Umbral Engrams went from great to trash
I love how Bungie brings back a well received idea just to turn it into crap.
When Umbral Engrams first came out they were pretty amazing for being able to target your rewards and get weapons with multiple perks in the final column. It was a reasonable "grind" to get the materials and you could usually keep up with the materials needed to focus all the engrams you got once all the decoder perks were unlocked. People really liked this since it was a great farming method for god roll weapons. Every engram had a chance to be something great that you actually wanted.
Fast forward to this season and the once great idea that was Umbral Engrams has been decimated into a shell of its former greatness. You simply cannot keep up with enough Hammer charges to focus the engrams. For every 1 focused at Tier 3 there there are probably 10-12 that I focus using shards. The focusing cost is so out of balance with the time it takes to get the charges its simply NOT worth it. They REALLY missed the mark on this one.

You can roll a GREAT SET of armor... then what. All the guns are mediocre. Before you say Code Duello is amazing... look up Royal Chase... Look at the perks you can get on it. AND it has tracking... it makes Code Duello useless. Submachine gun... is above average, but still not better than Ikelos... so. All the rewards are a waste of time. Leveling up the table gives you an item to dismantle. Leveling up the Recaster does the same. It's not even a carrot to chase... the rewards are trash... well, after you get that god tier 65 DIS-Focused armor set.

4 RepliesOh my god it's only week 4. If you were efficient enough with your HELM unlocks your hammer could get 3 hammer charges in one battlegrounds. But you people just rush to do everything the game offers. They talk about FOMO but this is the exact opposite where you do everything too soon and bore yourself out.

Not to mention how long it took to even get to the point you could get 2 hammer charges per run which is still shit because battlegrounds are now useless to anyone past the regular power grind and for the rest, they're boring because they're repetitive and most people never use anti-champion weapons.

I don't even care about them or this season ... Bungie has really lost their touch in all areas of this game ... I care so little about this game now; I still haven't finished the Beyond Light stuff lol

We expected their to be options like the last time but this system is limited to only this seasons weapons, which again are all bad. SMG: ike & death adder are better Sniper Rifle: succession & frozen orbit are better sidearm, bow, fusion rifle, linear fusion rifle: arc types that were bad before & still are now. Rocket launcher: blue berry weapon. So why are you upset about a system that cant even give you a decent weapon? Just use it to roll out armor and "worldly weapons" engrams for FILO.

1 ReplyMy biggest gripe with the new Umbral system is that the only way you can get hammer charges is by playing the battlegrounds. I don't want to play the battlegrounds. It gets boring really fast and isn't a pinnacle reward site so getting hammer charges is basically the only reason to run it. I can't even bring myself to go turn them in without focusing them either (since they only drop world loot) so most of the time my engram slots just end up full with umbrals that I just end up deleting whenever I need to make space for something. I know there are upgrades that give you more hammer charges per run through various means but right now this seasonal loop is just not engaging for me at all.

Not to mention it so Grindy. Imagine having to play 10 battlegrounds drops for two engrams at tier 3. that's ridiculous nobody wants to play that much for so little

There is a rank ? For how many and engrams you have focused but the percentage is so small you could decrypt a thousand and not finish

4 RepliesSomeone at Bungie is certainly living in a dream world. In this world they examine something that is popular and working well, then think that by adding more grind into the process, it will be well received. I can't see myself ever focusing at tier 3 after doing the triumph requirement, it's just not worth it.

I was excited when they said Umbral Engrams are coming back then immediately disappointed when we got this “new” version. I will never understand when a company wants to fix something that was never broken.

Yeah it’s complete ass at this point. I loved the way umbrals used to be. Had great weapons to choose from. Awesome perk combos. I mean it’s where I got my god-rolled ikelos smg and gnawing hunger that I use ALL THE TIME. Well, since they sunset my mountaintop and recluse. This new system tho? Nah man. I just decrypt them using legendary shards. Can’t be bothered using hammer charges as I think that activity is way too long - and boring - to grind out the required amount of charges.

I'm confused, how can a company that made d1 then polished it off to near perfection seen with age of triumph then release the garbage that was d2 base and only keep making the same mistakes from there on out while having the blueprint of what to do... and now there are doing the same things with older d2 stuff. Unbelievable

2 RepliesI've reached the point where I delete Umbral Engrams. I like Battlegrounds as Activity, but the Rewards -also from Focused Engrams- are not really exciting, imho.

they already sucked before imo, the only improvement this season is that I can dismantle them faster. It's just prime engrams that you have to fast travel somewhere other than the tower to get; they just seem like a more annoying prime engram.

2 RepliesMy problem is that I've already gotten multiple god rolls for every seasonal weapon this season without focusing hardly any engrams at all. So, I have to play 1 hour of the Battlegrounds in order to get five charges in order to get a 50/50 chance of what I want now? Better time vs. odds just by playing the game. Furthermore, there's still several weeks left before the hammer is fully upgraded. Remember, after a few weeks a lot of other weapons were added to the loot pool, like the Ikelos SMG, etc. Now it seems we have to spend significantly more time grinding to just be able to get a chance to get an extra perk.
