So, I want to preface that I have used both and I want to share a brief background on my gaming history. I am a middle aged gamer, having started my FPS history with Duke Nukem and it evolved with Halo in high school and university life. Well, life happened (job, marriage, kids, etc). I understandably took a hiatus. Early 2020, my wife recommended I get back into gaming as a way to unwind, in particular during this COVID environment. My brother and I started our return to gaming with Destiny 2 because we enjoyed Halo. Like Halo, we love the game and there are some aspects that are not perfect, but the actual story and feel of this FPS is an evolved form of gaming that is clean and smooth.
So, what about KBM vs Controller. I currently play with controller. I tried the KBM, but it honestly takes practice to get used to it. This past month, I tried the KBM more. I noticed some considerable and competitive differences with both. The Aim Assist is evident in controller, BUT I really believe KBM has the upper hand. KBM Pros: Fast and I mean fast responsiveness (I could never turn and respond so quickly on controller, period.) and so much easier to be accurate (precision - I tested this out with my brothers and it's day and night) with weapons. Yes, KBM doesn't have the aim assist and that counts for something. But, 9 out of 10 times, if you're faster, then the odds are you're going to survive the outcome.
So, where am I going with this? I really believe that KBM and Controller players should have their own lobbies and matchmaking. Here me out here on why: 1) It levels the playing field, 2) It would probably improve players' experience with PVP, and 3) Maybe we would see more people trying and sticking with the PVP format.
I get this might not be feasible, but better to share the thought. I'm genuinely curious, what do you think? Welcome all views on this.

Bad idea. The player pool on PC is small enough, and if you divide it, matchmaking will take longer. With controller players being in the minority on PC, they’ll wait a very long time to match make with other players.

It's a strengths and weaknesses thing. Mid range is owned by Controller because you're far enough away to not need fast turning, but close enough for aim assist not go drop off. But KBM will win shotgun fights and extreme long range fights where aim assist has dropped off.

Edited by Swiftlock: 4/21/2021 2:23:35 AMThis thread is asking the wrong question. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Controllers cause weapon stability to behave differently. Last Word is still ridiculous in the hands of a good controller user, but on the other side, hip firing Dead Man's Tale isn't as potent, and SMG's are much less consistent. Meanwhile, range is more of a factor for MnK users as stability is more straightforward to control, but aim assist isn't as active compared to a controller.

Edited by l HyperLethal l: 4/21/2021 1:57:34 AMDestiny 2 feels like it was built with pc players in mind. MnK. On controller, it just feels like the aim mechanics were slapped together. Clunky and slow.

M&K users complain about the amount of aim assist controllers have. Yet they too get aim assist. But only in the form of bullet magnetism and not sticky aim. The most common complaint from controller users on this forum about aim assist is when their reticle gets pulled off of the player they are aiming at and onto another, so basically the sticky aim part of aim assist. Basically 1 lot complains about the other lot having something that they themselves complain about having. My point is; Pick a input device and be a dick about it! The rest is gravy.

2 RepliesI'd you use controller on pc please go back to console.

MnKB has a higher ceiling with the exponentially faster and preciser crosshair movement like you said. Big reason why controller snipers (and certain playstyles in general) can work so well even on PC's because a sniper can do well with (besides the huge hitboxes in this game) mostly just perfected pre-emptive crosshair placement. Which is an extremely important skill regardless of input device and gun used dont get me wrong. But the slow crosshair movement always remains an abuseable weakness in applicable scenarios in a controller player's gameplay when put against MnKB players. Outside of that, I don't think there's need to separate the matchmaking further than by platform like it already is. For controller experience, consoles. For MnKB experience, PC. If you play controller on PC you voluntarily accept the above mentioned potential handicaps. It's good the option exists to use controller, I just suspect if PC controller players were split into their own matchmaking their playerbase would be too small for a good experience queue times and p2p connection -wise. If you're worried about the coming crossplay, pretty sure it was already confirmed that pvp crossplay'll only be a thing between consoles and then PC <-> stadia? Basically controller and MnKB platforms wont mix. Now pretty sure it's a utopean technical impossibility for this company, but if it was possible to combine all platforms into a single matchmaking pool with crossplay and then separate the actual matchmaking by each player's input device, that would be ideal.

1 ReplyI get the sentiment, but being on MKB doesn't make the player. MCC has crossplay with Xbox and PC and in game you can handly tell who is using what. If they game didn't tell you in the pregame lobby...you probably wouldn't know. Granted MCC does also have opt in/out matchmaking for either platform or input restrictions just in case someone doesn't want to mingle with the MKB vs Controller games. In terms of Destiny, I played on PC for a little bit and used a controller and was able to hold my ground against MKB players...and that was well before the recoil changes.

37 RepliesController snipers have dominated face it (best players) since it started ... hitboxes are huge in this game don’t need precision...
