VPN preventing use of matchmaking

Matchmaking was working just fine last night. Logged on this morning to find that I'm stuck on "evaluating guardians" while trying to matchmake in all activities. Even loading into completely empty Tower and patrol zones. My VPN hasn't caused any troubles the past 4 months don't see why it would now. Really don't want to play the game without it. Please I am so lonely. Matchmaking seems to work while the VPN is disabled, but again I'd rather play with the VPN enabled.

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with matchmaking while using a VPN. I've been playing Destiny 2 for a while now, and I know how frustrating it can be when things don't work as they should. Have you tried disabling the VPN and seeing if that fixes the issue? If not, it might be worth looking into using a proxy instead. I know some players have had success with this. Besides, the proxy cost is less than a VPN subscription too! Hope you find a solution and can get back to playing with your friends soon.

Why did my original post get downvoted? This is still very much a real issue I'm experiencing. Even if D2 now has DDOS protection I don't want the rest of internet traffic to be exposed while playing the game. In fact I have had absolutely no issues with connecting to the servers, any other services or internet in general while connected to the VPN. The only issue I've had since reset this week is Destiny 2's matchmaking. (Update): Found a way to circumvent this issue. You can "blacklist" Destiny 2 in your VPN settings. This allows the VPN to protect all other traffic while disallowing Destiny 2's traffic to be rerouted through the VPN. This option can be found under Options in the General tab if using ExpressVPN. If anyone else experiencing this problem finds the Destiny 2 DDOS protection to be sufficient I highly recommend you try this option and see if it helps your situation too. GL everyone.

A user earlier this week reported that he solved the problem (no matchmaking of any kind) by factory-resetting his modem/router. Worth a shot (of course back up the important details of your current configuration before resetting).

  • What brand of VPN are you using? I'm running into the exact same situation after this latest update.

    • Did you ever get this sorted? I've gotten in touch with expressvpn and let them know there is an issue, thing is its not an issue between the end user and vpn, it's vpn and bungie...

      • If the VPN is causing the problem you would need to work with them to correct the issue.
