What does “Proximity” mean to Bungie?

So I got this really neat new toy called Ignition Code with this funny thing called Proximity Grenade. Now I looked up the definition of Proximity which means “nearness in space” and thought “get grenade close and it goes Boom” . So I shot it at a lot of those funny red bar things and it went in between a bunch of the legs - no Boom. Next to the head - no Boom. Under the armpits - no Boom. Hit em square in the chest - Boom! Finally I realized Bungie is using a different dictionary than the rest of us. Could I get your copy Bungie?

  • You shouldn't be surprised that proximity has a different meaning to Bungie. You can equip Sprint Grip (Increased ADS speed) on Swords, for f**k sake.

      • Proximity grenades are meant to be shot at walls and the floor, when an enemy gets close enough thats when they go boom. Although your idea of what they meant is a good assumption i believe that would make proximity grenades waaaaay too good especially in the PvP playlist seeing as how you wouldnt have to hit them directly. Bungie may not care about PvP but theres still some balance.

            • In Bungie terms, proximity means direct hit or within a millimeter of your target.

              • can agree with others- spike grenades with careful R2 release are better at getting the job done than trusting proximity grenades to do what they are supposed to

              • I noticed that too. Proximity grenades need a buff badly. The proximity is a 0.1 meter next to the enemy.

I know right. Same proximity definition these use in gambit/override for mote pickup detection. I was tickled pink when I got an prox/ambitious assassin/frenzie roll. Can confirm that prox does not work. You have to either hit them with it(in which case spikes are way better because the do more damage without gimping your blast radius)or release to detonate. No really a proximity grenade if you have to smack them in the face with it.

              • Delete it and wait for a spike nades roll👍🏻

              • It could mean that they stick to the ground and wait for someone to get close.

                • Normally when a perk specifies proximity it means YOUR proximity to the enemies, as in you need to be close enough to a group of enemies for it to proc.
