Power leveling every season needs to slow way down im Fatigued Bungie

First let me say i am not a super hard core sweaty player and neither am a causal im somewhere in between i put the work in when i can balancing out a 6 year old and family in between work and Destiny 2 but honestly this is just really tiring me. Every 3 months have to grind the same shit all over again i literally just got to a high enough level to do master night fall last season then literally a week later new season and power level. I think every 6 months increase the level would be good but damn this is really feeling like a chore I'm not having fun.

    • This is a game that, while fun with friends and serves as a great passage of time, it’s a FOMO fest that can wreck your home life and free time. If you’ve got a family or significant other, put time into them and let this game go for a while. I limit myself to only a few hours a day once a week or so. Sure, I miss out on the exotics and timegated missions, and I’m terrible at the raids, but whatever. A game creator that actually cares about its fan base would make everything achievable and worth while at any time and not create a stressful, FOMO based empire. One thing I had to remember is that nothing achievable in this game will have any real life-improving effect. It’s a game and has no true worth or value. Best of luck to you!!

    • I'd say Seasonal content jumps 20 LL's, and Expansions 50. This would also help sunsetting a bit by slightly increasing gear's shelf life (though I have entirely different thoughts on that subject).

But what would the streamers and hardcore have to do in those 5 1/2 months they don't have to power level? All joking aside, I totally agree. Unless bungie makes some changes on this power level grind combined with sunsetting, it's just going to be a repetive, grindy slog every season with nothing to look forward to but a mission and a handful of weapons. It's just too frequent.

    • If you're not playing 8 hours a day, you're playing it wrong. This game has always been just a long grind until the next update where they move the goalposts further...

    • This is close to something i've been saying for years. i fully want with all my heart, and believe it would be enormously healthy for the game, to COMPLETELY DISCARD POWER LEVEL. They have systems in place that already make power lvl irrelevant, it is just a way to extend the grind. Bungie get to do as little work as possible while making sure we have to play as much as possible. It's why virtually ALL THE CONTENT coming out lately is reused assets. To be fair, i LOVED going back to the moon, it was my favorite destination in d1. But bungie needs to COMPLETELY rethink their philosophy on destiny as a franchise. Toss power level out the window - it has for all practical intents and purposes no real benefit to the players and exists only to handicap us and make sure we don't blow through content instantly- that is a justifiable fear/frustration bungie has to deal with. It is also the mechanism through which sunsetting is carried out. What needs to happen is the TOTAL AND COMPLETE REMOVAL OF POWER LEVEL. Instead, let encounters have difficulty settings and modifiers... if only they had systems like that already... oh well Power level grinding is the single biggest source of fatigue players i have spoken about this with have complained of (tied with sunsetting). It sucks a lot of fun out of the game. If bungie wants us to really grind and dig into the game, bring back collectibles like the dead ghosts. Give us strike specific loot (man i loved my hunter cloak from the psion flayers in d1). Now, to be fair, i dropped this game when they announced sunsetting. So some of these changes my already be implemented. As for the effect it would have on sunsetting, if they are truly dead set on having our weapons expire (so that we have to regrind for them at a later date - yay for more recycled content🙄), they could use the system that is, once again, already in the game. The seasonal artifact. When we hit a specific rank, allow us to slot a mod that improves the attack power of weapons and gives us a flat % value of damage reduction on our armor. And make it so that when gear is reissued, we can use our old version and infuse it with the new one to bring it into the new season. Or make it so when a new version of (for example) austringer comes out, we can break it down and get a "rekindled austringer core"!or something and it will transform our old weapon into one from the new season, compatible with the mods from our artifact, and keep our hard earned rolls we grinded for. Ok. I've ranted enough. If you're still with me, thanks for reading!!

      • I haven't been able to do a single GM NF simply bc of this. I don't have every day all day and hoarding bounties is some stupid ass shit that is somehow still allowed.

      • Agree. I used to be able to level up three characters, now I can only play one. I miss my hunter and titan. It's too aggressive now. Especially when you can do an activity because your light level is high enough, then all of a sudden your light level is below that activity. That's a giant pain. Grinding back up so you can do the same activity were just doing the day before. This happened to me with Harbinger.

        • My new opinion would be every season no new light levels to grind but instead artifact levels should play more of a role.

        • I agree. Power grind should happen once with a release of an expansion. Bungie thinks adding plus 50 levels every three months is content. It is not.

          • Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, I bought the pass when beyond light launched but I think I’m going to go free to play once the pass runs out. Maybe buy specific seasons if there’s a raid I want to access.

            • Same issue here, when I finish to level up the character to play new content the season ends and I have to start all over again. Bought all seasons last year to play just 2 and this year I have made the same mistake, I am ready to give up again. I have paid for all the content (since Destiny 1; yes, I know I should realize earlier) just to play the same content every season. I think that just one level up per DLC is enough.

