Disclaimer: I ain't a big lore guy, only read and listen what I can find, so bare with me
SO I recently got back into playing Destiny (quit after hearing about all the sunsetting stuff, thank you Bungie for listening) and I've recently gotten really fascinated with this Witch Queen stuff.
This morning, me and some buddies were throwing out fun ideas of what potentially the Witch Queen will bring to the game (location, weapons, armour, story, etc).
This led to a massive spiral of me reflecting back on the various story beats throughout the rest of the game that hinted and involve Savathun already.
Eventually, I thought up of this REALLY far fetched theory that probably makes no sense but it'd be fun to share nevertheless.
Basically, the name of the dlc is a LIE. The Witch Queen, Savathun, as it clearly hints too, believed to be the main antagonist is in fact NOT the main antagonist. Rather, it is the Worm Gods that are the main antagonist.
My evidence is simple. Savathun is infecting us with her song, key players in Vanguard command specifically (Shaxx, Eris, Saint, Drifter, our Guardian and now Crow). I believe this song can potentially corrupt us, turn us against one another, much how the Crown of Sorrows infected Gahlran.
HOWEVER, Savathun will instead use this as a form of blackmail. She'll find a way to contact our Guardian (either through whispers, kidnapping us or stealing Shaxx as one of my friend's suggested).
The Vanguard will ultimately be forced to speak with her, as she threatens to kill all of us with said song, UNLESS we help her.
Throughout Season 12 and even prior, there were hints that Savathun was having a Cold War with Xivu Arath, both competing to build an army of some kind, the control of the Taken seemingly fluctuates between the two as they compete.
I believe in Witch Queen, through the blackmail of the song/curse, Savathun will order the Vanguard to go after and kill ALL of the Worm Gods (Xivu Arath specifically). In return, she'll lift the curse.
Obviously this isn't guaranteed, as everything is only half true when it comes to Savathun, but we comply having no other choice. So we hunt down, kill, slaughter and destroy the Worm Gods, their followers, etc. During all this, Savathun will be giving us some intel and lore bits as well as fun facts about the Hive. More importantly however, she'll teach us Hive Magic, specifically poison (believed to be the next darkness element).
And while all that is going on, Eris and Ikora will be working towards finding a different way of breaking the curse.
Ultimately, in a final cutscene shown after the completion of the story or raid, we get to see the Vanguard and Savathun dramatically go face to face as they prepare to kill her if she attempts to corrupt us anyway. However, in a dramatic twist, she actually upholds her word and lifts the curse, then lets everyone go back to what they were doing while she festers in her new power, transferred to her after killing all the Worm Gods. She lets are Guardian come back to learn more skills about Poison, giving us new bounties, etc, while secretly influencing us to join her side, etc.
Ultimately, she becomes a semi-ally, similar to Spider. Not really a good ally, but someone who will help out when the interest benefits them.
Now this is the end of the Witch Queen theory.
However I'll throw one more smaller theory that continues this.
I heard a while back a really interesting theory (can't find the forum where it was told) but basically in Lightfall, we guardians will fail and the traveller will lose yet again. It'll flee, we'll follow, many will die, but because of our actions in the previous DLCs and seasons, the Fallen, Cabal and Hive will be with us, some as temporary allies simply trying to survive as the Darkness consumes everything.
We'll eventually get to a new solar system where the traveller sits, with a ton of new planets, potentially new species, but more importantly–the Vex.
The traveller will ultimately find rest in the Vex home system, where they will be doing Vex things.
We'll setup camp alongside it, the Fallen also with us, but the Cabal and Hive go off to do whatever they want. The Vex attempt to kick us out, but slowly we'll gain control over the system to use the Vex technology against the Darkness as it then arrives (to which their species will finally be revealed).
This is all very far, far fetched and I am in no way a master of Destiny lore, but its an interesting idea I thought of and kinda wish would happen given having Fallen, Cabal and Hive as allies, if only temporarily, would be super badass.
Lemmino what y'all think and share this discussion with your buds. Have a goodday y'all.

1 ReplyOkay theory, not much more to add then that. Savathun wants to ascend beyond the scope of light and dark, so I would not be surprised in the slightest if she outlasts both the traveller and pyramids, to be a key player in the next saga after this current one ends in the expansion after lightfall.

Eh, I lost interested when you implied that xivu Arath was also one of the worm gods lol
