Is ophidian aspect still viable?

I feel like it is not as good as it used to be and I have been using them since d1. Maybe with all of the current exotics out there they are just not as good anymore. Or maybe this is just in my head? Either way I hope in the future the devs revamp it.

  • Phids and Steps make a spoiled choice. Still top drawer in my opinion. I play all classes and Warlocks might be the most blessed of the three for functional and effective exotic choices.

    • There's nothing wrong with that exotic. Absolutely no reason for a revamp. Want something new? Find a different exotic.

    • Yes, I used it in PVP for a long while because I wanted my weapons to over perform in the handling and reload department. I missed out on the sniper "Beloved" for the "quickdraw" and "snapshot" perks. I use the Sniper "Adored" and the shotgun "Felwinter's Lie" for different maps. Now that "quickdraw" is removed from "Felwinter's Lie", it is indeed more viable because of the nerf. Thing is, (not because of the quickdraw nerf) I got over the over excessive performance factor and started letting weapons handle themselves. Thus freeing me from the concern. I went back to the Exotic Armor "Transversive Steps" for the sprint speed and sprinting reload mechanic and I feel satisfied again. I put most of the armor mods for Pulse Rifles (Vigilance Wing) and only use Sniper and Shotgun Scavenger. I feel like Pulses are great to use armor mods for as they don't cost as much as other weapons in the mod slot. I will use V-Wing forever as it is my favorite Pulse Rifle of all time atm. "Ophidan Aspect" is viable of your over obsessed with having an edge with weapon handling performance. Imo, it's actually not that big a deal. Just switch your gun and reload at the right moments and your fine. It has become overated if your performing well in PVP.

    • Viable? They're one of only two good options for PvP Warlock Exotics, the other being Transversive Steps. Still good in PvE, they make a lot of slow and unwieldy weapons feel much more usable, but they are most definitely outclassed by flashier items.

        • There’s nothing wrong with it. It helps with handling, reload and pushes your charged melee out further. If your weapons are already pretty snappy you may not notice the difference.

          • Best warlock exotic for pvp because of no quickdraw anymore. having perfect handling passively at all times is invaluable because no other class has it except hunter with dragons shadow but even that doesnt have 100% uptime

          • As soon as I get lucky enough for necrotic grip to drop ill switch for awhile but I have literally been using ophidan since d1 and as soon as I was able to get them in d2 I have never used anything else. Overall I am a huge fan of them and I am just super used to them now. That being said I have heard that necrotic grip and thorn are a super disgusting combo.

It’s all I use on my Warlock in PvP. Transversive steps are still a second choice to me. Makes shotguns snappy, helps you get your aim up quicker, and that melee range is nice too. Pair them with Shotgun Dexterity and Quick Charge, you basically have QuickDraw on any shotgun. (Not to mention if you have QuickDraw TOO 😈)

            • I can see Ophidian Aspects being good if you're running Felwinter's Lie since it doesn't have Quickdraw anymore. From what I've seen they make pretty much any gun feel really snappy.

            • they are hands down the best exotic to use for a warlock for overall gameplay. I do think its in your head simply because there is a major difference when you play without them after playing with them for a long time.

It is, but do not let ophidian and transversive steps prevent you from using other options. There are a lot of good underused exotic warlock armor that is very much able to compete when using the right builds. To name a few: getaway artist, astrocyte verse, starfire protocol, wings of sacred dawn, eye of another world...

Yes Ophidians and transversives are the best neutral game warlock exotics for pvp

            • I don't know if it is still viable since I never use anything else when I play as warlock. Honestly, who would use an exotic if it had the following drawbacks: "significantly lowers handling for all weapons and shortens melee range"? :)

            • Yes. If you are not running a CWL Geomag Chaos reach, ophidians are the way to go.

            • Its the best exotic because it gives all shotguns and snipers...quickdraw and snapshot and faster reload. AKA...what should have been an agile hunter exotic.

              • Just think of it as getting Snapshot and Feeding Frenzy (old buff) on every weapon AND extended melee. Why wouldn't that be top tier?

              • Kind of got a passive buff in PvP doe to the QuickDraw changes / removal from certain guns. In PvE there are better options for sure but this is still a good ‘work horse’ exotic.

              • That exotic is only good for weapons with crappy handling. Back in the day the game was alot slower and weapons were more sluggish, now with the new perk pool the weapons themselves make ophidians kind of obsolete. You're better off running transversive steps honestly.

Definitely still a viable pick, and even more so after the Quickdraw nerf. It's biggest benefit is that its buffs are all passive, so they're active 24/7. Explanation down below:
It provides faster reload to all weapons, so you having a normal Reload mod will pretty much cap out the Reload stat on any weapon when used together. You could also opt for something like Impact Induction or a Dexterity mod instead since everything already has a faster reload to get your abilities back faster, or to double down on even faster swap speed since Dex mods stack with Ophidians. I wanna say it adds about 2 meters to your base melee range, which stacks with the previous buff to Warlock's base melee range by 1 meter, as well as charged melees like top tree Stormcaller's and Nova Warp's(you may be surprised at first). And I can't remember where I heard this, but I remember hearing the general Handling buff it provides is equal to +30 Handling to all weapons. So if a weapon has high base Handling, say around 60, having Ophidians on is basically equivalent to pre-nerf Quickdraw. The only people who'll beat you for raw weapon Handling and Reload are Hunters with Dragon's Shadow, but that comes at the cost of their Dodge to activate those benefits.
