Here's my feedback now that I've finished the Ticuu's Divination catalyst quest. In general, it is very worth doing because it makes an already powerful weapon into something nearly completely overpowered...in PvE.
That's the catch. It's a great PvE weapon but one almost completely unsuited to PvP, yet you have to get 50 PvP kills with it to get the raw catalyst. If you have ranked up the season pass high enough if you bought it, then this can fall to 13, which isn't so bad except for a few key things:
1) A good number of people are terrible with bows in the Crucible to start with, and Ticuu's Divination is not the most powerful bow unless you use its unique 2-step attack (shoot once to prime the target, shoot again to blow them up). But in the Crucible, you CANNOT do this. You can only use it as a normal bow, but now neutered from its best attack. So kills, even 13, might be hard to get quickly, especially when you consider...
2) There are so many sweaty players in the Crucible all the time now that a slow, mediocre attack from the bow when you can't use the priming attack means you probably lose every fight unless you fight sneaky.
So I spent matches ignoring every objective or any semblance of team play hoping to position myself to get mop-up kills when other players damaged an enemy, or by quickly attacking with the bow when I did some other sort of damage. But in a straight-up shootout, BAM! I was dead. However, tricky as it was, I did it.
But why on Earth force a Crucible step when there's not much chance the bow will see much use there since it is obviously intended as a PvE weapon? All that it does is force players to use adopt a playing style that distorts the intended purpose of PvP, which is team play. Instead, people will merrily ignore all that just to get their kills. It's like a different version of the heavy ammo step of the recent Iron Banner quest, where everyone ignored the game just to cluster around the heavy ammo spawn points.
I am glad I got the catalyst, and then the hundreds of more PvE kills you need to finish it. It's a beast, even in Gambit where it really shines (but not against invaders, which I attack in other ways), and also it is great for the Legendary Lost Sectors.
But the random and unwarranted PvP step is just bizarre. This sort of nonsense has to stop. If Bungie wants to make Crucible good again, they need to stop making people go into it intending to play in a manner that wrecks the team aspect of it just to pursue a quest of catalyst.
Having said all this, do try to get the catalyst. It's worth it.

2 RepliesI don't see why these freaks and aliens are saying TV is good in pvp, it's literal dogwater compared to all the other exotic bows as far as pvp goes, in fact bows in general are awful in that mode, I'm late to the party so I'm stuck getting 50 kills in crucible, this weapon is by no means adapted for pvp and tbh most other exotics are all around better than it imo bungie should remove the mandate for final blows in pvp and replace it with defeats, that would make the quest reasonable
-
I agree, except that the purpose of pvp is to make money for Bumgie, not about fun or reasonable quest steps. They believe that sweaty pvp players spend more money so they get all the attention.
-
The PvP requirement is complete BS. The bow sucks in this mode. Wasn't designed for it but I have to suffer through a mode that I loathe because these toad lickers thought it was a good idea. Complete garbage. PvE should not be forced into PvP.

1 ReplyEdited by Snackious, Taken by the Cr: 6/9/2021 6:24:44 PMat the current season, they have made the quest extremely annoying to get, the reason being You need to calibrate weapon data, you dont need to have the weapon on you in strikes, but the thing is. ITS 200 CALIBRATION DATA AND YOU ONLY GET 1 POINT PER STRIKE/GAMBIT/CRUCIBLE you get 1 single, extra point for each guardian you killed, meaning the game is futher more pushing you into doing that not only that most players cant fight back regardless of "oh just stand back in the back lines and shoot behind your teammates" you need to lands FINAL blows with the weapon, assists does noting regardless of game mode. so its either you grind endlessly on strike, or you grind endlessly on pvp... with rage, lots of it. i have been grinding for at least 30 hours and whats my progress? 67... out of 200. thanks bungie. (extra edited in) so either you get ready to break your back grinding strikes to getting destroyed by handcannon/shotgun sweats that thinks they looks so cool camping corners with a shotgun. and also, theres next to no open space for you to hide from, so dont pretend that you are a friendly pvp player and not a tryhard sweat, most of the game is filled with choke points and closed areas. even if you are far enough AND have the stars to be align and gives you an afk player, then have fun! they are mostly standing in their spawn and their teammates are around ready to either solo super you or blast you with their warcliff coil, or someone stole your kill because we here at Bungie doesn't care about anything that isnt the player's tears and blood
-
It's time for this to change now that the season pass perk to accelerate quest progress is gone. This is an absolutely miserable quest to complete when you're using this bow and everyone around you is blowing up your head with hand cannons. Some larger amount of defeats (without needing to be a final blow) would be more than reasonable. This quest was obviously designed this way to push people to buy the season pass, which is garbage tier design. Please change it, Bungie.

Have you tried Gambit? .. You can get about 3-4 invader kills a game of you camp by the portal.. the auto lock is OP and it was fairly easy to get that way.

