Shade Binder Aspects have only one utility on the shattering mechanic:
- Iceflare Bolts: Shattering a frozen target spawns seekers that track and freeze other nearby targets.
You have just released Bleak Watcher this season.
- Bleak Watcher: Press and Hold the grenade button to convert your grenade into a Stasis Turret that fires slowing projectiles at nearby targets
And we know about Frostpulse.
- Frostpulse: Casting your Rift generates a shortwave that freezes nearby combatants.
Now, out of these aspects you have only one clear option that has perfect synergy with Frostpulse and Iceflare Bolts.
- Vesper of Radius: Rifts release an Arc Shockwave when cast. Rift Energy recharges faster when you are surrounded by enemies.
The idea is to cast your rift, freeze targets, allow Vesper of Radius Arcwave to shatter the frozen targets and Iceflare Bolts seek out the next targets for freeze.
Works like a charm.
This Bleak Watcher is a GRENADE ABILITY.
It prioritized single targets that I'm not aiming at and does what I assume are stacks of slow leading up to a freeze on max stack to a possible shatter.
Problem is, we have no grenade based armor exotics to give Bleak Watcher any real buffs to benefit using it.
*If* Whisper of Shards allowed you to Shatter a FROZEN TARGET then grenade regeneration would be fine for Bleak Watcher due to the fact I can Penumbra Blast a Target and shatter it but of course that would be a little too strong with Monte Carlo or Traveler's Chosen.
Bungie, we have no grenade regeneration for Bleak Watcher and no Armor Exotics for it to receive benefit.
I want synergy. If I can keep Penumbra Blasting Targets for Shatter buffs then I could get that grenade energy back for Bleak Watcher and put maybe Claws of Ahamkara but you took away the grenade regeneration . . .
Once you activate Bleak Watcher, sure your getting fragment buffs (No, I don't have all of them) but what do you get for grenade energy to warrant using Bleak Watcher?
Again, Whisper of Shards only boosts grenade recharge rate when shattering CRYSTALS.
I HAVE NO DAMN GLACIER GRENADES BECAUSE IM USING THE TURRETS . . .
So what could have been the option here before the Nerf?

You expect me to use Nezarec's Sin, Eye of another World or Apotheosis Veil all day for A GRENADE THAT STACKS SLOWS???
Besides, I tried using Abyssal Extractors and it's Horrible. Traveler's is way better.
Yeah, it might sound like I'm crying a little but we have no grenade exotics and Traveler's Chosen beats everything in cooldown so my point is this . . .
TL:DR: REVERT THE GRENADE ENERGY GAINS ON ICEFLARE BOLTS SO WE CAN HAVE SOME DAMN SYNERGY TO WARRENT USING BLEAK WATCHER OR MAKING GLACIERS FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHEN USING FROSTPULSE VESPER.
Not everything should need a damn exotic to be good.
Somethings are better left alone . . .

EDIT 1: A Forum Guardian Recommends Verity's Brow for Grenade Energy gains. I never considered it and will test it out today and see how it goes. I still want the Iceflare Bolts Pre-Nerf back though.
EDIT 2: So I tested it out and it's alright. It wasn't anything special when I tried to do it. I got full grenade energy back just about when the turret died so I felt it was "MEH". I only put out one turret at a time.
I saw Ehroar's Video on Bleak Watcher build and he's running Verity's Brow with 100 Discipline, CWL Grenade mods and a Grenade Launcher.
I saw him put down like 3 or 4 Turrets so that was pretty cool. He was running the fragment that gives grenade energy when you take damage so he's got it all figured out but these are things I don't have. Bleak Watchers are viable but you to have the stats, the fragment, an exotic and the mods to make it crazy. Just allow Iceflare bolts to give grenade energy for those like my self who don't have a set up like that. ._.

6 RepliesIceflare bolts grenade regen needs to be reverted absolutely. There wasn't any reason to remove it, Shadebinder was FINE before this patch. It wasn't breaking anything and it wasn't a Must in neither PvE or PvP. It was actually competing with the other light subclasses for PvE as it should be. So why nerf it? They seems to like to nerf warlock at this point

