This may be a niche problem to people who live rurally, but anyway.
I have just been handed an access restriction (a ban) for D2 for 'consistently unstable' internet connection.
This is not true. My internet is slow, slow BUT stable.
I live rurally, and those who do know that the infrastructure of internet is...well...it is what it is. There is nothing that can be done about it.
I understand that playing against someone time-to-time who you feel is a little laggy is frustrating, but remember that they are being negatively impacted too. And considering that D2 is not a competitive game, and that even the height of pvp remains very casual (no rankings, competitions, money etc), in the end there is absolutely nothing to be lost from you feeling that the occasional casual has a slow internet connection.
Maybe your headshot didn't register?
Maybe theirs didn't?
It really isn't the end of the world is it?
Me and my friends have had some questionable sh*t happen in the crucible to us. It doesn't mean we would want anyone playing fairly to just get given the boot.
This is especially the case for who we 'matchmake' (a very loose term on D2) against: predominantly Asian clans on the other side of the world.
We all know that playing against someone on the other side of the world on D2 is like a mild acid trip, but this comes with the territory of the game. It is what it is. I don't blame them. I don't complain. The matchmaking may be awful, but I still enjoy the game.
We've dc'ed from ONE game this season. Again, our connections are slow but stable.
Maybe we are in the minority here, but surely simply banning what they consider to be 'weak' internet users is just plain anti-consumer.
It's as toxic as it is outrageous - and deserves a significant disclaimer.
At the end of the day the casuals need to be nurtured, not alienated. If the game continues to haemorrhage casuals then it's doomed. And now it seems as if our cluster of players is done.
Just my thoughts.

2 RepliesThanks for posting this. You made a lot of really good points. Like you, I match against a lot of Asian players in both quickplay and gambit. I'm in the US so yeah sometimes they seem laggy to me and for all I know I am a bit laggy for them. It happens. It's just a game. Not everyone is lucky or rich enough to have access to great internet connection all the time. And even if you do sometimes we still get connection issues. What really bothers me about what Bunige is doing here, is their over zealous targeting of poor and rural players who get punished for their internet connection as if they where cheaters or hackers. Now, I know it's easy to tell these players to simply refrain from playing any gambit or crucible but we gotta remember how many exotics and quest steps are also tied to playing these activities. Honestly if they are going to have to miss that much content, they might not as well even play the game. Maybe this is exactly what Bungie wants, I don't know, if this is the case then please Bungie, just make it a bit more clear to perspective players that they really should not bother investing time and certainty not their money into your game if they don't have access to the type of internet connection you deem appropriate.

1 ReplyJust ban Bungie.

Edited by Pappa Barrett: 2/22/2021 8:39:20 PMI couldn't think of a more fitting response for this topic. 'This post was met with Ninja Justice for breaking the Code of Conduct'. That's it. Good job. We've all learned absolutely nothing.

3 RepliesVery well put. I tried saying similar things on the restriction issue a while ago, but I soon realized the only attention I'd get was from forum users on their usual high horses, and certainly not Bungie's. After 3000 hours of playing, I had enough of Bungie's arrogance. I have stopped playing and I'm not going back.

1 ReplyAlso, just checked your stats. You are a god my dude. Stay strong. We will fix this.

1 ReplyHey, I am going to repost your forum post. I am passionate about this game and I want this issue to be resolved as quickly as possible for all of us. You make all the points I wanted to touch on and I think if I post it enough it might eventually catch the attention of someone less privileged and pompous. I will not do so without your permission. Just give me the word.

1 ReplyI really think Bungie need to provide better info about the in game network performance. All this speculation about “maybe it’s this or that” to do with your set up is insane. Why not just have a tab that shows the in-game lag, jitter, loss etc. ...I wonder if they might not be keen to do this bc it would highlight issues at their end.

14 RepliesIf you post your network statistics (tested up/down speeds, packet loss/latency/jitter, etc.) the community may be able to offer advice. However, you should review the Network Troubleshooting Guide yourself for configuration changes that you can explore to minimize problems with your network connection that are negatively impacting the competitive experience for other players.