I liked the season of undying to season of dawn increase. It only increased the pinnacle cap by 10 levels and the old 10 levels of the pinnacle cap just became part of the soft cap. Edit: also since bungie isn’t doing away with sunsetting bungie could easily adjust the power cap numbers to work with sunsetting. I say easily but I wouldn’t know how difficult it would be.

            • I was just thinking about this ungodly fatigue of grinding over and over and over again and I actually remembered something. It's something from Destiny 1 that doesn't get talked about a lot, if at all, when it comes to Destiny 2. I believe that it's because, like myself, players forgot it was even a thing. How many of you remember that you could give your lesser-played characters unusable armor from your main character to infuse? Yeah. So, if I had my Titan at max Light then I could give my Hunter and Warlock my extra armor to infuse into their own armor. Know what this did? It made it so I really only had to do the grind on one character but could bring-up my other characters without quite as much work involved. This means that you could give your attention to one character and still be able to play all characters and NOT have to do every single tedious repetitive crap over and over again on every character. This mitigated the fatigue and burnout because I could grind my main and play my other two for funsies. This needs to come back ASAP. A vast majority of players are getting this fatigued feeling and I'm willing to bet it's because they want to play as any of their characters whenever they want but just can't bring themselves to do every single task on each character. Look at this season, for instance. In order to unlock the Hammer and the HELM on your first character, you have twelve tedious things to push through. Gotta get your first Umbral to drop. Run two Battlegrounds. Run a third Battlegrounds but from the Playlist. Between all that are the "fast travels" and going to orbit and running back and forth and loading and dialogue that not all can be skipped on and so on. That's a lot to grind through on just one character... But you have to do the ENTIRE SERIES of steps for EVERY CHARACTER in order for all of them to benefit from Umbrals and the HELM. Why?! Couple that tediousness with the "power" grind and horrible RNG and repeating the same things between Bounties, Strikes, Crucible and now Battlegrounds on THREE characters every week. How is that fun? How in the hell is doing that....ALL of that....to make progress on all of our characters fun? Destiny 1 let you grind one character and bring-up the other characters at your pace. Grind one as your main because everybody has their main they like to play then give the other two characters extra gear to bring them up to parity so you can play around with them at your leisure. Before any die-hard players chime-in about how "tHat MaKEs tHInGs tOo EaSy." You do know that it would be optional, right? Most of us would use this so we can play the game more for fun and less like a second job. A second job that's just a series of chores to check-off our list. But you don't have to. Us having that option and using it doesn't take ANYTHING away from you as you can simply choose not to use it.

                • Now I know I’m going to get flamed for this but it’s the truth. Bungie made a grind each season so hardcores and casuals have something to do. 99 percent of the game is accessible for you with 1250. So don’t -blam!-. You have something to do the whole season. And why does it matter that you aren’t hitting the cap first or second week? Like who the -blam!- cares? Why do you care? If it’s bothering you that much either play more or do something else.

                  • It needs a middle ground. People complained when it was only a 10 increase as they felt it was too short, but now 50 is too much. Maybe 30? And just ditch the powerful/pinnacle system, its a garbage idea that doesn't even achieve the thing it was implemented for.

                  • It is the one big turn off to playing this game. To the average player it takes at least 3 weeks to get to cap. Then another few weeks to reach that pinnacle cap. I am fully aware that this is the Hamster Wheel that keeps people hooked but it feels unnecessary. The game would be so much more enjoyable if it didn’t have this ludicrous constant gear leveling. It feels as if the time I poured into last season is not honored at all. Needless to say I’m in no hurry to reach cap this season since the only reason for me to achieve it is the GM Nightfall.

                    • This is what is killing the game for myself and my husband. We barely can play at high enough levels to enjoy any activities fir very long. So tired of wearing garbage armor pieces to power level only to do it again in a few shirt weeks. We need more focus on content and less on how to implement more grind time. I'm just biding my time for some of the new AAA games that will be coming out. Over six years of playing destiny and I am more burnt out in the last year than I ever was during D1 up to forsaken.

I was a hardcore grinder last season and the season before that I came back hoping things would change or pick up but I honestly agree with you. The grind is too time gated, More you put in the more you get out I understand that but the sheer discrepancy between how far casuals get to hardcore is shocking. I barely played last week ( almost forcing myself to play because it’s my favourite game ) and by the end of the first week I barely hit rank 20 and my friends sit “casually” at 53 or 54. I understand catering to 2 audiences but MAN! The gap is HUGE!

                    • Every weekend Xur comes in with Exotics for sale. I got one exotic weapon for each of my characters. I'll have to wait until next weekend to get an exotic armor piece for my warlock. Exotics have no power cap. Everybody has Riskrunner I imagine. It's now part of the first questline. Sure you're only allowed one exotic weapon and one exotic armor piece. But hey! You need only one right?
