who has the saddest story in destiny?

which character do you think has the saddest backstory in destiny? one that makes you feel so bad for them you just wanna give them a hug! i’d have to say it’s a tie between drifter, eris, and crow. drifter acts like he just wanted to stay dead, which is understandable. he also watched an entire village of people he lived with get massacred, and i know he acts like he didn’t care, but i think he did. the girl he loved also left him and got turned into the emissary so that must’ve been hard. poor eris watched her entire fireteam of friends die, her ghost die, and then was changed by the hive. she spent, what, a few years down in the hellmouth? that must’ve been excruciating to live through. and, ofcourse, we have crow/uldren. dude throws himself on a blade for his sister but she’s cold to him. eventually he dies for her and... well we all know that story. then he’s brought back, but has to deal with guardians beating him up and has no idea why. spider treated him like a dog. and even now he has to hide his face because of who he was. just give him a break already! honorable mention... katabasis. he has a similar event to eris, where he was trapped somewhere with an enemy race. he then had to watch his ghost grow distant from him and, eventually, had to kill him. to kill your own ghost... heartbreaking. truly.

      • The guardian from the savathuns song strike. She had to witness her entire fireteam turned into void crystals. And then sacrificed herself to give us one last shot.

          • Me. I had to put up with Using Radegast's Fury for ages coz Gjally never dropped for me. Try joining a team to take on Crota without it... It was a sad time. “Must have Gjally”. :(

            • Saladin. I couldn’t imagine seeing all of your friends die 1-by-1 in a very greusome way. Not to mention the trauma, PTSD, and horrible memories of seeing 3 of his best friends get turned into twisted abominations by the very thing they sought to use to save the world. He’s died the most, seen the most, killed the most, and endured the most. People can have different opinions about Saladin’s tendency to use violence and his unwillingness to negotiate at times. But he is undoubtedly the one who has suffered the most in the series.

The lore about Uldren’s early days adds much more context to his backstory and makes it all the more tragic. He was actually a really jovial guy, like Crow is now, until he and his best friend snuck into the Black Garden to impress Mara. Their experience changed them. They began to have dreams about it. In the case of Uldren, it changed his personality, hence why he is a d****ecanoe when we first meet him.

I think Variks has to be up there. One of the last few Eliksni who remember Riis and their Golden Age and had to flee their homeworld when Oryx arrived. The last member of House Judgment and basically the only Eliksni to actively preserve their old ways of life and culture (which he is beginning to forget, as we can hear on Europa). Despite this, he is treated like trash by his kin and is basically completely alone now he's left House Salvation. His hope for a united Eliksni has been crushed at least twice now, with Skolas and Eramis (a long-standing friend) both failing to fulfil the Kell of Kells prophecy. Now he waits, hoping for Mithrax to contact him or for Petra/Mara to come and likely execute him. I'd say the burden he carries is possibly the heaviest of all characters. He can't be revived like old Guardians, and unlike lightless guardians such as Eris and Osiris he is the last source of an ancient culture and history. When Variks eventually dies, unless he passes on what he knows, the old Eliksni die with him

                        • Not me. I have been coming up with an amazing story for my characters. As for the story of destiny well asking bungie causing the game is lacking. Sad story is destiny has no story to speak of because bungie is trying to compete with games it has no chance against and should do it’s own thing over trying to be a call of duty or battlefield let alone there original up halo which was sold to Microsoft. Facts are facts.
