Battlegrounds are boring

Battlegrounds are essentially the same thing as a strike and it is the same thing over and over again (like most things in this game). I hated the lure charges and I hate hammer charges just as much. I liked season of arrival’s version of the umbral engram system because I could play whatever activity I wanted to get the items required to focus the engrams. The current system is far worse because it takes so much longer to decode anything because you force us to play an activity that gets old really fast. The only battlegrounds mission I actually like is the one on the cosmodrome. Bungie, please use season of arrival’s umbral system in the future instead of these activities that are essentially the exact same thing as a strike. Also, bring back the menagerie in the near future. I enjoyed that activity a lot.

  • I quite enjoy it tbh. I like hoarde modes, escalation protocol was a favourite, I liked menagerie, still enjoy blind well. Why am I limited to only 3 tier 3 charges per week though? Why not let players focus as many as they want? And the T3 focusing could do with a change. Its quite a grind to get a T3, to have it only offer a 50% chance to get the weapon you want and you then still have the lottery of random rolls on top of that needs to be looked at and improved. I mean, with the cryptolith lure I know exactly what item I'm going to get, and can even limit the perks that will roll for far less overall grind.

    • Battlegrounds is a Seasonal Activity. It was made with the idea to remain in the game as a core Activity only for few months. From this point of view, I think it's okay. Not crazy good, but not even bad. Simply okay and that's a very good place where to stay for a Seasonal Activity. Bad Activities become obsolete very fast. Too good Activities make players pretend to get something even better after. Balance is needed... The only problem for now seems to be the Hammer Charges for one single Tier 3 Focused Engram that it's not even particulary crazy good. Bungie should just tweak this aspect, imho.

      • Remember Reckoning? Except, those of us who didn't play with fireteams were stuck with Blueberries who couldn't even clear the first area *sigh*. I think the worst for me was the Forges

        • I disagree with the title, but agree with some of the sentiment. I actually really enjoy Battlegrounds as an activity. They are essentially short strikes that provide a reasonable amount of loot for your efforts. I would make the following changes: 1. I would reduce the damage taken from enemies slightly overall, but greatly from Bosses and Threshers. My major complaint from a gameplay standpoint is that certain enemies instantly melt you. 2. Reduce cost of Umbral Engrams. I would change it to the following: Tier 1: 1 Hammer Charges and 0 Legendary Shards Tier 2: 2 Hammer Charge and 0 Legendary Shards Tier 3: 3 Hammer Charges and 5 Legendary Shards The current prices are very steep for Umbral Engram focusing. I find myself not focusing engrams mostly because it requires so many Legendary Shards. Why would I spend 5-10 Legendary Shards farming for a roll when I'll end up dismantling most of them for a net loss in Legendary Shards? 3. I would increase rewards from 3, 6, and 9 Battleground completions per week. To start, 9 should be a Pinnacle, but on top of that, each of these milestones should give Cabal Gold. I'm thinking 28 for 3 completions, then 14 for 6 and 9 completions. This would allow players who just want to play Battlegrounds each week to get additional Cabal Gold for rewards without needing to switch playlists in between as much.

            • They can scale up the difficulty. Make it a 6 man matchmade activity. Wipe mechanics. And add the seasonal exotics to the loot pool.

              • Personally, I think they need to reduce the number of days in the season pass. Like 100 days is a little much for a single activity.

                  I enjoy battlegrounds. Lots of enemies to shoot, builds and weapons to try with no real penalty or lose mechanic. What makes battlegrounds suffer is the associated hammer charge/Recaster redesign. Bungie screwed that up royally. I just don't get the "it's boring to repeat things" complaint. That's all games, unless you have found that one magical game that every time you turn it on the world is different?? Battlegrounds itself is essentially that Horde mode from Halo Reach of which the name escapes me right now. Amazing how nostalgia tricks the mind. P.S. Firefight was the horde mode from Halo Reach. It just came to me. Same thing as Battlegrounds.

                  • I used to think that, but then I started just using random load outs of guns that aren’t ever used for other end games. Using random load outs makes it fun, like I mean I discovered the wave splitter is awesome gaha

                    • I semi agree but do not find them boring... I just find them a little too lengthy, I think they would be far easier to take if they were a shorter activity.

                      • If Battlegrounds rewarded Pinnacle after 9 clears and if they had special weapons to get from them then people might be able to stomach them a bit more.

                        • These events are quite literally the most excruciatingly boring aspect of this version of Destiny. Overlong, repetitive tasks with the prospect of obtaining the same weapons time and time again. There is just no point whatsoever in completing the chore , because a chore is what it is. There is no uniqueness in its end result, no anticipation of obtaining lets say, an exclusive raid weapon not normally available through conventional means, a long desired catalyst. Back in the day the fabled Jellyhorn would drop from the most normal tasks, let's say Crucible, that provided impetus. Now it's just the endless conveyor belt. As for just one run on Presage per week, we'll that's plain stupid.

                        • Yes, unfortunately. Should be shorter (delete first third) and have pinnacle rewards. Also each run should give more hammer charges - 2 or 3 and double that with perk unlocked.

                        • I really like battlegrounds, I hate the loot system. 9 completions= pinnacle Every 3 runs should be enough charges for armor Stat drops and should drop above 60. I have never seen a company so afraid to give loot out. I could go on a long rant about loot , but I wont.

                          • Aside from the initial quest at reset I no longer engage with Battlefield. I literally been sitting on 84 cabal gold and 8 charges for 2 weeks. Complete waste of time

                              I start to get sleepy doing these. The rewards are very bad. The weapon pool is not very diverse. And why waste your time getting armor from the umbrals when the season pass armor is just way higher rolled. I really wish a kinetic shotgun or sniper was in there. Or at least let me curate a better Toil and Trouble (been years trying to get a good roll on one!). The banter of NPCs is literally the best part about them for me. Is Crow gonna bang Holliday?!? Get a room you two! (Sex tape, amiriiiight!)

                            • Run it only the required times to progress the story line, that makes a huge difference. Menagerie was the same way, started out fun, got boring fast, only thing that kept me going in there was the ability to control loot outcomes.

                                The seasonal weapons are questionable too. Linear Fusion? no thanks Sidearm? no thanks Bow? no thanks SMG? We got one last season and Ikelos is still a thing Sniper? Snipers nerfed into the ground and are horrible to use Rocket Launcher? There’s like 7 other options.
