I'm fed up with wasting time with champion mobs where the counter mechanic DOES NOT WORK. This isn't fun, full stop. This makes for a very bad time and makes me not want to continue supporting Bungie. If there's some secret here that players should know, especially in solo mode, then please make it more obvious.
EDIT: Appears I am not alone here. Looking through other posts, it looks like many have similar frustrating with the bugger nature of Overload champions as solo players as well as some commonality with teleporting mobs. I have personally had way too many cases where a mob I'm targeting randomly blips (no teleport-follow animation) or has clipped through physical structures where I can't affect the mob but the mob can affect me. I've also had several cases where the mobs WILL HEAL WHILE THEY ARE STUNNED.. or I'll hear the stun sound effect and the mob continues to run around..". A short list of other reports:

EDIT #2: I'm just going to stop using non-sword overload mods, specifically for soloing master lost sectors. It's not worth the headache.
EDIT #3: Thanks for those adding constructive feedback here. General consensus leans toward the following summary from responses:
- Swords are #1 in reliability, but mainly due to burst dmg immediately following the stun
- Bows are #2 in reliability, but only certain ones in combination with some other burst damage (ex: bow + buff? + rocket launcher)
- SMGs are just about useless for the stronger overload/teleporting mobs, dont bother
- Divinity Exotic is seen as reliable (built-in mod), but is restricted to non-solo players (raid + farming the raid)
- De-syncs are common and seen typically with the highly mobile/teleport champions (Stun sound, but no stun, gg)
- (Of note?) Console players (arguably) seem to see less issues, especially when paired with bows vs pc(?)
I'm a PC player, currently 1303.625 (not including +20 artifact). For yesterday's 1330 I re-did a Warlock-Void build with Black Talon, giving up on SMG/bow overload. The ranged sword-attack and burst damage helped to (mostly) avoid getting one-shot by the Minotaurs and farm the M-LS. Build details [E15].
Load-out summary (Voidburn+Overload+Barrier):
Escape Velocity - Submachine Gun (Grave Robber, Osmosis + Major Spec)
Royal Chase - Scout Rifle (Auto-loading Holster, Multikill Clip + Major Spec)
Black Talon - Exotic Sword (Masterworked)
Exotic armor: Ophidian Aspect - Exotic Gauntlets (Cobra Totemic: Imp wep ready, reload, & melee range.)

Some personal takes, written as user-story input:
- "As A Player, in a solo master lost sector, I Should Be Able To.." use linear fusion rifles in place of swords or rocket launchers options, so that I have some additional variety in my challenge encounter-clearing builds
- AAP..ISBAT pair an overload counter mod with a linear fusion rifle, so that I have some variety in ranged overload options
- AAP..ISBAT rely on the SMG overload mod working intuitively with SMG weapons, so that I can save money.. on the inevitable damage caused from throwing my PC across the room if the counter fails to engage repeatedly

Obnoxiously over-powered buggy insta-heal 'champions' have completely ruined the game. crapola. Those of you giving step by step advice are either ignorant or dumb... You think no one knows how to stagger champions but you? lol

Dunno is this accurate, haven't tested it, but sometimes I feel like smg overload rounds does not proc when I have some weapon damage boost active (non weapon perk). Maybe it's just text not showing or my bad perception. Ikelos SMG with seraph rounds works "well" against teleporting champions cause rounds knock them back and stops them teleporting for a while till stunned.

6 RepliesI’m sure it’s been said but the problem is the smg/auto overload mods don’t work because the stun is restricted to a certain round fired after activating the animation. You have to lower the weapon and aim again/wait to restart the whole cycle. This is much easier to manage in bows/HC/snipers

I’m light level 1324 and I realized that I haven’t mastered killing these champions as efficiently as I would hope. There was one incident where the champion was approaching me, he was maybe 40 meters away. I staggered him with my bow, switch to rocket. While i was shooting the rocket, he glitched right in front of me, blew myself up. I died but he survived. Just gave up after that.

1 ReplyOverload bow fully drawn and rocket launcher. This combo lets me solo most lost sectors. You do have to switch back and forth.

5 RepliesYeah I've noticed as soon as they unstagger they heal immediately regardless of damage being dealt. If like you have to re stun them to kill them. I do have some suggestions. Le monarque when hitting crits does Dot that seems to stop the immidiate health regen. Divinity does this ion occasion Stick them with a rocket, stun them and stick them again.

Literally teleporting on a faster rhythm than ARs or SMGs can stun them. Community discontent with them is almost universal. Which makes it baffling why Bungie has done nothing about them.

You mean you don't like the sound that staggering them makes only for them not to be staggered and then continue to heal and charge you...yeah, it sucks.

Sword has always taken a few hits, really difficult unless you freeze them. The exotic bows and any weapon with explosive payload seem to be consistent. Your complaint is valid but these are your best options currently.

And don’t forget just completely disappearing or standing in walls and then showing up right in front of you. I really don’t get why some people or the devs think this is “FUN”, especially since you can’t enjoy it with someone else.

2 RepliesLe Monarque is excellent against the Overload. The poison shot you can activate with Le Monarque can stun them alone. I am not a massive fan of bows, but this helped me clear some solo lost sectors no problem.

Same, died twice when I thought I stunned the champ in solo master LS, but in reality, it didn't get stunned and shoot me to oblivion, though I don't generally have any complaint about them as I follow the strategy of throwing one anarchy shot first then stun them with a bow then throw another and keep spamming bow, it bugs me a lot when things like this don't work.

they are fine, the people that complain just dont know how they work. it isnt hard to stun them!!
