RNG shouldn't have us running activities moths after release in hopes of getting specific drops. Things like Night Falls and Legendary Lost Sectors need to be more focused in how they present loot.
Farming should be reserved for when NEW gear is added to the loot pools. Then they should go back to being a means by which to maximize our gear scores through powerful/pinnacle drops.
There are plenty of activities in the game. We should not need to spend weeks on end farming one particular thing for new gear.
Why?
Because there isn't enough of it. When you add three new exotics or weapons that are supposed to span multiple seasons. Those things aren't really "rare". They aren't special. They are just a few more items on the checklist.
And IMO, players should be able to complete that checklist a lot faster.
Why?
So that they can focus on USING that gear. Completing challenges and perfecting their load outs. In a game like Destiny. With a limited loot pool. IMO, that is where the replayability comes from.
No, I am not suggesting gear should just be handed out like candy. But it works a lot better when someone can put in the work, get the gear, and move on to the next thing. There is no need to artificially extend the time doing the same thing over and over.
Just an opinion.

Wish they would have more ways to target specific loot, especially exotics. I like what they do with the recaster, that’s definitely a help. Example: if you Want a better roll on specific piece of exotic armor....have a way to target that price to increase the chances of that dropping. Having to grind out lost sectors, which aren’t exactly high on the fun scale, for a random piece of armor with a 59 stat roll is a waste of time. I constantly have the same 3 exotics that I’ve NEVER used or would use Drop from the world loot pool too. 67 stat rolled Lucky Raspberry. It’s a great roll, never gonna use it. I still use Orpheus Rig and would love to increase the chance of that dropping along with a higher stat roll. To me, that’s meaningful grinding and end game content.

1 ReplyI sort of agree and disagree. For playlist weapons (stuff like Survivors Epitaph, Bottom Dollar, Royal Entry, etc) I don't think target farming is necessary. You'll get the drops from doing the activities. I think it's one of those things where being on the lookout for interesting rolls as you do the activities over several seasons is good enough. I got a god tier Stars in Shadow without grinding the first season it was out. Got a decent Bottom Dollar too. This is all after drop rate buffs which were needed. I just think it's okay to have a multi season grind for items in playlists. Where I agree is legendary and master lost sectors. These are not team activities so you're bored alone, and they largely become a repetitive drag when you're looking for a specific exotic. It just kind of drains the life out of you because the rewards are on a rotation so they can only be sought out every few days, the exotics aren't guaranteed drops which is okay, but when you finally get that one exotic you were looking for to actually drop and it has horrible stats it's just kind of demoralizing. It's just an activity that doesn't feel good to grind.

Got the new auto and pulse within the first week of the season. Have no reason now to play. Got what I wanted, no point in worrying about the season pass now either
