“The vanguard ally with the Fallen but draw the line with the cabal, what is Zavala thinking?”
I really enjoy how Saladin sees us, the tower, and especially the vanguard.
Saladin respects us a lot, and tells us his opinions and takes on current situations.
He doesn’t respect the current Vanguard, his Voicelines indicate that he thinks they are weak, absent minded, and to weak willed to truly bring humanity back from the brink.
He’s like the anti-hero of the Destiny universe. On our side, but sort-of not at the same time.

2 RepliesPeople who think the way Saladin does always either die first or end up powerless and alone due to hubris and “gUaRdIaN pRiDe” the darkness are consuming entire planets in a moments notice. We can’t fight it alone if that means allying ourselves with cabal, or fallen so be it. If Saladin and the iron lords couldn’t do anything against SIVA and ended up like canon fodder what makes him think he’d do any better against the paracausal nature of the darkness. The whole plan is to try and prevent the events of the dark future lore book from coming true not accelerate its inevitability. Thank god Zavala is the vanguard commander and not this close minded worthless edge lord.

Zavala has a point in an alternate timeline at least https://youtu.be/7MO5MzZSOMM

2 RepliesBut the Fallen aren’t telling humanity to submit and be ruled by an Empress though. Saladbar also suddenly has a problem with us allying with Rasputin to take out the almighty (a threat we had NO chance of dealing with alone) but didn’t bat an eye during warmind when we killed a worm god with rasputin’s help. Plus, Mithrax was willing to forge an alliance from the start when Caital has only been willing to offer us a seat after the entire empire got wiped by the darkness. The vanguard may be weak, but Saladass is a moron.

11 RepliesHuge fan of Saladin here. We basically owe the current state of humanity to the Iron Lords. These are the first risen to use their powers to fight for humanity instead of for themselves like the other warlords of the time. I think its really fun to hear this know nothing crow's opinion on things versus the folks who have been fighting for hundreds and hundreds of years against foes who have been hell bent on our genocide all this time. I'm not too keen on Bungie writing Saladin off as a do nothing nobody right now for not receiving any red war lore. As far as I know we don't know anything about what Saladin was doing at the time, and without his light, it's not like it would have been very easy to walk on over to the destroyed last city to regroup. I saw someone somewhere mention they were aware of a lore entry stating Saladin had been looking to utilize SIVA during the red war, meaning Saladin would have been deliberating the risk of trying to use the weapon that killed all his companions to combat the red legion which is pretty hardcore mental strain imo. (I haven't found that lore to verify yet so take that with a grain of salt please)

4 Repliesdid you hear that while doing a battlegrounds? also i like saladin too! he’s our grumpy boomer wolf dad, and even though i don’t agree with everything he says he’s still a great character who provides a little conflict in vanguard politics
-
Maybe zavala is thinking that joining the cabal empire and bowing to that rino looking biotch that runs it is a bridge too far.
-
Imagine you are a king and another ruler from another kingdom came to yours and told you let's make an alliance the proceeds to tell you to bow
-
He told me Zavala was a bald blue -blam!-
-
His reaction to us using darkness/stasis was telling. I got the impression had it been anyone else but us he would have ended them with maximum impunity. I'm loving him and Osiris on coms. So refreshing not just to hear new voices but to hear their personalities and character.

3 RepliesWhere was he during the Red War? Ope. LOL Destiny has some flaws for sure but I am loving the story more and more.
-
There's an interesting transmission from caiatl to zavala you can listen to in the helm if you havent already. She asks him to reconsider and says we will be free like their psions are now and we will be revered amongst the cabal
-
As time goes on I find myself liking Saladin less and Zavala more
-
2 RepliesNah, Zavala drew a line because caital told us to bow. Either than that an alliance would’ve been great
-
I genuinely think an alliance was considered, but as soon as caital said "bow," it was off the table. Submitting to the rule of another is not an alliance, it's more like a surrender if anything. I wouldve done the same thing. I'll fight side by side another, not under another. Plus, I dont think its so much an alliance with the fallen. I think it's more like a mutual agreement not to fight. We aren't really friends with the "house of light," moreso, they don't want to fight us, so we won't fight them. Until we do something with them such as taking refugees or supporting them (I don't think helping them escape europa counted), I feel like they should be considered more like an acquaintance. If you look at it this way, It could just show more how Saladin is out of touch with the current society of guardians and leadership, as we've already been seeing that with Saladin. The old days are no more, and Saladin seems like an arrogant old man stuck in the past.
-
He’s an old bore with a failing memory. ‘What did you do during the Red War?’ Any war...he only remembers Twilight Gap!

12 RepliesSaladin shows the fundamental problem with humanity and immortality. You also saw the same problem with the Elves in Middle-earth. Circumstances change, but these beings stay stuck in their ways. Zavala is slow to change....but Saladin is even slower and more reluctant. So its falling on the "younger" Guardians, and the older ones who are less rigid in their ways of thinking to adapt to the changing nature of the conflict in which they find themselves. IOW, the Vanguard isn't weak. They just don't see the entire Universe as a nail.....because their favorite tool happens to be a HAMMER. Saladin was a necessary evil....but his time as an effective leader is past. He was ncessary to tame the chaos of the Dark Age....forge the Iron Lords...and turn Lightbearers from Warlords into Guardians. But he still sees the world in the same way that he did when he was trying to restore order to chaos. As for Zavala. His decision with the Caital is one of the best leadership decisions he's made in a long time (Osiris). Someone who would betray her own father can't be trusted. Anyone who comes begging for your help, but then demands your submission is foolish....and can't be trusted. She would turn on us the moment the Hive had been dealt with....and we don't really need their help to deal with the Hive. So why would we bow to someone who shows up on our doorstep begging for food??

I like how they've characterized him this season and his dialogues with Crow and Osiris are really fun to listen. Personally I'm a bit annoyed with him due to the hard militaristic ideology he had, but can't blame him for it, it's how he had to live. I can understand how he feels about the Eliksni, since he's fought them many times. He seems to respect the cabal a bit more, since they're honor bound. The lore says he's in disagreement with Zavala since Zavala wants to maintain a defensive position and let Caiatl eventually give in and surrender since a proper alliance could be beneficial. Saladin however feels we should taken them out in an all out attack. P.S - I wanna see how he reacts when Exo Rasputin shows up with Anna.

28 RepliesWhere was Saladin during the red war? Hiding in the iron temple. He's a pu$$y. Next.
-
1 ReplyHave you seen the vendors that are in front of him? There are standing in front of tables with gun parts and are shaking like crazy because of how cold it is lol
-
He is probably talking about variks / the house of light
-
5 RepliesI can understand his distaste for the fallen, he's been fighting them for decades and he's seen the depths of their depravity I'm not saying it's okay to hold that grudge against all Eliksni, but I understand why he has it
-
5 Repliessaladin sucks, shaxx is the daddy.

Edited by RufousTeacher29: 3/2/2021 2:03:24 AMThe only thing Saladin's good for is sticking his name in salad bars
Haha you can't change my mind, that's the fun of the internet
Saladin is the one character they bothered to update his lines for every Season.
-
3 RepliesCryin' Saladin is an absolute loser. One of the worst people in the game, believe me, and I know people. The greatest people, like myself.

Even Ikora thinks the Vanguard may not last. If i remember correctly, she told her Hidden that if they think the Vanguard aren't capable of leading they should overthrow them.