Whisper of torment gives you around 5% grenade CD back every time you take any damage with 1-ish second delay between procs. It made a 1:11 grenade CD into a 21 second one on a quick test. Very strong passive CD refund. The vanilla void arm mods make your melee hits and grenade hits refund around 15-20% rift CD on hit (hit = damage done). Penumbral blast, duskfield and coldsnap grenades and [u]the aspect turret hits[/u] all proc the rift refund effect from these mods since they do small damage. [b]Bomber mods on class item so rifts refund grenade CD.[/b] Whisper of refraction so frozen + slowed kills refund rift CD. Bombers again. Unlimited rifts upon add clear when combined with all the shadebinder freezing and iceflare bolts. There was also a solar charged with light mod that refunds grenades upon using a grenade when charged with light. Can enchance the build with that. Gain charges with charge harvester so cumulative kills give charges, and the other 1 energy mod that gives charges upon finishers. Or alternatively the 3 energy mod that gives charges on orb pick ups. Stacks on stacks so you get more charges each time. If you go the finisher route, there's also a class item mod that gives grenade CD on a finisher in exchange for super energy which isnt a bad tradeoff considering shadebinder's super is basically weak add clear. Combine everything with whisper of hedrons for literally a perpetual 25% damage buff with all the freezing. Claws of ahamkara synergizes really well since it's an extra melee ability. Combine with the void mods. Monte Carlo's a bit slept on with the above synergies. An exotic slot yes, but monte gives you unlimited melees and penumbral blast kills trigger 5x markov chain which is around [b]65% damage buff[/b] and it stacks with whisper of hedrons. It's an add clear machine with the almost maxed out reload speed and with both buffs active does as much DPS as normal purple fusion rifles. Which are special ammo weapons. I've done the math on that. Also the penumbral blast base damage reduction is a bug and it's getting fixed, bungo confirmed that one. I've used basically nothing but variations of this build in pve and pvp last couple weeks and it's really fun with extreme damage potential with monte's add clear and whisper of hedrons 25% extra damage being applied all the time to your special and heavy slots as well. And you get unlimited health regen from rifts being available on-demand as well. (In pvp you are just cancer. Freeze everything and then 1-tap body all day long with an 72 rpm sniper with hedrons / empowering rifts / high energy fire) Good non-exotic DPS guns to pair with monte are vorpal autoloading slugs and vorpal triple tap extra mag snipers on energy slot and for heavy either a spike and/or full court + loader perk grenade launcher or the tried and tested DPS swords. Stat split's around t8 recovery, t8 discipline + t8 strength. Also whisper of fissures and shards arent worth it on a shadebinder in my opinion. The slots can be used for better synergies on other fragments especially since frozen targets do not count as shards. But I do find the general current opinion that shadebinder's bad, a bit humorous.

1 ReplyI'm a warlock main and have resigned myself to the fact that bungie treats warlocks like second class citizens. Hence are stasis class getting gutted after ten measley days. Yet hunters are shatter diving everything and throwing ice tornadoes and slowing people with dodges and titans sub zero sliding everywhere and becoming a living ice juggernaut while warlocks have on ability only for pvp and it's sub par at that (penumbral blast).

The potential in 6v6 to chain freeze multiple targets is still amazing. It just requires you to eliminate the frozen targets quickly and its a good thing 90% of game modes are team based. Cluster of enemies in the room over. Who cares. Throw a coldsnap and watch them scatter and jump around to avoid the freeze. When they come down there is still a chance they'll get frozen. Eyes of Another World is a thing and adds three tiers to all ability recharge. Mods can further supplement this by increasing just how much stasis you can spam. The super is heavily undervalued for some reason too. Its no Behemoth, but I've gotten plenty of free multi kills with it. All of this applies to PvE as well. Basically what I'm saying is that people reaching to call Warlocks underpowered or weak simply because lol Titan/Hunter stasis is better isn't an intelligent argument. Maybe certain aspects were overnerfed. The tuning could have been a little better, but that is a different argument than OMG Bungie hates Warlocks we're so weak. TLDR: I'm an average nerd crutching on stasis not seeing any drasitic underperformance between the three new subclasses.

Bungie hates Warlocks. Warlocks have been relegated to a PVE support class. No other class has been hit by two mega nerfs and has a new exotic chest armor that only works in half the game.

2 RepliesWarlock Stasis has been massacred... Melee attack doesnt even kill a dreg... I get sad watching hunter melee killing four dregs at once... Hopefully they fix stasis soon. Crucible balance always ruins the fun...

They didn't k ow about it until the POS ehroar said it in his video. He's the sole reason warlocks get nerfed all the time. The streamers are our worst enemies.

If you have no reason to invest, you have no reason to farm gear. If you have no reason to farm, you have no reason to play the game.

5 RepliesI agree that the iceflare bolts nerf was a little heavy handed on top of the changes to shattering enemies. I’ve been avoiding using Shadebinder in PvP this week and seeing decent success with all three trees of Stormcaller and Top and Middle tree voidwalker. Try one of the new fragments for PvE. Generates Grenade energy when you take damage. It’s fairly generous but I don’t think it works in PvP. If you’re looking for a good pairing for an exotic, try Verity’s Brow and an energy primary. The damage boost isn’t super noticeable, but when paired with some simple builds this ability can dominate in PvE. For PvP it can be useful but not crazy. Maybe try out Nova Warp. They made it so you don’t instantly die if you whiff a HHSN, and can put in a surprising amount of work in quickplay. Haven’t tried trials yet.

Didn’t read most of this, but the Iceflare Bolts nerf was maybe slightly overdone. In PvE it really didn’t make a difference, but it rarely comes into play at all in PvP now.

I get my grenade in like around 30 seconds or so. Best i could speed the regen up.

It’s amazing IF you have the right mods (Blast Radius and Firepower) but even without the right mods it’s better then Frostpulse. It turns your grenade into a 25 second turret that can freeze WAY more targets then any grenade and you keep the damage buff of Hedrons up for the full duration. So even just using Demolitionist/Wellspring you should have at least one turret up at all times.
