresses the catalyst. Find a place with a lot of hive thrall or taken psions.✌
-
Yeah it's....weird.....you need to get the burn dot damage. Not the actual bullet. It's very specific. With scout changes in pve coming this might be a monster later.
-
The catalyst requires you to kill enemies with the DOT burn damage, not the explosions. I finished the catalyst by killing Hive knights since they're tanky enough not to be killed by the explosions but by the DoT damage instead!
-
Did it in Mars lost sector. There are probably much better ones now anyway. Just find somewhere with lots of thrall and a red bar enemy to charge it up on, then kaboom!
-
I did mine in the prophecy dungeon, first encounter. Jump up on a sphere and headshot the taken knights till perfect fifth procs. Then shoot the ground under you where all the taken thrall are surrounding and you will get at least 2 burn kills. Rinse and repeat. I completed the catalyst here in about 15 mins

Knocked that one out in Leviathan, in an hour or so.

12 RepliesEdited by Hexi: 6/25/2021 8:58:39 AMWhoever says it's intentional that you only get them from burn damage is full of shit, it's obviously a bug since the catalyst itself CLEARLY says "explosions" and says NOTHING about the burn damage. Just another thing Bungie never bothered to fix cause they are lazy and incompetent. Best way to do it is to go to the legend NF strike solo, as that's like the only place with enough high HP mobs to do it in a reasonable amount of time. Every mob in Legend NF survives the explosion, so once you get used to the number of shots you can get a burn kill on literally every mob.

The comments are right, you have to get 4 precision hits to make the 4 lights on the scope glow, then shoot something with the next bullet that makes it not die instantly, but instead catch on fire and die from being on fire. It's tricky, it's annoying, and it's boring. Forget about doing it out on the wild. Instead, have to find a place that has a tanky boss with an easy crit spot and weak ads that keep respawning. Get 4 precision shots on the boss, then shoot the FLOOR next to the weak ads and they'll catch on fire and burn out and give you the credit. Don't shoot the ads, shoot the floor. Most of the good spots like lost sectors have been vaulted, but try this one: YouTube - Polaris Lance Catalyst cheese spot

Yep only counts from afterburn one of the most frustrating catalysts to finish
-
The best place to complete this is in the perdition lost sector or anywhere else you can find a hydra and vex. Make sure you have antibarrier scout equipped then lite the 4 lights by getting crits on the Hydra, once you have all 4 lit shoot a Harpie in one of it petals or a goblin in the head and you will get the burn damage kill. I did the 25 in about an hour in and around perdition.

1 ReplyYou actually need to allow the burn dmg from the perfect fifth shot to get the kill. I don’t know if that’s still the requirement but I remember doing that during the warmind expansion to finish the catalyst.
-
Perfect fifth is a pain to do. They have to die from the burn not the explosion. It took me a while to get it done.
-
Edited by Sweet Lew 88: 6/25/2021 7:08:19 PMYou didn't explain how you think the perfect 5th worked. Do you know how it works? Worked fine for me back in the day. Enemies have to die from burn damage. Got video proof that it's not working? Did you look at a guide?
-
Load up Last Wish plenty of Thrawl for you to shoot on one encounter. Enter your 4th wish on the wish wall and jump straight to the encounter. That’s how I complete most of my catalysts.
-
The burn has to kill, not the weapon. Its a pain in the butt.
-
5 RepliesYou have to kill the enemy with the burn damage from Perfect Fifth. It’s one of the most painful catalysts in the game to finish - worth it though Dragonfly is pretty decent on that gun!
-
2 RepliesYou should just run the Castel...wait, nevermind.
-
1 ReplyAs others have said, you need to get kills with the perfect fifths burn damage. Back in Warmind, I'd just go to the EDZ and kill Cabal. I believe a bodyshot perfect fifth on a full health legionary is a guaranteed burn damage kill.

Shuro Chi...

With burn* that's the issue friend
-
Only kills from the burn damage from the perfect fifth shot counts, get the precision shot to charge that shot and shoot the ground in front of weak(thrall and such) enemies .
-
mine too. haven’t progressed passed 15% since warmind

According to some people, it's intentional, but if that's the case, they've had since season 2 or 3 to fix the text on the weapon and the progress bar. The progress bar specifically says "Perfect Fifth explosion kills". Nowhere on the weapon or the catalyst does it even imply the existence of the burn damage much less the necessity of it. That would be like telling people to get kills with the poison damage on Thorn for the catalyst, but not telling you only buffed poison kills with 5 stacks count. On the topic of PLance, they should just fix the catalyst already, remove the burn damage, and add that damage to the explosion and it's Dragonfly.
