how are brutes in Halo Reach?

I really don"t know. 1. don't the Brutes come in in Halo 2?2.It says in the Halo Encyclopedia (yes there is one) that the Brutes joined AFTER Reach fell. Lastly, all the troopers if you listen, say things about the Brutes like they have been fighting them for along time and again, they weren't in the Halo games until Halo 2. So please answer P.S. dont get angry at me for not knowing or misspellin or anything like that.

 • The reason you saw none in CE but saw them in 2, Wars, and 3 is because they were not in the Fleet of Particular Justice, the Arbiter's fleet. Being an Elite, he hated Brutes, so there were none in his fleet.

 • At least Bungie stuck to the canon of Elites and Brutes not working together. I heard that especially towards the time of Halo 3, the Brutes and Elites were rivals and would not deploy together at all. It's even true in firefight. You get a round of Elites and a round of Brutes

 •
Posted by: Thrasher Fan The real problem is that Thel Vadamee (the Arbiter) hated Brutes. Why would he want them in his fleet? (which attacked Reach)
He was also the one who discovered Instalation 04 (The Halo: CE ring world)

 • Ughhhhhhh. I'm sorry, but quite frankly, try as you might, Bungie simply screwed up. Or they just don't care about canon. Let's review. We go through CE & 3 books with no mention of Brutes. One of these books is based on the same timeline as Halo Reach, and the other is set just before Halo 2. In NONE OF THESE GAMES OR BOOKS ARE BRUTES MENTIONED. The truth of the matter is this: Bungie decided that they loved Brutes, forced them into the canon via Contact Harvest, ignoring the fact that after Brutes were encountered, Cortana didn't know who they are, Master Chief didn't know who they are, and seemingly no one else did either until the end of First Strike. I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way anyone can tell me that there is a logical reason Cortana of all the characters would not know about Brutes, and don't give me the rubbish about it merely being her sub-routines that didn't know about them - if the sub-routines knew about all the other species in the Covenant, she'd know about Brutes too. I don't know why it annoys me so much, but everyone stands up for Halo Legends & Halo Reach for breaking the canon and it's retarded.

 • I'm not sure exactly, but I have heard some people say that it is because Elites were scavengers for religious artifacts, and in the Case of Halo (it was a forerunner artifact.) the Pillar of autumn wasn't being chased or or attacked. So this lead to no brutes being there. I'm guessing brutes we're for strength only, I.E. invasions and defending after invasion was successful (I.E. Halo ODST)
Posted by: XFiReDuDe22X I really don"t know. 1. don't the Brutes come in in Halo 2?2.It says in the Halo Encyclopedia (yes there is one) that the Brutes joined AFTER Reach fell. •
Posted by: Gruntpocalypto
Posted by: Cyco Halo Fan Brutes were typically used as a mop up crew for towns and cities on planets the covenant invaded. They were never initially put on improtant assignments, just smaller things that may be more violent, such as killing whole cities of innocent civiallians. Hence the term "brute" arrised.
Makes sense. Brutes are on par with Elites, but aren't as logical in thinking, so they're let loose to just kill innocents after all the threat-posing enemies are gone. Then after the Elites split from he Covenant, Brutes are elevated to the Elite's status as a fill-in
And Elites dont believe in slaughtering those who cant fight back. It's seen as a dishonor so they have others do it instead. And I believe the Brutes in Reach are more unkempt because they are still below Elites in the caste of the Covenant. Thus they didn't get the same armor and equipment they get when they become the prominent species

 • The Brutes play heavily in the Battle of Harvest, 27 years before the events of Reach. I suggest reading Contact Harvest.

 • one thing that bugs me is the look of the reach brutes, I know there will be tribal traits but the reach brutes are shaved and tattooed is this just a design shift or is there a reason for the halo 3 brutes to be so unkempt.

 • The Brutes were in the Covenant long before the war. In fact it was a Brute controlled ship that first attacked Harvest which started the war. This is why the marines would be talking about fighting them before Halo 2. The reason Brutes were not in Halo: CE was because the Fleet that followed the Pillar of Autumn to Halo was an Elite controlled fleet, hence no Brutes. You may want to read the encyclopedia again. It doesn't say Brutes joined after Reach. It may say something about them becoming prominent but that is not the same thing.

 •
When the Covenant discovered them in 2492, they had just rediscovered radio and rocketry. In their primitive state they were quickly defeated and absorbed into the Covenant
Also, read the book Contact Harvest, the Brutes were actually the first species who meet Humanity. Correction: The JACKALS were the first species to meet Humanity, Brutes are the second I believe. [Edited on 10.21.2010 3:36 PM PDT]

 • They were not allowed to set foot on holy ground, so thats why they weren't in Halo CE. But they were on an "unclean" planet known as Reach so there.
