Decrypting the Darkness Quest Bug
I am on my second character and the quest states I need to decrypt an umbral engram. Do I need to farm activities for an umbral engram??? On my first character I had an engram
in the recaster to decode,

So i have having troubles with this for about a month i had just come back to D2 because everything else was feeling stale. Decoded prolly 300 umbral engrams before this fix worked for me. What triggered mine to become unbugged was by doing the Astral Alignment quest, bu that i mean the 6 man event on the right side of the Dreaming City Destination map, complete that and it brought me to the same step all the other quests were stuck at but this quest was the only one that gave me a Fragile Prismatic lens to then put in the Recaster and thus unbugged all 3 quests hop it works for all of you srry if it doesnt

They really need to fix the decrypting the darkness decoder step glitch because fans can’t progress through the season without it, it’s frustrating and makes people not want to play.. it’s completely broken no matter what and they are going to lose real fans if they don’t fix it soon!

4 Replieswell, this still is not fixed. + i think since the update for witch queen it has broken entirely. i got enough ubrals to do the workarounds stated above, but nothing triggers a new step. it still says: "decriping the Darkness" completed (unchecked). wartable does nothing. its stuck for both my alts.

1 ReplySame issue. I've tried with another engram, from a strike, and it still didn't work. Any suggestions on the fix, other than continuing to farm engrams and trying again?

Edit:- After some trial and errors later....this method helped me get rid of the quest lockout. To solve the issue, please, do the followings: 1) Acquire at least 2 Umbral Engram from any source 2) Decode 1 Umbral Engram raw. U need not focus it in Prismatic Racaster 3) Carry on with the quest to the War Table

1 ReplyYes same thing happened to me. Worked for my first, but now my second is stuck. I received no umbrella engram from the quest. I did find one in the world, but it still won’t let me focus it and I’m locked out of the general focuser screen because it says I haven’t completed the quest step. Strangely, it did work on my third character!

I encountered this. I thought it was a bug. It was not. 1.) Your second character is not given an Umbral Engram. You must get it to drop on the character that you think is bugged. 2.) Umbral Engrams are character locked, similar to Prime Engrams. For instance, you can have 2 on your Hunter, but 0 on your Titan/Warlock. Make sure you have one on the exact character that you think is bugged.

5 RepliesFor those of us coming late into this issue, please take note of the Known Issues thread at the top of this forum. Bungie’s official answer to this issue is that only the first character we play gets a free Umbral Engram; for the rest of our characters, we must leave the HELM, acquire a world-drop Umbral Engram, return to the HELM, and decode it to progress the quest-line. I have found the Umbral Engrams drop pretty often in Playlist Battleground and Strike activities.

Same thing happened with my second character. I even got an umbral engram in a strike and it didn’t register so I can get pass the quest to continue everything in the H.E.L.M. up. So frustrating!

Having the same issue with Decrypting the Darkness quest. I did not get an umbral engram when doing the quest with my second character. I pulled an Umbral from my season pass but that did not trigger the quest and I cannot focus it with the fragile lens. So I'm stuck on Decrypting the Darkness unable to progress the Challenger's Proving quest to do the seasonal content and cannot earn Cabal Gold on my second character.

11 RepliesANSWER: I’ve had the same issue on my second character! I just strikes or did in-game stuff and eventually I got one and used that toward the quest. Hope this helps.

This is bullcrap Bungie fix this crap you're putting us behind in our season of The Chosen I bought the damn pass the freaking season pass and now you screwing us it's time gated dumba** this is bullcrap this needs to be fixed or refund everybody their money back that bought the season pass and this needed to be fixed as soon as it happened I've been sitting here 8 hours running every Quest to get caught up to find out that there's a bug 8 hours wasted