13 RepliesEdited by Broken: 3/15/2021 10:21:41 PMNot that lil old me will be taken seriously. =) But I'd rather kill 10,000 , 100,000 , or 1,000,000 ads then step into pvp. I really don't want to get reported for having bad connection. Unless people out there wish to pay for the bloated price of cable in my area. Easy or not, It would bother me somewhat to get temp banned for trying to get a catalyst, then not be able to get the catalyst. Sorry my connection sucks so much, it aint my fault! It hasn't happend to me yet, But I NEVER GO THERE. The times I did, I can tell it's just waiting to happen to me, so no thank you. I'll live without catalysts that involve pvp, it sucks sure, but hey whatever. I'm gimped in real life so I'll get used to it.
-
9 RepliesI just want Bungie to remove pvp tasks from catalyst. I have over 10 catalyst that are not completed because it requires 50 or more guardian kills. Crap, I can barely 5 kills per game with my scout rifle, how am i suppose to get 50 Kills with a bow and arrow? No, “Git gud ” is not the answer
-
Did it in 5 gambit invasions. You get 4 points for every kill 2 for a assist.
-
4 Repliesit's bungie trying to force people who hate pvp, and who are bad at it, to fuel the over inflated egos of the losers who do nothing but pvp or the losers who do nothing but stream pvp.
-
I don't understand why there aren't options for both PvE and PvP players. Just make it be something like "Get 50 guardian final blows" OR "Defeat 250 combatants"
-
2 RepliesEdited by Swiftlock: 3/16/2021 1:55:04 AMI think the bigger issue is that many players straight up don't know how to use bows. Bows are SUPPORT WEAPONS. They are not for dueling against meta weapons in head-on 1v1's. Stay BEHIND your teammates and put arrows into any bad guys who try to hurt your allies. You will get kills. I know that PvP is unbalanced, but bows get a bad rap often because of user error.
-
I totally agree about the bow making more sense getting pve kills for its catalyst. After you reach level 22 in the season pass, you only need 13 kills. The easiest way to complete these kills for anyone who doesn’t play pvp is stay near walls as often as you can and follow your teammates. You are guaranteed to get a couple of kills easily using the bow as a support weapon to finish off anyone your teammates shoot. As soon as you start taking fire, take cover using the walls. If enemies start rushing with shotguns then consider going to open areas where those apes will have a harder time reaching you. Its really not that hard, I know it sucks but it cant be helped so just work with what you got. As OP said, the catalyst is worth it.
-
Crucible sucks especially because there are no servers, but instead of fixing it's many problems they try to force people into it, which just makes people hate Crucible & Bungo more. With a new person leading D2 hopefully this is the last quest/weapon, trying to get people into Crucible.
-
1 ReplyEven I got the Crucible part easily done and I generally suck at PvP. You need to learn to use the bow -- prime targets with hipfire from extreme ranges. Try to keep the bow slightly drawn at all times and let loose as soon as you seen red diamonds -- the tracking shots don't need full draw at any range. Then finish them off with an aimed shot -- even this doesn't need full draw if you're close. Plus you will get a ton of assists...

3 RepliesEdited by MagicalTaco117: 3/15/2021 6:54:46 PMDude. I hate bows. I hate PvP.... but this was stupidly easy once I started going for it. Pre-load the bow, the little auto track arrows lock on better than Truth does, once you loose that arrow, ADS and hit the enemy. It’s a freakin insta-kill and the explosion can damage/kill nearby enemies.
-
5 Repliesmy opinion is they want more people to play pvp. I am still pretty new to the game and i did not come to this gaming looking to pvp. I came to play a rpg-ish shooter mmo type of game which is what Destiny seems to be. Came to play every thing Destiny has other then straight up pvp, the lore and gameplay. But since i came back to the game it seem like they are trying to get people to got kill each other with stuff like that quest. which is annoying for who don't like or want to do it like other said should not have people going into pvp for what is mostly a pve weapon. I don't want to spend my play time grinding that out when there is so much more to do then grinding pvp to hope to get a kill with the bow before being one shot by the hard core pvpers
-
Literally easiest pvp catalyst quest ever takes at most two games I’ve never ran into “sweats” in 6’s before and kills in control and clash are the purpose of the game unless you’re leaving every match with 11+ captures which I highly doubt getting kills is the purpose of EVERY game mode in the crucible. Slide out hip fire, cover, slide out ads headshot kill. Rinse and repeat absolute cakewalk.
-
13 pvp kills is okay, the amount is fine, but they can just make it to 50 bow kills in pvp, I don't like the sight on this thing and bows are all about feeling for me
-
I would just recommend just using it like a normal bow. The exotic perk is not worth the setup. You should peak shoot with bows. You won't win in the open. 150 exotic scouts and 120 handcannons will eat you for breakfast. Try priming them with a skip gernade with shiobus vow.
-
Edited by everwilling: 3/16/2021 6:45:34 AMIt's destiny! It is what it is. I don't use bows full stop especially in pvp. Got it done and totally worth it.I like how D2 pushes me out of my comfort zone.
-
2 RepliesWithout being a douche, this sound less like a bow/quest problem - and more like a: you don't like pvp problem. Seriously, it has to be the easiest and most forgiving bow to use... period. Oh, and don't worry about not doing the objectives in pvp -- no one does them anyway.
-
I got my kills through gambit. Was really easy.
-
You don't need 50 kills... That's if you don't have the season pass boosts. Its more like 13.
-
It was a crappy choice to require PvP, but also, just do it without whining because it's not that bad.
-
You missed out on when everyone was using it. Much easier to get the kills. Especially since your teammates could prime targets and then you finish them off. Now that most people past that step though, its unfortunately right back to steady hands and True prophecies.
