This idea might seem crazy at first, but it makes sense.
He's always been close to where to Hive were, like on the moon, and the Barons magically get Hive powers under his supposed watch and then escape. Likewise, Uldren was somehow corrupted while in isolation in a tiny ball, under his watch?
Then the Elliksni are lead to Europa and conveniently also get corrupted by powers related to Darkness. Then, when we get there get subjected to Darkness. Then, when that fails to corrupt us, the Vex attack the city with random stuff and once again Variks is there to help us get in touch with Mithraax which leads to the city taking them in and suddenly everyone is having visions and hummin Savathns song.
Lastly, when you do the Beyond Light campaign, Variks form shifts and glitches and reveal Hive-like skin for a splt second. I tried to find images of it, but couldn't.
It was Variks all along!

Nah here’s why savathuun is in the city disguised as a hungry cloaked codger, Daddy variks is freezing his ass off on Europa giving his worthless brude many 3 armed spanks!

5 RepliesMy money is on Eris Morn. The Europa lore pages call her out pretty heavily in the alt timelines as being corrupted by the Darkness. If she isn’t possessed by Savathun, she’s at least up for close second in terms of characters who will turn on us.

9 RepliesIf you go read his lore/ the lore in general you’ll see your suggestions are impossible. Uldren was already corrupted before being in Variks’s care. The eliksni were lead to Europa by Eramis, Variks joined afterward. Though I assume you’re joking with this post lol

1 ReplyI’m pretty sure it’s going to be Osiris that Savathun is masquerading as. But then again, she literally is the definition of trickster and gains power off of deception. The possibility of Osiris being Savathun in disguise could just be a distraction from another character’s unmasking, but I don’t think it will be Variks.
Also, I’d feel very bad for Shadow if she fell in love with a hive god 😞
7 RepliesEdited by Dismay: 6/8/2021 12:22:17 AMIf you put the pieces together, we already know who it is, sort of.

I bet my entire left nut that Osiris is either Savathun in disguise or controlled by Savathun.

2 Replieswould you be able to tell me which parts of the campaign i could find these? i’ll try to document them if i can find them.

1 ReplyNope. Savathun’s reputation in The Book of Sorrows and her actions here in our system shows that she prefers to work through Thralls and marionettes instead of by direct action. Lakshmi-2 is clearly under the spell of Savathun. Having been corrupted by fear, hate, and a lust for power. I doubt Savathun has even exposed herself in any form that we’ve had direct contact with. There has been no need to. If it has been anyone, the only suspect is Eris Morn. Her survival and return when the rest of her Fireteam died has always been suspect. While we’ve only seen her in action against the Hive due to the loss of her ghost. But Ahamkara magic may explain what happened. Magic predating Savathun’s arrival.

10 RepliesDoubt it. Hive is something different from Darkness. And Savathun is an entirely different beast altogether. Additionally, Variks has helped to maintain the peace in the city a little bit, judging by a conversation between him and Misraaks in which he helped remind the House of Light kell of his faith in humanity. He's not exactly a sower of discord, nor an ally to Darkness or the Hive. I also don't recall any kind of form shifting.
